Peace, Love and Understanding is my favorite song of all time. It is written by his good friend Nick Lowe, which Elvis acknowledges. When in a concert with Nick he says "This is a song that Nick wrote and I stole."
Probably one of the best love songs ever written & he sings it with such great emotion. I always tear up hearing that one. J & Amber need to watch Notting Hill too. Great movie.
Elvis is a genius. Over his whole career he's probably done every genre known to man. After all his great albums, I still have a soft spot for this one. An absolute classic. I agree that Watching the Detectives should be next just keep riding that Elvis train!
One of the very best Elvis Costello tunes, such a classic. Backyard playlist all day. You should check out Everyday I Write The Book next. It's more of an old old school R&B sound, but also backyard playlist worthy.
@@DawnSuttonfabfour I just listened to Brinsley's Schwarz original of Peace, Love...for the first time. I just like how Elvis rocked it harder. I'm a fan of Nick Lowe too, hopefully they'll get back to him.
Elvis is married to Diana Krall, a Canadian jazz pianist and singer. She is incredible. In 2002, she released "Live in Paris." I know you don't react to much jazz but her opening song, "I Love Being Here with You" is definitely worth a listen.
Two suggestions for your next Elvis Costello song: “Watching the Detectives” and “Veronica”, that second one was co-written by Paul McCartney (one of a group of songs the two have co-written, McCartney’s “My Brave Face” is another one worthy of a reaction, too).
You're right, he's a musical genius. There are many great suggestions here, my picks are "Everyday I Write The Book," "Watching the Detectives" or "(What's So Funny About) Peace Love and Understanding." You have a fun journey ahead as you check out more.
Oh boy, Elvis' catalogue is absolutely huge. Try 'Every Day I Write the Book', 'She', 'Watching the Detectives', 'Oliver's Army', 'Shipbuilding', 'God give me strength' and anything from his album with Burt Bacharach.
This song is actually about his desire to kill her out of jealousy. He “can’t stand to see her this way “. He’s going to “ put out the lights” and his “aim is true “ . When I first heard this song , many moons ago, I thought it was a love song as well. It was in an interview that I heard him talk about the darker side of love.
I don't think 'my aim is true' has to do with a gun..except maybe as a double entendre ... but he certainly is not the friend he is trying to pretend to be
Elvis is a musical genius! So many styles, the wordplay in his lyrics. Check out Watching The Detectives, Every Day I Write the Book, and Shipbuilding (gorgeous horns). Always grateful to my freshman roommate for introducing me to Elvis back in '78 -- one of my top fave artists of all time.
Elvis is King! Every song on My Aim is True is gold. But he's given us so many great songs and musical styles. Next should most definitely be WATCHING THE DETECTIVES
Literally every song on the first 3 albums are all bangers! Alison is off the first album, My Aim True. Red Shoes, Watching The Detectives, and Blame It On Cain are standouts on a masterpiece of a debut. That's a good start. His has so much great music. Elvis Costello is truly a treasure of a musician and songwriter.💯🎶🎶🎸😎
Watching the Detectives, I Don't Want to Go To Chelsea, more of a banger and some great lead and bass guitar playing and clever vocal phrasing is I'm Not Angry.... probably one of his fastest songs.
In terms of classic Elvis Costello, I definitely recommend “Radio Radio,” “What’s So Funny Bout Peace, Love and Understanding,” “I Don’t Want to Go to Chelsea” and one of my favorites, “Deep Dark Truthful Mirror.” And for a deeper cut, and somewhat left of center song, “I Want You” is really good. His voice is highlighted so well in it.
Somewhere between this song and Pump It Up is what is probably my favorite Elvis Costello song: Everyday I Write The Book. Very fun, but also such great lyrics.
Oliver's Army is another Costello song worth having a look at..It's a song about the Conflict in Northern Ireland which lasted 30 year from 1960 known as The Troubles
I am so so so happy you reacted this. Such a beautiful song. I think your next reaction to Elvis Costello should be “Veronica”, “Accidents will Happen” or “Everyday I write the book”. He is such a unique talent. Love him!❤
Love this song !!! Got to hear watching the detectives Red shoes What's so funny about peace love and understanding Radio Radio These are ALL ICONIC ELVIS COSTELLO ❤❤
It’s not his most popular single but as a Summertime request I would love y’all to do Elvis Costellos “The Other Side of Summer”. Highly underrated single
Allison is my favorite song by Elvis. Everything about it is sooo good. Next I would go with (What's So Funny 'bout) Peace, Love & Understanding. I really like the song I Want You, really cool.
Elvis Costello has worked in so many musical genres. He did a country album in the late 80s called "King of America" -- so many great songs on that one!
@@michaelcullen5308 Right, but "King of America," the one I mentioned, is also a country album. I prefer it to "Almost Blue," which is why I chose that one.
One of his greatest songs in a catalogue of great songs. Well done for the reaction. He never performed it live until 1983, six years after releasing it, and all these years on its still an absolute highlight of his live sets...he often incorporates other like-minded songs into this when he does it live...genius...❤
Elvis Costello also collaborated and recorded with Paul McCartney. I would suggest the song Veronica. As well as My Brave Face which is a song that Elvis Costello helped write and Paul McCartney sing some vocals on
Watching The Detectives is my favourite EC song - there's not another song like it! BIG drums and a scary narrative, with a heavy reggae slant. It's a MUST LISTEN!!
Fun fact... The backing musicians on this track were from a California band called Clover. Their actual lead singer at the time was none other than Huey Lewis.
Clover were kind of the house band at the bottom of the hill that I lived on in San Anselmo at a club called "The Lion's Share" in the '70s, before they were Elvis Costello's backup band, or Huey Lewis and the News. It was also the first place that Randy Newman played in public. It had amazing music for a tiny venue. I saw Taj Mahal and Van Morrison there, among others.
Such a good choice for your second EC review, it really shows his range from Pump it Up. He has so many more, in so many Genres from Country to Crooner. ✌️
Are you familiar with Elvis's wife, Canadian jazz singer Diana Krall? Incredible smoky-husky-but- refined voice, great piano skills. Pick a song. Any song.
Elvis Costello when he was alongside his band "The Attractions" put out dozens of bangers. Their fiorst 3 albums are loaded with hits. Enjoy this small but powerful rabbit hole!
Love that you picked another Elvis song. "Watching the Detectives" has the most amazing bass track, it's pretty much the lead instrument. All his early stuff is fantastic. Linda Ronstadt does a cover of "Alison" that's also pretty good.
(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love & Understanding, Oliver's Army, I Can't Stand Up For Falling Down, Accidents Will Happen, and Everyday I Write The Book, are my favorite songs from him. I listen to those all the time. The man is a total class act!
Elvis Costello is definitely a legend!!! He's got so many amazing songs to check out, but I really think you guys would love "What's So Funny Bout (Peace, Love and Understanding)"
I love, love, love the opening guitar riff. He's seeing Alison's life isn't all that great and that if he was in her life he would never hurt her like the guy she ended up with. "did he leave your pretty fingers lying in the wedding cake?" It's a sad song. Very melancholy.
I must say, you guys have gotten really good at hearing all the little things that make a song great. It's been great to see your growth month after month. You sound like a pair of old pros, honestly! Really great job guys!
Love to see you guys circling back on EC! Such a prolific song writer. He's just got so many hits its unreal! One of my favorite suggestions would be "Oliver's Army", but as others have suggested, I would also not be mad at you for doin "What's so Funny About Peace, Love....." either! ;)
Elvis Costello's song "Veronica" is a great song about an elderly woman with Alzheimer's, who had such a beautiful exciting life. Touching and catchy tune.

Peace, Love and Understanding is my favorite song of all time. It is written by his good friend Nick Lowe, which Elvis acknowledges. When in a concert with Nick he says "This is a song that Nick wrote and I stole."
2 MORE of my FAVES ! (watching the detectives and Oliver's Army are the OTHER 2 faves!)
Nick Lowe produced the MAIT album. I saw Nick & Dave in concert twice once with Paul Carrack. OMG.
This and Watching The Detectives and Red Shoes are his best. Watching The Detectives should be your next Elvis Costello song.
I'll second that!!
Hear hear!!!
🎵…she’s filing her nails, while they’re draggin’ the lake…🎶. Classic!
I second Watching The Detectives, but I would throw in Shipbuilding and Every Day I Write the Book.
Yes I have to agree!
I really like “Every Day I Write the Book.” It just makes me smile and puts me in a good mood. 👍😊
Fantastic song.
Very underrated song.
Something about the changes in “Every Day” blows me away!
Love that song!
Yes!!
Alison is pretty good, but IMHO Veronica is a masterpiece. The lyrics are so good.
I agree. I love the song Veronica.
Especially the story behind Veronica ✌️
Veronica is also my favorite, but I’m overall a huge fan of most of his songs.
YO DID SOMEONE HACK ME I DID NOT SAY THAT
IVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS
His song Veronica is beautiful. I believe it was written about his grandmother who had dementia
Yes, co-written with Paul McCartney (who plays bass as well) and is such an emotional song.
💖💖💖💖💖
If they do Veronica, they should react to My Brave Face as well. They co-wrote both of them.
I love Elvis Costello! His version of the song "She" is so beautiful and definitely my favorite.
Love that song. It was used near the end of the 1999 film Notting Hill.
Most definitely.
Yo did y’all actually say this because I had some comments on this video that I sent but I had NEVER SEEN THIS VIDEO BEFORE IDK WHAT IS HAPPENING

When I first heard this song , many moons ago, I thought it was a love song as well. It was in an interview that I heard him talk about the darker side of love.
I always got that from the lyrics. I got a kick out of the smooth R&B feel of the music juxtaposed with the darkness of the lyrics.
I don't think 'my aim is true' has to do with a gun..except maybe as a double entendre ... but he certainly is not the friend he is trying to pretend to be
This is the comment I searched for in case I would be redundant.
How can people not hear it? Mr Costello is not advocating, he is illustrating.
Not according to EC, he stated the song is about “disappointing somebody” and denies suggestions that it “refers to murder.”
Really, that's what you think?
