    Today I watched you cut down 2 trees with a hammer, set your BOL on fire, and cut a maple tree in half with a butchers knife.... then I subscribed.

    Yeah, that Ontario Butcher knife series is awesome. They make a 7, 10 and 14 inch version i think. And they are all cheap as dirt. Even unmodded, in a homemade kydex sheath for a total price of maybe 30-40 bucks the 7 inch version would make a great camp knife.

    WOW, I JUST BOUGHT ,
    14'' Got from E- Bay brand spanking new, paid $24.00 free ship,
    Its not my first Old Hickory, and wont be my last, most times i see the used models
    going for more $$, people think old ones are better made, (not true). Old or new same knifes, same quality, same sizes, same steel, same every thing to the smallest detail.
    Up to a few years ago it never crossed my mind to use in the back woods. Then bingo, it hit me, had the makings of some of other knifes i had and liked so pulled one out of our kitchen knife drawer and was pleasantly surprised of their ability to accomplish the tasks of my other much more expensive wood working knifes.
    After using and pleased with ability's, i did some research and found out i must have been the last person on earth to realize they had been used by woods men, Native Americans , Etc. Etc.
    Been used used by every body for every thing a knife could be used for, since their birth. Haven't changed a lick.
    1095 high carbon steel , hickory wood , two brass rivets, full tang, Ontario Old Hickory Made in the good ole U.S.A.
    Handed down from generations to generations and cherished by all who had highly valued its quality.
    Some folks do modifications, some leave as is.
    Ranger bands on handle can be used or of course paracord,
    Paracord could be a way of carrying extra cordage , but i like ranger bands my self that could be used for different tasks if needed and wrap paracord around my sheath as extra. For any one who actually would read this, if not knowing what ranger bands are, simply put are bicycle inter tubes cut to size, i have found that bicycle shops will give you all you want from used tubes that are thrown away, no charge.
    Now sheaths are a little harder, either you make out of leather or kydex or send to sheath maker and there not cheap, but usually made well.
    I bought a Ka- Bar military knife sheath from Amazon a while back that fits my 7'' old hickory very nice. some will say US Army or Marine or some are plane, very good quality if you like leather witch i do. I have even used duct tape but not very classy but can hold your knife.
    Well i apologize for being so long, may be some of the info will help others.
    I would like to thank every one and every one involved who helped make this video for all of us. I enjoy this channel and all well done videos ,
    So Thumbs Up Bro.
    maybe see you on the trail one day.
    Oh, don't let any of the big foot or dog man story's keep you out of the woods , if you listen to them, but a wise woods man always keeps an eye out for things that could hurt you. Stay safe, have fun, and use those old hickory knifes and always carry an extra knife of any kind as a back up.
    Thanks again, love the videos!!!!

    Thanks for the vid. These knives are cool they are easy to sharpen hold a killer edge that lasts. They are one of the knives you see that's been sharpened so much that the blades nearly gone. the only thing I have to watch out for is no tang easy to get cut when sticking. I have never seen a broken one. They make tones of different styles. Old Hickories are my favorite knives for skinning .

    I was thinking about picking a couple of these babies up for my brother and me and modifying them. I was thinking maybe black and grey crushed carbon fiber or a black twill carbon fiber with copper pins , then spraying a chemical copper then let it dry and spray something called torch to patina the copper . That spray will bring out green , blue and purple out of the copper . Well now it made me think of copper slabs and carbon fiber pins , spray the copper handles with the torch and then a clear acrylic . Either-or is a winner , seeing your video I dont have to think any more , I'm making them both lol .

    I started to buy one (they are only $11) but thought that I wouldn't want to use my more expensive knives in case I had to do some hard, dirty work that would mess up my expensive knives. Dave Canterbury uses an Old Hickory, so I know they will get the job done. It just does not have the "cool factor" that I crave.

    by the way they are pretty damn cheap blades. for bushcraft use, you will need to reprofile the bevel, it comes double bevel from the manufacturer. it can take a bit of patience to work out the second bevel completely. mine was a bit under ground on one side, so it has been a bit more work to get it to a true scandi. and probably want to address the handle, I took the wood off and made it a paracord wrap. and there is a little spot of the cutting edge you might want to grind out, it's right where it meets the handle. if you slip, your finger is in a bad situation otherwise.

      Josh Wade they are completely different knives mate

    • @Realwademasters
      @Realwademasters 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah one is a stick tang but old hickory makes many different knives large and small so they are very comparable knives actually thickness and size

    • @Realwademasters
      @Realwademasters 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also + brutalbrital you are obviously just thinking of one size mora I didn't mention any specific model Ontario paring knife 3.5 inch blade Ontario butcher 7 ,10,skinner,steak, they all compare to a mora model of some sort for the same money pretty much mora is meant for working but over and over its been proven that Ontario old hickory works to in most cases even better Mate

      Oh and 1 more thing an Ontario cam be designed after a lot of different knife styles and designs with a little bit of work I am always customizing one (kephart,droppoint,4 inch blade 7 inch blade I can even make it an exact scandi mora replica if I wanted to with mora you can't make it much different it just is what it is so think next time

      a toyota hi lux and a downhill pushbike are both about the same price they are both modes of transport, which one is better? your arguement is ridiculous much like most other 'comparisons' and tell me who are you to declare that 1095 is better than Mora's swedish steel, its a stupid argument as well for both are completely different and both have their pros and cons, just dont 'compare' things it doesn't do you nor either of them justice.They are both excellent knives and companies I have several from both companies and have used them all for years as well as others each knife I have has its own 'personality' and I have learnt to use them in that way. Even when designing and making knives I try to incorporate the right steel and handle for the right job, it doesnt always go as planed lol. You and I are both humans which of us is better, you are good at what you do I am good at what I do comparing us is non-productive and futile...(by the way I'm better in case your wondering hahah) thanks for your thoughts I don't agree with you but you are very entitled to have them regardless of what I say so in closing good luck mate regards.

    just because the knife can do it don't mean it should. I have an old hickory and I pamper it. if I need it, I want it it top shape. if you can use an axe, do so. if you can use a saw, the do so. your knife is neither axe or saw so stop fucking using it as such. this is just going to get it in peoples heads that they can use a knife to do everything and when it fails on them, their fucked.
