I love Will’s insecurity as soon as he hears an old man can bench press more than him.
That’s what stuck out at me this time around too. Immediately switches tactics.
That’s the first indication that Will should stop poking the bear.
Ole man strength is real! So much pent up rage you dont care what your body is telling your.
In my opinion that is not the point of that conversation at all.
To me, Will puts up his persona as a defense mechanism and Sean just rolls with it, his answers are not true, because Will's intentions are not true.
When Will sees that Sean can keep up with facade Will changes tactics.
Will is essentially turning the power struggle, regularly disguised as pleasant smalltalk, into a caricature, showcasing and commenting on the twisted worldview he believes people have.
Ironically Will is ignorant and arrogant since he perpetuates the negative features he despises.
And despite of that and being good at math, he really didn't calculate his next step correctly.
That line "I don't have much hair left" always cracks me up because it was said by Hollywood's hairiest actor.

There is a place that you can touch within virtually anyone where you do not want to ever go. If you do, you will likely very much regret it.
This entire scene is Will trying to provoke Sean. Constantly pulling at threads, trying to find something to get under Sean’s skin. When Sean snaps, Will thinks he’s won as his plan is to make himself beyond help so he doesn’t have to attend counseling. It’s leads to Will’s shock when Sean returns for a second session. Absolutely beautifully done
Theory time, Sean knew the entire time what was happening. He knows Will is searching for his weakness so he plays along, sets it up with the first comedic rebuttal, calmly takes off the glasses, then shows he’s not afraid to physically push back while also “loosing” to Will by showing emotion/weakness/attachment first. Sean plays along like I’m sure other psychiatrists have and Will eats it up and completely missing that Sean knows what Will is doing. The next time they meet, Will has to know he’s been played but it also simultaneously proves Sean cares in a new way and he’s smart enough to keep up with Will.

@@DibbzTV I remember the next scene differently but I’m also watching clips instead of the whole thing in context. Intentional outburst or not, I’ve always felt Sean is aware of what Will is doing and lets him have the upper hand in order to illustrate how Will hides behinds his assumptions.
It wasn’t really a win though, because Will thought his wife cheated on him or there he lost his temper because of the wrong wife, but that didn’t happen. He lost his temper out of defending her for Will’s disrespect
@@ShawnThroopsome of what you're describing is just the subtext of the scene. Sean is aware that Will is testing him and trying to prove that he's basically full of shit. Will is actively trying to get out of having to do therapy. Sean is also aware that Will sees himself as superior, because he's been able to prove he's smarter and more capable than any of the psychologists he's seen before Sean, and continues to infuriate Gerald, the math professor. Hence the criticism of his choice in books, it doesn't bother Sean, he's self confident in his intellect; his measuring up of his physical attributes, Will immediately moves on; then his criticism of the art work. He finds Sean's weakness, but misses the mark. The piece is tied to a particular set of feelings for Sean, and when Will brings up his wife whom he loved deeply, Sean snaps. The scene escalates the tension by showing Sean trying to diffuse the attacks with humor, but he loses his cool. Will is looking for the answer to why would someone smart do this job, and in the next scene with the two of them we get Sean explaining his experience and connecting.
One of my favorite moments of the movie. Will was accustomed to intimidating others by his intelligence or violence. He never met another intellectual who could perpetrate violence upon him. This is actually the beginning of their relationship.

I love this scene because it confirms what I already knew about Robin williams and what I suspect about most so called comedic actors. Their not really funny their really serious dangerous even. I think Robin williams is dangerous person or at least powerful or was powerful think about. When u watch today's comedians do they REALLY make u laugh REALLY the answer is no not by a long shot.

The snap from his lunge to gripping him by the neck . The whole dynamic/mood shift and initial shock in Will’s eyes. All control gone from Will to the hand and the rage in Robins eyes .
Actually Sean’s emotional outburst only helped Will’s case, it wasn’t until the park scene where Sean was able to get through his skin.

Secondly, he doesn't try to compose himself, he'd fling Will's ass across the room if he kept on egging him. Remember the psychiatrist that he mocks with afternoon delight? Mrs. Doubtfire's great in it's own way, and I really like it a lot. However, it's funny, whereas this role is not funny. The way he comes and goes between drama and comedy is just flawless, and this scene just confirms his amazing acting ability. Plus how often do you get to see Robin Williams threaten to "end" someone and actually look intimidating?
What really baffles me that Matt Damon and Ben Affleck had the vision to write this absolute masterpiece at such a young age. I also love that they were friends in the movie like they are in the real life. The director work and casting is also perfect. Truly a joy to watch art like this that touches you deeply.

Heard a kid who got bullied say that to his bullies. They kept fucking with the quiet kid, he snapped and beat the shit out of the ringleader. Remember, will was abused. Sean became a physical threat to Will, which he knows is a big part of why Will has the walls he does. In later scenes Will questions Sean about his wife, but does so from a 'Im just wondering' stand point. Not the 'you married her? you schmuck' tone line this scene. Will may have won the battle finding the chink in Seans calm, but Sean made it very clear.... "Disrespect my wife again, I will end you" Coming from a man who is physically stronger, can conversationally spar back and forth, and can send him to prison with a phone call. But Sean doesnt want to do that. In their next scene at the lake Sean tell Will about the flaws in his armor. Sean sees the scared shitless little kid, and hes fascinated by him. And can only learn more about him if he talks. And now he knows where the line is, how far he can go, the only move Will has to hurt Sean is one that will cost him. So its his move.....
I love it when Robin comes back with “285. What do you bench?” Just totally rips Damon’s character in half and he’s so embarrassed he changes the subject. Dagger

This scene is fascinating to dissect and really shows the writers know how counselling works. I doubt anyone's interested but here's my very long in-depth analysis of the scene.
This is Will's first session here. It feels important to him that he shows how strong and tough he is and that he doesn't need therapy. You see it all the time with kids in counselling, there's that way of strolling round the room as though you're a) testing the space is safe, the way an animal will in unfamiliar territory b) asserting dominance by strolling round again, almost like an animal leaving its scent and c) looking for weaknesses to attack: he chooses the books he keeps.
"United states of american history volume 1" said in a sneering manner. Keep in mind all this time Sean is just sitting there still in the centre of the room, while this kid just waltzes around sneering at things, imagine how it'd feel for someone to do that walking round your bedroom? That's the feeling Will is trying to push onto Sean. Will then notices the army picture, he has some level of respect for that, it's not something he can attack so he ignores it and brings his eyes back to the books. "Jeeesus."
And then lighting a cigarette, the ultimate way of asserting his dominance, "fuck your smoking rules, you can't control me just like non of the other therapists could." He then schools Sean on what the correct history book to read is "I know more than you do, you're stupid compared to me."
Sean shoots back with Noam Chomsky book to say "I equal your intelligence". A moment Will again ignore, barely even taking in what Sean says. That's something this scene gets perfect: the filter people can have on their minds, Will simply filters this out and says "you people fucking baffle me."
That's my favouite line of the scene because what it shows you is what all these books feel like to Will. They're not just books in a room for Sean's use, Will interpret them like bragging, like a load of medals Sean has hung on the wall to show off his intelligence. Firstly, Will wouldn't like that and has to criticise because Will needs to be the one to show of his intelligence and dominance but secondly...just the idea that that's how Will sees it. It might be correct that Sean has all those books on shelves to make himself look smart and respectable, but there are tonnes of ways Will could've interpreted it...yet he saw it as that: these books are a threat, they are this stranger therapist showing off how much better he is than me, I don't like that. Tells you a world about how Will's mind works that he sees a load of books on a shelf like this.
"You surround yourself with them and they're the wrong fucking books." Another great line. "surround yourselves with them" like these books are armour, a fortress for Sean to hide behind. Just the idea Will sees it that way says so much about him...but they're the wrong fucking books, because Will need to show he knows better and is smarter.
"So what are the right fucking books." Does two things a) Sean shows he doesn't mind swearing and not uptight in that same way all the other therapists were. b) he's challenging Will's point in a way that gentle and not at all confrontational. Will ofcourse can't list the right fucking books because he doesn't exactly know himself, it was just a comment he made to try and make Sean feel stupid so he says "whatever will blow your hair back."
"I ain't got much hair left." This is where Sean start employing humour, largely poking fun at himself because he recognises that Will doesn't want to be made to feel small and it might set him off. It shows he can take Will's insults, he's strong enough to manage them without either breaking down or reacting angrily to them. It shows Sean is resilient to cope with Will, which begins stage two of their interactions. Will is no longer just trying to assert his dominance, he's know also testing if Sean is strong enough to bear him, or if he's weak like the other therapists and will give up on him. This is all unconscious so Will won't know it's what he's doing, but he's now starting to test if Sean is good enough to manage someone with as much emotional baggage as Will. Want proof for this fact? Remember later in the film where he tells Skylar that he reckons she'll leave him if they get too close because everybody leaves him? That's what he's expecting Sean to do, so he tests it. "If I go on the attack, if I show Sean my very worst, will he give up on me?"
"You're better of shoving that cigarette up your arse." Sean's attempt to stop him smoking done with light humour. Will responds with humour but refuses to stop smoking. Sean shows he won't just completely ignore it, but he realises Will isn't ready to let go of that total dominance and power he needs to feel yet, so he laughs and just accepts it. It's almost like a compromise "I've pointed out I don't like you smoking but I'm willing to accept it this first session if it helps you settle in."
Very macho talk about lifting. Sean shows Will he's not weak. In comes the filter on Will's mind after Sean points out he benches 285...that's more than Will so he ignores the comment and changes the subject. This moment is also where the session start to derail. Will doesn't want to be made to feel small and weak...the idea that Sean is physically stronger makes him feel exactly that. Will needs to address the balance by quite cruelly attacking Sean now so he goes for something very personal: a painting.
As he's staring at it you hear Sean ask. "You like art? You like music?" he feels nervous that Will is going to attack his painting so he's trying to draw the subject away, Will repsonds by telling it's a piece of shit. A pretty damning statement but Sean shows he's tough enough to take it. It's not quite had the effect Will was hoping the attack would have so he sticks the knife in further.
He criticises the skill of the painting, which Sean is still able to bear so he goes deeper and attack the emotions behind it. He starts psychoanalysing: he starts using Sean's own profession against him, that's as harsh as an attack as you can get. He also uses it to suggest Sean became a therapist because he fucked up his life. But again, Sean takes it on the chin. "Bingo!"
I should also point out, Will has succeeded in getting Sean out of his chair by now. Wandering round the room was important for asserting Will's power but it also delays the session from really starting. If they both sit down together, Sean's going to start probing his feelings and that's dangerous waters for Will, he doesn't want that...he's now got Sean out of the chair as well and now that's happened, there's no hope of this session ever really starting.
So still, Will hasn't wounded Sean so he takes a punt "maybe you married the wrong woman?"
"maybe you should watch your mouth."
His attack finally lands. That slight grin you see on Will's face here tells you everything. It's the same grin that anyone who has worked in a school will know. You can almost read Will's unconscious thoughts here as "I've finally found the chink in his armour. I've finally broken him down. Now I can make him lash out and give up on me the same way everyone else does, which means I won't have to sit in this chair with him and delve deep into my uncomfortable feelings, because I'd rather not think about them. I've proved I'm tougher than him, I've proved I was right to think no one can stand me when I show them my worst, and I've also proved I don't need therapy. Victory!"
He makes the final blow and Sean finally loses it. Will looks a bit afraid at first but then his smirk returns and he mockingly says "time's up" meaning "another therapist I've broken, I win!" This is the part of the scene people seem to be misunderstanding. Sean's success isn't that he shows Will he won't put up with his shit, because all the other therapists showed that too, they wouldn't put up with his shit so much so that they refused to see him ever again. Sean's success is that even when Will throws everything he's got at Sean, even when he's downright cruel and stirs Sean into violence, even then, Sean will still see him again.
That's an incredibly powerful thing. Sure, it's important that Sean has set some level of boundary that Will won't break in the future "do not insult my wife." but the reason the work can begin after this is because Sean will see him again. It's the very message will wasn't exepcting "I won't give up on you. Even when you're the biggest little shit ever, I won't give up on you. I will forgive you, I won't hold a grudge, and we'll come again next week to repair our relationship." That's a hugely powerful message that he shows in his actions, a message we could all do with experiencing at somepoint. Will is used to people leaving him and now here's finally someone who won't. From here on Will can't really wonder "what if people hate me deep down? What if a time will come when Sean will see my real side and realise he doesn't like me anymore?" Sean has already seen the very worst of the worst from Will and he still wants to see him again. That's Sean's success: not that he lashes out, but that he can repair the relationship even when it's taken to breaking point.

Robin Williams was a comedian but he was also a brilliant and incredibly talented actor. If an actor or actress can make you feel joyous, make you laugh, make you cry, make you question yourself, pull you in and feel true human emotions for a character that doesn’t exist. That’s the mark of a true artist!
Art imitates life interpret it as a joke or a sob story it’s all your perception. Hence the saying art imitates life. It’s the good the bad and the ugly and everything in between.

That’s true. However if there is one thing about film you should know, is that it isn’t just the actors that do the art. That make a work truly fantastic. They are the quarterbacks of film. It’s the dialogue, angles and lighting, the greater story, scene by scene. Connecting just right. Which is a lot of people’s life work to make happen. I don’t care how good the actor is, if any of those other things aren’t up with the actor, you get bad movies.
This honestly must of been of favor or we live in a simulation. This was way beneath even before it became a "hit"
Robins acting is insane. After he chokes will and snaps on him. If you watch closely when he releases will as he walks past he keeps his head down and goes from pure rage too instant sadness. You can see the sadness as will walks past him

That part always haunts me because of Robins life. “Maybe that means you, maybe you’re in a storm a big storm” eerie but poignant.
One of the most overlooked parts of this scene is how when Gerry sees Will walking away, instead of following him to ask what happened, he goes to Sean, showing that his friendship with Sean is more important than even his work

He also empathised with Sean by saying he understood if he didn’t want to see Will again given Will was being a difficult smartarse to all the psychologists he saw before.

This scene will always, always, always hit me like a ton of bricks. When I was about 15‐16 I had a psychologist like this. Court appointed and all to keep me out of juvi. I'm 40 and still mourn Dr. Al Ferguson. Thanks Doc.

I love the part where Sean tells Will how much he benches and without hesitation asks Will the same question. I think that's where Will gets the first inkling that he's not dealing with one of the usual schmucks and he starts ramping up his questioning of Sean.

When Matt Damons character is describing the picture, I can't help but think, is that how Robin Williams felt in the time before he died.
For me, this scene really hits me harder now that Robin is gone, and the way he went as well.

the picture always made me think of the beginning of the Popeye movie that Williams played as Popeye, starts with a single row boat coming in from the storm with one passenger.

This is the scene where Will realised he was not messing with the usual quacks that get assigned to him.
I think Will was pushing Sean on things sensitive to him to ensure that he would lose his temper and ask for Will to be reassigned, just like every other shrink he had seen before. What he didn't expect was that Sean was a man from hard times himself, who had no fear of him and would fight him if provoked.
Although it starts them off on rocky ground, I believe it earns Will's respect, which is imperative in them gaining trust in one another later in the film.
Robin William's character is an ex Army during the Vietnam War. The giveaway is the picture on the bookshelf particularly the old olive drab camo the soldiers are depicted in. Moral of the story don't go messing with former soldiers because they might just crush your wind pipe.

After Robin died this scene just feels like he tapped into his own life and channelled it, you could see it in his eyes.

This movie has lost none of its punch in 22 years. Especially in those therapy scenes the interplay between Robin Williams and Matt Damon is so realistic one can almost forget these are two actors saying their lines in a studio. The contrast between the "I will end you!" and "It's not your fault" scenes is such a powerful transition and triumph.
Robin Williams was SUCH a great actor.

I was watching Hook with my young children tonight and it really hit me how much I truly miss Robin. I am almost 40 and grew up watching him in film and TV and I really miss him. He was such a light in the world. Far from the perfect person. He was very troubled throughout my lifetime but he still found a way to inspire others. I have yet to find another in cinema to have the same spark or be so moving in his portrayal of sensational characters. What a loss to the world.

The fear in Will's eyes when he get's choked looks so real. I think the acting stopped and real life kicked in a for a moment.

I love the lighting and cinematography that begins at 2:34. The lighting and closeup of Will's face might symbolize some sort of enlightenment Will is experiencing. He realized what makes Sean tick and how he can get underneath his skin.

The only comedian I can watch and take him seriously when he does serious movies, insomnia for instance blew me away. I’ve watch other comedians in serious roles I’ll be laughing in my head. With Robin he’s just fantastic from being super hilarious to being dead serious.

He knew Will had a chip even before they met but once Will diverted to cruelty Sean had enough.
The thing that I love about this movie is that the relationship between Robin playing the "sage" and Matt playing the "upstart" is not as stony and cliche as it is in other works. Robin plays a man who is not emotionally invincible, impervious to the barbs and jabs of Matt's character, and that makes the dynamic so much more organic and interesting. A more pedestrian script would've involved Robin offering nothing more than a somber smile to Matt's insults, letting Matt walk all over him as part of the unveiling and healing process. This scene is an example of how two men with unresolved issues - issues that actually affect both of them emotionally and make them vulnerable - can lead to a much more impactful story with a stronger resolution.

Man this was a great scene showing Robin Williams talent from loveable comedian to very believable acting. I bet even Matt Damon thought that he was going to get punched. Robin Williams will always be one of the greatest actors and may he rest in peace it's too bad we had to loose him.
Matt said that his neck was bleeding because of how hard Robin was gripping it during the multiple takes of this scene that they had to do.
Every single time I come back to this scene, or this movie in general, this part always gives me goosebumps and chills. What a spectacular juxtaposition of characters.

I love the ambient, suspenseful music in this scene. Once Will insults Robin's wife, it starts to build, because we know from Robin's response that Will went too far, but Will doesn't notice that. He sees the missing piece of a puzzle he was trying put together. But he didn't see he was two seconds away from getting his head ripped off.

Later on Sean enlightens him on Love, Relationships, the nature of attraction etc. Therefore Will saying 'maybe you married the wrong woman' was said wholly in ignorance of what the wrong or right woman is, why people fall in Love and why they get heartbroken.
Love this scene. Even though he's a Councillor/psychologists trying to maintain professionalism, he's also a broken man still grieving.

Love this scene for the visible shift in power. Will, having spent his life walking through everybody with no respect suddenly sees somebody who halts his arrogance with one fell swoop. I will end you! Brilliant.

Provoking that response from Sean was *entirely* the point, and what he wanted. Will wasn't "taken down a peg", either; that's the scene of their next session, on the bench, with Sean's monologue.

This scene is quite amazingly complex and subtle. And incredibly well-acted. So many subtle indications as to watch each of them is feeling - in a look, or a tone of voice, or in what is not said.

When an older guy takes his glasses off, be wary. I used to be a correctional deputy and I loved working with this old guy, Sgt Ramsey. He was in his late fifties, 6’6”, about 200lbs, and was more fit than most younger deputies. The inmates called him Sgt Death. When it came time to go hands on with uncooperative inmates (usually the younger guys), the older inmates knew the moment Ramsey’s glasses and watch came off, he was going to destroy whoever was being uncooperative. They would stated yelling to the younger inmates to just give up because they weren’t going to win against him. The youngsters never listened and it usually ended just like this clip.
Looking back on these old masterpieces makes me think a lot. How we have so few extremely talented actors like Robin Williams. I miss him dearly. Every time I watch a clip of him I’m filled with wonder and excitement. I don’t get that much now and days.

and the look in Damon's eyes when he knew he had crossed the line and
understood there were limits and an element of edge to this therapist - which
he was unprepared for - is masterful. It's the depth and maturity of the acting,
the excellent script, the contrast of characters here that make for an exceptional
and compelling movie for our minds.
It's taught me how to be more human, and to be mindful of my words and behaviour -
that hurt goes many ways and affects us unexpectedly if we continually cross lines.
I noticed how Will looked back at him as he walked out.
This scene never fails to give me chills. Intensity
Even as he shows a strength only available during moments of rage brought on by lost love, he shows restraint knowing the true strength of the mind that exists at the upper level of the throat he's strangling. Robin wasn't a comedian, he was a human who knew what it was like to feel every emotion possible. He was just fantastic at putting on a face to copy each one.

I like how Robin removes his glasses first, whistles, and moves in for the kill in a flash.
Damon's performance here is brilliant, the facial expressions and little nuances in his voice are all there. But Williams was showing himself to be the GOAT in this scene. There's not much more powerful than a gentle, soft spoken man that looks like he can fight if you push him to it.
I grew up watching Robin's manic performance on "Mork & Mindy," then later doing standup and comedic roles in movies.
Only when I saw him in "The Fisher King" did I realize that he had so much depth to the roles that he could play.
Because of how well he did in that movie, it wasn't quite the surprise that it would have been to see how excellent he was later in "Awakenings."
When he did this movie, that was his best ever, though.
This scene was excellent because the character of Sean is showing this young man full of false bravado that he won't put up with his wife who had died young due to cancer being disrespected.
The difference between knowing a lot and having actually done things. Sean benches 285, Will doesn't even reply. Sean paints, Will doesn't do any art "paint? sculpt? like art?" no reply. Photo shows Sean with military buddies in wartime. Will has never committed to anyone or anything but himself. Sean is a man, Will is a smart-ass boy who thinks he knows about the world and judges everyone and everything else. Sean has the books and the knowledge, but he's also lived in the world...war, marriage, career, expressing himself in art... It really shows the difference between a boy and a man, and both play their parts perfectly. Robin Williams was superb at just taking it until the boy crossed a line.

The reason he didn't answer is because Will didn't want to reveal anything personal about himself and in fact trying to find something to provoke Sean to get under his skin.
i caught that too. there's nothing better than seeing a young punk try to compete with someone who has "old man strength" like that. I've been on the receiving end of the "young punk" part of that equation more than once. Two weeks ago i saw a 65 year old mechanic lift a transmission full of fluid out of a full sized pick up and carry it across the room, and all i could think was "fuck me, me and another guy could barely get that to budge between the two of us"

He can't bench 285, Will is using a psychological tactic - he is trying to find a weakness, an insecurity so he can exploit it. By answering the way he did he is basically showing that he doesn't care for the convo, hes calling Will out on his probing shit.
Eventually Will hits the nail on the head with the Wife comment - you can see his smirk, he found a way to exploit and piss off this new therapist. He digs in deeper and ends up pinned against a wall - not a typical reaction from a Therapist. He basically wanted the Therapist to kick his ass out.
Thats the thing about hurt folks like this, they try and push people away.
Robin Williams character doesn't bench anything close to 285. It's a lie, and a lie so obvious that it's makes it clear he wants will to know he's lying. Will was trying to start a bragging contest over who was stronger, and Sean put him in a position where continuing it would have made Will look foolish, which is why Will immediately changed the subject.
Reminds me of intellectuals, they claim they have understanding because they read books forgetting that more knowledge and wisdom is gained from actual real experiences. I love how Will overlooked the fact of Sean's military picture in Vietnam, not very observant, lol.
One of the thing’s I love about Robin’s character in this film. He’s human. He’s not some divine, faultless helper. He has a breaking point like all of us and he has an inner rage like all of us and when Damon crosses that line, he has no qualms about slapping him down. I respond to that and I think Damon’s character responds to that: he’s met someone who, although willing to put up with a lot, will snap back eventually. It’s human. It’s real.
THIS movie was an absolute rocking movie!

The beauty behind the relationship with both characters is that Will tests him. Intellectually, physically and then on a emotional level. One doesn't just see a psych and instantly bond with them.
Well deserving of the Oscar for best screen play. Dialogue in this movie was amazing.

Greatest scene in the movie IMO. Establishes Sean as a guy not to be fucked with, you could see the shock and recognition in Will's eyes after he was choked, even though he still tried to be a smartass about it. When Will gets to the "any port in a storm" part, you can see Sean's reaction changed from just brushing off Will''s comments, to a mounting recognition that this was going to end badly. Sean sighs then covers his mouth because he knows this confrontation is coming to a head soon, yet he is still trying to restrain himself.
Great acting by Williams and Damon.

guys like that will often laugh or smile and give a half hearted warning, like "boy, you really dont know what what your getting yourself into. please dont make me do this". Robin Williams played that part perfectly

@@constracted7331 the "hidden badass" character trope and the "good is not soft" trope, where someone is quiet, soft spoken, and generally a nice guy but will put you through a wall if you push them too far. TV Tropes has good examples of these types of character in fiction and if you look at the "real life" section you'll see some real examples of these types of people. One famous example I can think of is Simo Haya, a rather small, soft spoken Farmer in the Finnish countryside. Everyone who met the guy said how unassuming and self depreciating the guy was. He also killed over 800 Soviet soldiers with a rifle and around 400 more with an assortment of other firearms, and survived getting shot in the head with an exploding bullet.

I love how during the session Will has multiple attempts to provoke Sean the same way he provoked other therapists. All the crap he gives Sean about benching, time-wasting books, his picture, etc. Before Will started saying sh*t about Sean's wife, Sean calmly agreed with Will and answered his stupid questions, which noticably caught Will off guard, as his childish brain was not prepared for such brutal honesty.
One of my all-time favorite movies. This scene is even more poignantly sad now. I wish Robin Williams was still with us though I fear he was always in the middle of a big f*ing storm. RIP Robin WIllaims.
Good Will Hunting is a great movie and it put Matt Damon and Ben Affleck on the map, as it should have, but it was Robin Williams performance that absolutely put this film over the top and made it a masterpiece. He's incredible in this movie. Some of the finest acting I've ever seen. Robin Williams has a screen presence that's undeniable. He raises the bar of every scene he's in and brings the best out of the other players. A master thespian.
Two details I love in this scene, one acting, the other a prop. First, the little sly grin that comes over Will's face at 2:29 when he finds that his crack about Sean's wife has touched a button. Second, seeing "I'm OK -- You're OK" in the background of the shot with Sean holding Will by the throat.

I love it when he says "I don't have much hair left" implying to a young, egoistical Will that he has experienced life in ways he couldn't even begin to imagine.
