Something with a Spanish windlass mechanism tensioned to a few hundred pounds and a bowling ball would probably be fun, but with anyone else being around the house it's not quite worth it.

Also the thief is probably someone that watches this channel and lives nearby. They probably knew you had a bunch of expensive equipment set up at night
Yeah definitely keep an eye on Craigslist and eBay.
Now that they know there is good stuff in the barn, you can be sure the thief (or their friends) will be back. If you put in cameras, mount them out of reach and lock up your ladders.
I like the idea of a stun-trap for the thie.. I mean, mice. Yeah. That’s what I meant.

I put up IP cameras all around my house. They record on a server in my house using Blue Iris software. I got them to catch shady characters in the neighborhood and neighbor shenanigans but they pick up wildlife too. The best thing is they are continuously recording so even if they don't trigger motion I can still find out what happened.

I never had any interest in trapping, I stumbled upon this channel by accident and absolutely love it. Shawn is doing fantastic work here.
Better production value than most how to tv shows these days.

Maybe it's time to start the Human Trap Tuesday series!
Most important in trapping moles is to find their active runs. Those mounds that they make in the center of your yard are not it. They often make excursions from the regular runs to look for food. That is what those piles in the middle of your yard are. You will also find piles near the runs where they excavate the excess dirt to the surface. What you want to look for are the actual runs that run horizontally, and not up to the surface. Most often, active runs are along walls, under fence lines or along and underneath lawn edgings or sidewalks. You will see mounded up runs if you look closely. Most times the runs are less than 6 inches down. Place your scissor traps like Shawn shows in those main runs. You can also lightly squish down those runs to see if the mole digs them out again and makes the domed trail again. That way you know you have an active run.
Sounds like you need to get some of those Amcrest 4K security cameras I recommended a while back. While I suggested them for use as trail cameras, you need them to secure your property!
One time we trapped a mole and put it in the field. It was eaten by a blue heron. He dipped it into the water a couple of times before swallowing it.

He could dig a six foot deep hole and at the bottom put sharpened sticks pointing upward. Cover it with thin long twigs. Put towels over the twigs, then smooth dirt over the towels to make it look natural.

Had to look it up. Obviously if they’ve become a nuisance then you must control that, but if not I just read they can be good for the environment.

I've got an alarm system that notifies me if there is any motion in the barn. It's attached to my house system and texts me if there is any movement in the barn. Don't know if you want me to say the name of the brand here, but I really hope you catch them. Maybe you need to make a bigger trap for your new pests. :)

Years ago when lead was used for pipework plumbers used wet mole skin for finishing joints. The skins were also used for making gloves.

Many animals have mole allergies, 2nd only to gluten. Lol.
There's some good security cameras that upload right to the cloud. Even if they steal them you can give the police the video.
Yes. We have 4 Zmodo cameras, that work well, especially for the price. They upload constantly plus they have motion sensors to send a notification. You'd have to have wifi in the barn, though.

I have been using these Victor's Out O'sight Traps for about 5 years now. They are only $9.00 each at our local Rural King store.

kind of a disclaimer: moles are endangered and protected in some countries. I.e. in Germany one is not allowed to kill or catch moles, only ultrasound is allowed to drive them away

Just found your channel and find it pretty fascinating. Enough so to subscribe! I've used a mole trap that has the spikes in it. Seemed to do the job but the downside is you're never 100% sure other than the trails seem to stop.

Ever since I saw your gopher hawk video, I’ve been able to kick those little diggers off the property. Last year I used it to handle a gopher at a friend’s house but it turned out to be a mole instead of a gopher. No problem using it on moles. Lots easier than burying a trap underground.
From now on definitely from now on put a camera somewhere out of view watching the other cameras, just do it 100% of the time. Trust me it'll be the best TH-cam video you ever made!

Hey Shawn I forgot to tell you I was watching this guy that made a giant mouse trap it was so strong he had to install a motorized winch like contraption to set it ,the trap was the size of a small car like those electric 2 seaters he was smashing all kinds of things, and when you mentioned the barn thief well....

“Anything used over 100 years must be the best” - I would agree you most of the time. Yet, we still use lead acid batteries in our cars, it’s a 100+ year old tech, and it sucks!! Thanks for the work you do Shawn... Keep up the fantastic work!... And, it sounds like you need a 2-legged trap...
