I watched your video before going to Samos and it helped me prepare for the landing here (as a passenger) - we had a go-around and landed safely on the 2nd approach 🙃. That was an exciting start of the holidays, landing here is indeed something.
Thanks for watching and for sharing your very personal experience! It's great to hear that the video helped you to prepare for the Samos landing as a passenger. I wish you lots of nice and safe flights!
Thanks for the great feedback! Yes, I thought already about doing that. We are limited in regard to possible camera mounting points. So it is more difficult than it sounds. But I keep it in mind.
Das Video war mal wieder Klasse! Super spektakulärer Approach und doch so ruhig am Ende beim Backtrack. Hat mir sehr gut gefallen - wie immer! Daumen hoch.
A bit hazy at the start of the video - you announced runway in sight a long time before I could see it on my PC screen! But the final stages of the approach ( from about 9 miniutes ) were very clear. Very interesting approach, as you seemed to be descending straight into t the hills until the final turn
That's right. Most of the time when we fly to Samos, its hazy some distance out but clears up when we get close to the airport. During this approach, we saw the airport very early, but you cannot see it in the video at that time. Even with our 4k quality we would need a telephoto lens to see it at this time in the video. Our wide angle camera shows it much later.
As a passenger Samos is probably the most exciting airport to land to. A great island but also how often do you get a non-straight path landing on an elevated plateau right before the runway ?
Thanks for your feedback. Airports with a very short final approach path and a 150 degree turn before like Samos are very rare. They usually require special training for the pilots in the simulator and introduction flights in the airplane. Also the trained pilots fly often to these destinations to stay current.
Thanks for your request. Right now, I cannot approve your request. I am unable to give you the permission for using parts of the video. I am very sorry.
@@ApproachandDepartureVideos I did have that feeling indeed, after I saw this impressive video. As I am right LPMA Madeira also. Thank you for your kind answer. I do also enjoy the way you interact with your F.O's after the flight. Many happy landings. Grtz from The Netherlands.
I absolutely love this, but could the A320 fly this itself? If not autoland, how close to minimums will the AP take you, and I guess the problem is what are the fixes/ILS (it needs fixes, yes). Thank you as always Capt Stefan. Wonderful.
Thanks for watching and your feedback! The autopilot will fly you usually to the minimums. But in Samos the minimums are somewhere at 1900 feet at a position over the water 90 degree offset from the runway track. Samos has no ILS. There is a procedure available which includes several RNAV points which brings us near the runway. But is is still a visual approach which has to be flown by pilots in reverence to the ground and obstacles. Autoland requires an ILS and a certain obstacle and terrain situation near the threshold.

sehr genialer Approach perfekt im Video abgebildet... Der Focus auf den Sidestick ist klasse, da sieht man wie präzise gearbeitet wird ! Chapeau !

@@ApproachandDepartureVideos that’s a bummer. Thanks for your reply anyway.
Hi Captain, I really like your video's. I do not react so much, but always a like. Can I ask, is Samos a captains landing?
It's great to hear that you like my videos! Samos is - like Funch - restricted to captains landing. Have a nice day!

BTW, you didn't introduce your co-pilot.
