Thanks for doing these videos. They are extremely helpful, help me pick up the basics of Maya, and I am one step closer to becoming an environment artist/level designer.
Absoluely brilliant, I have been wanting to create something similar for a long while, thank you so much for your tutorial, you make it look so easy, best wishes, John
OH MY Mike :D I LOVE your videos. They're so informative and very helpful to a newbie like myself. I'm going to use this tutorial for my class to help build similar scene. I may be back to ask additional questions. GREAT great work!
+Mike Hermes :D Not sure haven't gone through all your videos but do you have a fly through scene available? Basic primitives with color….. terrain, lakes, etc?
I think the "insert edge loop tool" at the minute 7:30 didn't work because u forgot to remove vertices from the previous edges by pressing "shift" + right click on the mouse and select "delete edge" (infact when you pulled down the top vertices for the roof, there are a lot of vertices). In this way Maya delate edges and vertices together .....By the way I'm learning very good stuff from yours tutorials...Thanks Mike!!!
not sure what's the difference between both as i'm still beginner lol, but i guess i meant shading, where you could put some texture and color for the objects.
As always great tutorial Mike n can u tell me that after rendering complete there appears sky look in your top of your image but in mine there in nothing like that can u tell me how can i make that sky look
is it better to use maya 2016 with mental ray or 2017 with arnold. I cannot get the artificial sun and sky method. can you do a tutorial on maya 2017. I am using the student version so I don't know if I'm missing any tools that come with the regular version. when I completed the house you did earlier with the garage in another tutorial I couldn't get any detail When I rendered everything out. I was also using maya 2017. thank you for your tutorials
Thanks for the video! I'm trying to get into map designing on Unreal and I plan on using Maya to create scenes like this. I am curious if you can tell me how I would go about making windows though. Breakable ones?
Hi Natasha, You need to add subdivisions ( edges ) to your plane in the attribute editor. ( Select your plane and hit Ctrl+A on your keyboard ) There you can add subdivisions to your plane, Mike
Maya 2016 How do You make that, that the things You do in .... That These things don't come in the middle.... Because You mark just the Place and the Quarter Comes in the Place You marked.... How does it function? 😊
i see that you modelled the stuffs focusing on the buildings more. But does that mean that the floor/ground aren't modular? Because if it isn't, than will you be texturing the entire ground in a single UV layout?
+Mike Hermes Thanks for the reply sir, do you paint the surface in photoshop? What if the ground were to be partially soil and partially grass, would you still use this method? I'm interested in creating an animated scene but am wondering should i use a game engine to design the terrain or should i do it straight up in maya. At least in unity there is the terrain editor which allows to paint precisely at the spot you want all in real time though i'd still go with the maya + photoshop method to get more details into the texture but i'm still new to this and would like to find out what do the majority prefer to use when designing terrain. EDIT: Btw for the modelling of terrains with hills and maybe bumpy surfaces, would you use maya or a game engine?
Hi Mike, thanks for sharing. Just want to ask if you offer a one-on-one online Maya Animation tutorial? Or if you also teach other 3D animation stuff? If you do, can you please email me your terms and condition? I have personal tutor but i'm not really satisfied with his skills and approach. I guess someone like you with great skills set is the best tutor for me. Hoping to hear from you soon. Thanks
Mike u are the man for maya learnt a lot and still learning from you. u are just awesome teacher.
Best Maya tutor on youtube
Thank you so much !
Lifesaver, made three weeks of studying make sense in 18 minutes

Thank you very much John
Thanks! I'm learning a lot with your tutorials!
That’s it!!! I’m quitting cooking and marrying animating. Boy... I always wanted to be an animator. I almost cried watching this.
I am glad you like it ! Follow your passion, I did :-)
That was great, you make this all seem so simple and straightforward!
Maya has been eluding me for a long time, you made this so simple though, thank you! Subbed :D
TY so much
Excellent tutorial .. Simple and easy to understand
13:28 "Nope, not happy with that... or am i?" Haha so good love it thanks man
+AI MI Talking to myself :-) That's what happens when you are sitting in front of a screen too long LOL
Excellent tutorial!
OH MY Mike :D

+BOXERGIRL Kelli-ann Very glad I can help Kelli-ann
+Mike Hermes :D
Not sure haven't gone through all your videos but do you have a fly through scene available? Basic primitives with color….. terrain, lakes, etc?
No, not really. What do you need specifically ?
A short scene depicting a game scene using primitives. For example, similar to street scene. A community with town homes, lakes, golf course.
+BOXERGIRL Kelli-ann I could but without proper UV ing etc it wouldn't really have a point as you can't use it for anything
Mike you are my favourite ... thnx nice tuts
Thank you !
Nice, i learn from the best, thanks mike.
Thanks man !
these videos are invaluable
Thank you
Thank you Mike Hermes Awesome 👍
I can now make a Cyberpunk city, although it will take some practice I'll get there!
Thanks for the videos!
You are very welcome
subscribed! it helped me a lot for my subject in class!
Thanks Ericka !

Nice
thanks for your tutorial. any tutorial coming up show how to add texture
***** I have done a few already.
thanks for the tutorial, it helps me alot. can you show how to do the shading for the house and street in the next tutorial?
Hi Vania,
Do you mean shading or texturing ?
Regards,
Mike
not sure what's the difference between both as i'm still beginner lol, but i guess i meant shading, where you could put some texture and color for the objects.
vaniaLP89
Vania, I'll see what I can do,
Regards,
Mike
Hi can you show physical sky and sun in viewport??
As always great tutorial Mike n can u tell me that after rendering complete there appears sky look in your top of your image but in mine there in nothing like that can u tell me how can i make that sky look
+Arun Anim I used Physical SUn & Sky in the Mental Ray settings as a lighting source. This created the Sky
is it better to use maya 2016 with mental ray or 2017 with arnold. I cannot get the artificial sun and sky method. can you do a tutorial on maya 2017. I prefer mental Ray over Arnold and now there is mental Ray for Maya 2017
Thanks for the video! I'm trying to get into map designing on Unreal and I plan on using Maya to create scenes like this. I am curious if you can tell me how I would go about making windows though. Breakable ones?
Check out my video using "bullet" in Maya ( this is a shatterer )
I was just wondering if you knew if this could be exported into Unity?
Can u make animation video of 10 min? I want to learn tht thing😊.
Cool.
7:05
i did the exact same thing you did but when i clicked on bevel nothing happened to the edges
+BlueDragon™ EDM Promotions Reset your bevel options to default settings and try again
WOW IT WORKED THANKS AGAIN
+BlueDragon™ EDM Promotions No problem, happy to help
Mike Hermes thanks i just finished the whole tutorial and my street looks great :)
Cool, would you like to share it on my FB page ?
I have a problem, it doesn't do like that for me, not when i create the plane, it doesn't show any "sqaures" and i cant insert edge tool properly
Hi Natasha,
You need to add subdivisions ( edges ) to your plane in the attribute editor. ( Select your plane and hit Ctrl+A on your keyboard )
There you can add subdivisions to your plane,

+meessen marvin Meessen, I am sorry but I don't understand what you are asking
+Mike Hermes i wrote You an Email. It is better to understand
i see that you modelled the stuffs focusing on the buildings more. But does that mean that the floor/ground aren't modular? Because if it isn't, than will you be texturing the entire ground in a single UV layout?
+Ermelious If I were to texture this I would either use a tileable image or I would paint the surface
EDIT: Btw for the modelling of terrains with hills and maybe bumpy surfaces, would you use maya or a game engine?
+Ermelious There are many ways to do this and Unity is certainly an option. I would probably use PS but like I said, many ways to do it
How can I make the sun lighting in maya 2018?
Because, in maya 2081, in render settings the options are different.
Can you help me please?
maya 2081 eh?
can i change the colour of these houses,,..?? if can ,...how i will do??
Texture them individually
Does this work in all Maya Version?
+Mercedita Shrestha It should
wow!
Thanks Elly
