  • 1st ride on the 2021 Patrol w/ the Bomber CR shock installed.
    Overall, extremely happy with a coil on this bike and I'm very hesitant to go back to the X2.
    The coil feels way more planted, it's much quieter and it has way more bottom out support!
    I removed the limiter so I'm running 170 F & R on the 2021 Patrol.
    Have you tried coil on your TR yet? You definitely should consider it especially if you're currently on an X2.

    Ripping dude!! Hella insight on the patrol as well. I'm looking at getting a patrol and I weight the same as you so this was good info for sure.

      Thanks for commenting dude! Hopefully this helps you. Apparently the bomber only fits on XL frames so keep that in mind as you’re looking for a coil. DHX might be a great option for you that won’t break the bank!

    Dude we are in exactly the same boat! Both running Fox 36 (grip 2) and had an X2 but moved to a bomber haha! Great video, really looking forward for my coil to come in next week. I bought it after I blew my 3rd X2.

    • @justin_niemi

      X2s just keep on blowing up. I hear fox is warranting them with the new models, I hope they do that for ya! The bomber just feels so much better.

    If your X2 is a 2021 model send it in to Fox. They will send you a new 2024 model. I just got mine. The X2 is a killer shock (when working)😮I removed a few tokens, left one in, and it feels sooo much better. With 0-1 token it feels almost coil like. Any more than 1 token it feels harsh. I have a DHX2 coil also and they feel really similar. I think most coil spring rate calculators are suggesting rates that are too low. Try going up one if you haven’t already. Great riding man! 🤘🏼

      I heard that about fox too! Sadly I sold the bike and my new one (used) came with an X2 that was cavitating. Yay me 😂 I was considering sending it in but slapped on my DHX instead and have been pretty happy so far so I’m just running it. My X2 on my patrol didn’t have any tokens in it but it did have a small negative space inside the can, it was only able to fit 2 spacers inside.

    Coil lookin good on them beautiful dusty trails

    Dude, you are an absolute unit as a rider! You described the shock in detail, calmly, while absolutely mobbing the trails! Subscribed.
    I recently coiled my '22 Patrol with a DVO shock and something I highly recommend..... A Sprindex adjustable coil. I can adjust my coil instantly from 450-500lb spring rate in 5lb increments. The coil is incredibly light compared to the stock coil. This shock has made all the difference, I mostly ride North Shore jank and it keeps that tire planted.

      @justin_niemi  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Chris 🙏🏼 the coil really elevates this platform so much doesn’t it? Traction for dayssss! I wanna try the sprindex one of these days I think I’d benefit from a 550# spring so I may grab the 500-550# one and try it out.

    Great video man! What limiter did you remove in the front to make 170? You convinced me to get the bomber and wanted to match the fork. Thanks

    Love my 21 patrol. I’ve been on the fence about a coil all fall. In my enduro race it was so chunky my x2 blew and my feet kept vibrating off. Do you worry about weight of the bike and that with the coil? I mean alloy with DH tires and a rear insert I’m pushing 39lbs.

    Have you had any issues with the reservoir hitting the down tube at full compression? I've heard that might be a thing, but I see you're on an XL.

    I just recently coiled my Z1 on my Patrol which has been life changing. I am waiting on my CR to come in. I am 200 pounds any idea on spring rate?

    • @justin_niemi
      @justin_niemi  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Brandon, hard to say for sure! It all depends on how much sag you want and how you ride. I’d say 475-525 is probably about the range.

      @@justin_niemi I heard from Transition that the 170 Bomber will not fit. Are you having clearance issues?

    • @justin_niemi
      @justin_niemi  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@brandonarch2906 no issues with the 170 at all but I’m also on an XL frame that may not be the same for smaller sizes.

    I have a Patrol from 2023 in carbon in XL at the moment i run a super Deluxe Air but i want a coil shock can i run it ?

    • @justin_niemi
      @justin_niemi  ปีที่แล้ว

      I can’t say for sure about the RS coil but I wouldn’t think there’d be an issue. I had no clearance problems with the bomber and I know lots of folks run the DHX2/Push etc on them.

    opinions and thoughts on 38 vs onyx?

    • @justin_niemi
      @justin_niemi  ปีที่แล้ว

      They’re both great forks! I really loved the OTT on the Onyx but the fox 38 is significantly stiffer. So far no creaks on the 38 and my fox 36/Onyx CSU would creak in 4-6months.

    Hey what size are you riding I have a medium 22 patrol I am 5’ 9”” and it feels tiny I bumped both ends up to 170 running a ultimate coil with a 400 pound spring really think I need a large

    • @justin_niemi
      @justin_niemi  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey man I’m on an XL I’m 6’3”. That’s the biggest downside to being sort of in between in sizes. Especially when you start adding travel and slacking out the bike it just keeps getting shorter.
