    I had a miscarriage on April 1st had a D&C and I got my period on on may 7th. Started tracking my ovulation on day 10th of my cycle. My period app predicted that I would ovulate on day 15th of my cycle. I had sex on day 12th and 13th of my cycle and sure enough i measured my temperature and it went up then I took a ovulation test and I had a positive LH surge on day 14th just like the app said. I’ve never had such and accurate prediction before. My husband and I are hoping for our rainbow baby

    Wanted to correct you on something. Not all women with PCOS have elevated LH. There are women with PCOS such as myself who opk’s work just fine, it just may be harder to pin point when to take them with long cycles (unless you’re checking bbt)

    This is an amazing video that helped me realize the importance and simplicity of OPK use! I got pregnant the 1st cycle I tried and found that my ovulation comes earlier than "normally". Unfortunately, I lost my pregnancy and ttc again and found that Premom app (that never works on my phone) channel advises to keep checking ovulation because there are surges and a peak so it's important to find the real peak, as they say. I'm confused as Dr. Crawford recommends to stop testing after the 1st surge but now I wonder what if it's a surge but not a peak?

    Thanks for this video. I’ve been trying to get pregnant for the past couple of months and with no luck so far I’ve decided to try using an OPK. My husband said I’m stressing (which I’m not) I’m just trying to use tools to hopefully make this more successful. I’ve seen and read different things, that it’s ok to use the first urine, that’s it’s not ok, to test around 10 in the morning and also test around 8 at night. So I’ve been testing twice a day. But I’ll use your advice and just do once. It makes me feel better hearing the information come from someone knowledgeable. I died laughing when you chucked the directions 😂

    • @CurlyFro16
      @CurlyFro16 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And I’m tracking with my app and predicted ovulation is today (Wednesday) but according to you ovulation might happen on Saturday with my 28 day cycle. That’s good to hear and I’m going to continue to test daily. I was starting to get a bit sad thinking it was me but really the app could’ve been wrong. Hopefully it works out this month but if not I feel better tracking my ovulation instead of JUST trusting the app to predict it

    Thank you for this video and advocating to talk to your doctor about irregular periods. I’m going through fertility treatments right now due to PCOS. My period has been irregular forever and any time I brought it up to my OB/GYN she said it’s fine, don’t worry some people have irregular periods. I always was frustrated with this answer because all of my friends periods were regular. Whenever I asked if it would effect me having kids I was told “we will talk about that when your ready to have a family” which was again, frustrating. Well fast forward to now, we’ve been trying for a year now with no luck. I am so thankful for our RE for not only a diagnosis of PCOS but answers to the questions I have been asking for years!

    I’m curious how you define irregular periods? You mention that it is important to see the doctor if you have irregular periods, but don’t explain what exactly that means. My understanding is that there are some natural variances in the cycle based on stress levels, etc. like that length of cycle could be different...?

    • @brissalluvia1992
      @brissalluvia1992 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The length of the menstrual cycle varies from woman to woman, but the average is to have periods every 28 days. Regular cycles that are longer or shorter than this, from 21 to 40 days, are normal.

    PLEASE HELP, in the video you mention that your first positive opk is the one you use to calculate after a certain amount of hours you will then ovulate. Brands like premom say finding your highest OPK, such as a dice stealer would be the time you then calculate to find your ovulation. WHICH ONE IS IT?

  • @marieclairelebel
    @marieclairelebel 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I would disagree about OPKs being useless with irregular cycles. They're a big part of what helps me keep my sanity in all this. But it does require a bit more effort not to waste tests (although I buy the cheap strips). I generally start later than the average person, and only if I feel like ovulation is coming, mostly when I see fertile cervical mucus, and stop as soon as I get a positive, so I generally end up only needing 4-8 strips.
    You are right though that irregular cycles are indicative of a problem, I do have PCOS, and now receiving treatment, but there are cycles sometimes that I have to go back to trying at home unmedicated, and I prefer to go back to OPKs then.

    • @NatalieCrawfordMD
      @NatalieCrawfordMD  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think some women with PCOS have an easier time than others, but I do hate to see women waiting on an evaluation and trying to use OPKs getting frustrated. Certainly IF* they can work for your particular situation - yay!

  • @giorgiacanali5457
    @giorgiacanali5457 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think that saying irregular cycle = go see your doctor, is a very broad statement. I have Irregular cycles but the change is of a few days 🙄 this is just a stressful message (and yes I am followed by a fertility doctor, had my eggs checked this year, very high reserve although I am 30, AMH is high, but multifollicular ovaries). My doctor told me Tu use OPK when I will be looking for a baby.
    Anyway, very informative video! I subscribe, as I am anyway concerned about my ability to conceive

  • @aliciapedersen

    Hi Natalie, thanks so much for your videos! They are so useful. I’ve bought the digital test and it has the three options; No, High & Peak. For me, a 23-26 day cycle (varies). I had a “No” On day 10 and then a “Peak” on day 11. I’ve been trying for 5 months but using the strip tests and found them hard to read. Is it a concern I had no “High” days? So this would mean for this cycle I ovulate on day 12, correct? As the test notifies you the day before ovulation (or thereabouts?). I also had a miscarriage 3 months ago which I think caused my cycle to be irregular for a few months. Would having a miscarriage naturally/spontaneously change your cycle length or make things harder? I have a healthy baby girl who is 21 months old so I know I can carry to term. Thanks :).

  • @lisap8800
    @lisap8800 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I know you say to stop after the first positive LH surge... but if I keep checking every 12 hours, the line will get darker over the next day and peak before it starts to decline. So is the first positive test my peak, or is the peak the darker line a day or so later? I use strips that come with an app that measures the intensity of the pigmentation of the line to try to give a more accurate reading.

    • @NatalieCrawfordMD

The last two months I’ve been tracking with LH. I’m curious why the clear blue OPK gave me a positive (solid smiley) on a Saturday, EWCM too, but the easy@home was still “low” on that Saturday, then that following Wednesday (4 days later) the easy@home was “lh high” and I wasn’t able to test with the clear blue due to it “locking me out” because it was too close in time from the initial pos reading on Saturday.
    I just find this situation odd. None the less, we baby danced daily during all of this.

    Hi doctor! I've been ttc for 4 years, finally controlled my pcos. My question is, do I have to wait for my peak lh test and then I ovulate after that? Or is it common to ovulate with a lighter positive lh test, and then have a rise of lh in the urine the next day? I had some ovulation symptoms before I had my darkest lh test which is why I'm wondering if I ovulated before I got my darkest lh test. I'm currently use Pregmate lh test strips. Thank you so much!❤

    Hi Natalie. Just to pick your brain because I have no idea what it means, i bought Clearblue two most fertile days and instead of two smiley faces I only got one. Is it possible that the first smiley should have been on the evening? I tested at 11 am negative, tested next morning at 11am got the smiley and the next day a negative. That makes me think my ovulation window is also very short perhaps?

    How much water can you drink in the morning? And can you urinate before taking the test? The digital instructions say to not pee for 4 hours before testing.

    Surely if you have regular periods then ovulation timing becomes more or less predictable. These are useful if like me your periods are not so predictable. Ladies with pcos are the exception

    Lovely! I have a question. I've seen several people say take ovulation test 2x a day after getting the first positive. Then, stopping after you get another negative. Do you recommend this method? If so, what additional time of day should we test ovulation?

    Is it true that not everyone ovulate the day after their LH surge? If so, is it risky to use LH tests to plan the transfer date in a natural cycle FET?

    What are your thoughts on the natural supplements Fertile Aide, OvaBoost and Fertile CM by Fairhaven Health? Trying to not stress about it, but I'm pretty sure I have PCOS as my cycles are all over the place since I can remember. Bought these after reading many positive reviews. My husband and I are trying to conceive so before spending tons of money on fertility at our local hospital I thought I'd try getting regular using these. Any product feedback is helpful! We'd love an addition to our life!

    I use the digital clearblue ovulation tests you described with the blank smile face, flashing smile face (high) and stagnet smile face (peak). Is there a good chance of conception when trying on a high day and then again on a peak day? Or just on both peak days?

    What does it mean if you have never got a surge? I have been testing for a few months now, a few days before im supposed to be ovulating, and have never had a peak or surge. I assume i ovulate as i was pregnant a few months ago, but it was a chemical lost at 5 weeks. What does this mean?

    Hello, I am currently trying to conceive and started using opk. I was wondering if the darkness of the positive test line matters? I got a positive on cycle day 13 (line was same as control). On cycle day 14 I also got a positive (line was darker than control). Which one should I use to predict ovulation. The app I use you can upload a picture of the ovulation test and it come up with a test to control ratio based on the darkness the test line compared to the control. And uses this to predict you ovulation. Is this accurate?

      I'm using the app too and from what I understand, your very darkest line is your peak. If you line got lighter start the one that was darker than control, then the darkest one was your peak

    Hello! I'm hoping for a baby soon for you guys! On the same boat except haven't been "diagnosed" with irregular periods. I'm usually due to get my period on the 23rd but usually get it a few days before or sometimes a day or two after that date- is that considered to be irregular? Also tend to spot during my week of ovulation and 2 days b4 getting period. Something is off 🙄

    Does this mean I ovulated ?

    Hi. I don't know if you will still see these comments but I have regular but long periods. My cycle (except when I had covid) was 27-29 says but my period is about 9-10 days of that. Do I start the test strips whilst I'm still on my period which would be 5 days before the middle or wait until my period stops? Or is it a bit trial and error and see what happens?

    So I’ve been testing for months and it has just occurred to me that you don’t have to hold the test and pay until the whole entire thing is full it doesn’t affect it I’m still getting readings it’s not reading that it’s broken or miss used or whatever but I’m just curious if that affects it

    So my daughter is struggling to get pregnant and I got her the digital prediction test that shows the blank the smile face and the happy for peak. She tested the first day 5 days before she should have ovulated and got the blank the next day she got the smile it's been 6 days and every day it's been the same smile. Is she not getting the LH surge?
