  • Today we tackle the quarter windows on the GTO. We will be converting the manual crank windows to power windows which should work on most GM A Body cars of this era. The conversion isn't as difficult as the door glass power window conversion but it does follow a lot of the same steps.
    This should work on: Chevelle, GTO, El Camino, Tempest, Lemans, Cutlass, Skylark, 442 and other models with similar bodies.
    Here is the link to the previous video I did on the door glass: • DIY Power Windows - G...
    Here are the links for everything I used for the conversion.

    I will be doing this next year, thank you Mark for leading the way. I'm still working on my Vintage Air install, which has now turned into a full wiring job. But thanks to you, I was able to cut the factory AC dash vents in.

      Funny how that happens isn't it? You have the hard part over with and at least 4 months before you need A/C. Looks like it is coming along nicely, you are going to love it this summer!

    Very nice work Mark. I paid $500 for the kit on my 53 3100. Thank you for your time.

      That sounds about right for power window kits that are worth anything. Power windows will be nice along with the A/C you are installing.

      I know an executive in the glass manufacturing business that is making me armored acoustic glass for the windshield because of the blower and standard acoustic glass for the rest of the truck.@@FoothillPaintandFabrication

      You are welcome. I am pretty sure but not positive the 68 and 70 used the same pitch on the sector gear as the 67. Let me know how it all works out for you.

      Lots of head scratching and figuring until it came to me to switch sides and invert them. I still can't believe those factory holes were in the perfect spot. Sometimes things just work out.

    Pretty cool Mark! Definitely looked like your experience on the main windows paid off. Is that the real time speed the windows will move? Seems fast to me.

      Thanks Doug. Yes real time and it seemed fast to me as well. This of course was with no window wiper seals and blown out guide channels so I am thinking once all new stuff is in there it will slow down. If not since it is a DC motor I can always put a Buck converter at the motor to reduce the voltage slightly to slow the motor down a bit.

    I hope you know that the 1/4 window run channel they sell for a sedan makes the window fixed.

      @FoothillPaintandFabrication  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They sell both, fixed and operable. I ordered operable. Still on back order unfortunately.

      @@bradjohnston2102 Yeah their search isn't very good. They have recommended parts to me and when I searched for them they didn't come up. Search the part number and they do.
      I am calling tomorrow to ask about all my backordered parts.

    Would this work for a 1969 chevelle?

    • @FoothillPaintandFabrication
      @FoothillPaintandFabrication  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The GM A bodies all changed a lot on 1968 so I am not sure. GM didn't change many parts so they could use the same tooling if they could help it so there is a good chance it will work. The only way to know for sure is to buy one motor off Amazon and hold it up to the sector gear on your manual regulator and see if the teeth match as you roll it along. I am thinking it will match through.
