I gave up on plugins are starting making tools a long time ago because using native tools in the apps always give you more control. I've have a lot of people switch from Silver Efex to my B&W tools.
Damn I was watching this without realising it was uploaded like 13 hours ago, I just assumed youtube gave me the perfect B/W editing tips by consensus. Thank you so much, unbelievably helpful to a novice like me, too
nice presentation. Did you make a recent release to silver ? What i like in silver efex pro is the zone system and the color filter which works on a color and its complementary color at same time. amazing tool for pop clouds and dark sky... I don't know why LRC doesn't have color filter, added to color sliders (called sensibility in sep by memory). ON1 has both features too.
SFX is good. But the color filter in the end is really the same as these sliders. You just have to open a separate plugin. I'm always updating Silver I think the last update was a month or so ago. Try the free pack on the Silver page. For Zones I go to Lumist in PS which is more powerful than SilverFX and Luma masking due to the Live zone system we built in it. Check out the videos on my site because it's really good.
I would always prefer a preset in post as in camera is a lot harder to refine. But depending on the camera you probably could apply this idea a little in custom color setting but not to this extent.
This is fantastic, Gav! Really wonderful insights and advice. Question: in Capture One we don't have an orange slider. Do you recommend adjusting reds, yellows, or both in that case? Thanks!
Thanks. You can always add an advanced color for any range. That said I have noticed this on some edits where the orange is missing. if you reset the image the orange actually returns. But if you are having an issue just use advanced color.
I must say I'm enjoying your detailed explanations and much appreciate the knowledge sharing as they are very useful.
Thanks and much appreciated!
Thank you
Great tip; I’ve been using your previous tip about pulling the greens and, boy, does it help!
For my B&W work, I’ve used Silver Efex for ages.

Is there a way to do this in camera...so that it becomes a SOOC thing instead of post editting?
I have a Sony A7III....
