These guys were probably the most famous of the Christian metal bands. Unfortunately, they took a lot of crap from both ends because they got it both from metal fans who felt they couldn’t be heavy metal because they were believers and believers who felt that they couldn’t be believers because they were heavy metal band. I think they could’ve been a lot bigger than they were if they hadn’t been the centre of so much controversy that was probably undeserved. I think they’re still around actually.
Agreed. I've known Metalheads who REFUSED to listen to Stryper because they were Christian. Others would sheepishly admit that they liked them. I'm not a Christian, so I don't care about any of that. I just like their sound.

YES! I've been asking for Stryper for 2 years now. I am so blessed that you guys finally reacted to them, and even more blessed that you enjoyed my brothers. They have a great and large library of music, as well as their lead singer Michael Sweet who did a few solo albums. His brother Robert Sweet is on the drums and is known for setting his drum kit up sideways to the audience, so they can see everything. You need to check out some of their music videos that show everything.
Thank you for listening to Stryper! Michael Sweet is singer and one of two guitar players, Oz Fox being other. Robert Sweet his brother is drummer. So many more suggestions for you to watch on video so you can see them perform. Transgressor, Do Unto Others, Pride are some of their really good ones. Appreciate you guys giving Stryper a chance. One of the best rock bands from the 80s and they are still touring today!
Michael Sweet has the vocal range of Mariah Carey and has the guitar chops of any of the best of the Van Halen disciples on the Sunset Strip at the time....and was still only the 2nd best guitar player in the band. Truly an underrated frontman and band.
Don’t forget Michael Sweet also plays guitar and is just as good at guitar as he is a singer. The duel guitar solos with Oz Fox in the song Soldiers Under Command is one the best solos I’ve ever heard in 80’s hair metal! 🎸 🎸 🤘
Finally!! Great first song choice for Stryper. They were huge in the 80's. I saw them live twice in '85 and '87. Michael Sweet is the lead singer/co-lead guitarist, his brother Robert Sweet on drums. Michael Sweet actually sang for the band Boston after Brad Delp died. Lots more songs to go, many off this album. "Free", "Calling On You", "Keep The FIre Burning", a great ballad called "Together As One". "Always There For You", "A Love That's Real", "Honesty", "Soldiers Under Command", "Holding On". Thank you Rob Squad!!
@@dccraig03 - Yeah, I've been hoping to see them live again in their later years. They're still rockin. I remember the harmonies from "It's Up 2 U" was incredible live!
They really weren’t huge in the 80s. Perhaps I. Your neck of the woods and in certain Christian circles, but barely anyone has heard of them outside of backwater US.

They were on MTV's daily Dial MTV top 10 most requested videos every day for a year and a half in 86-87, with this song, Calling On You, Free, Honestly,, on top of getting lots of regular MTV and radio play. When your on top 10 most requested on MTV for a year and a half. that's huge.

They come from California and was formerly known as Roxx Regime. They are still rocking to this day with a new album almost every year or so. they've since ditched the yellow and black leather but back in the day, no other hair band committed to a color scheme like the boys of stryper did. it was awesome. 😄
This band was seriously underrated imo...they rocked 🔥 people either didn't like them because they were a Christian rock band or because they were ignorant and thought they were devil worshippers...you definitely should check out more from them!!
Michael Sweet sings and his brother Robert is on drums. They still play, we've seen them several times. They have a "new" bass player for 5 years now, Perry Richardson of Firehouse fame. They rock even harder now and still sing for the Lord!
The single greatest Stryper song " Yahweh" if you could pick only one shows not just how hard they can play, but Michael Sweets' voice is off the charts. They are also in their late 40s when this song came out, and this band had evolved into perfection. Michael's voice is way better than his early years if that was even possible, which is just sick. Shattering glass and holding long, high-pitched notes. Check it out, I promise it will floor you!!!!
After the lead singer of Boston passed away they brought Micheal sweet ( Stryper's singer/ guitarist) on tour to fill in... That's high praise right there!
Of all the eighties bands, Stryper is the one that has "matured" the best. They are still going on and they are as good as ever. Apart from Stryper, Michael Sweet is awesome, a man that never sleeps, he is always involved in musical projects, being his band, solo, with other artists ......what energy !!!!
This song had some incredible guitar work in it. It was strange with Christian rock, but they got their message out within their lyrics. Glad ya'll enjoyed it!
Before their first album, the singer from Stryper and I took voice lessons from the same teacher- Thomas Appelle- and he had the hour right before me. I heard him sing those songs so many times that, by the time the record came out, it felt like I had played on it. That was 40 years ago.
Michael Sweet lead vocals and guitar, Robert Sweet drums, Oz Fox lead guitar, Timothy Gaines bass guitar. The most underrated band from the 80s. Robert is one of the best drummers out there. THWTD is one of the songs that got a big amount of play on MTV back in the day. "In God We Trust" got a lot as well. Saw them in concert a couple of times before covid hit and they are still rocking better than most from that era. Thank you for this great reaction. You just can't beat a good Stryper song. 🎶🎸🎸🎸💯
I saw them perform in Duluth minnesota in 1985. Still have my Stryper Bible, signed by all four band members, at an after show party. My brother was in a band and later a concert promoter, he brought them to perform in a small venue.
The Yellow and Black Attack!!!! Righteous!!!! Stryper has many great songs from back in the day like "Soldiers Under Command", "Always There For You", "The Writings on the Wall", and many more. Let's get dome more Stryper!!!
Stryper is still producing music and touring. They are great. I saw them at Bratfest in Madison Wisconsin in 2018! They were very loud, precise, and played 21 songs outside in 94° heat. It was a perfect metal show.
Such a trip to hear you react to Stryper! :D Takes me right back to high school :) If you’re looking for another rocker, I’d probably have to say “Free” or “Soldiers Under Command”. If you’re looking for something a little softer, I’d say “First Love”, “Honestly”, or “Always There for You”. My brother liked their harder songs, I liked their softer ones.
One of my good childhood friends, Starri, married the drummer Robert. Michael, the singer, and Robert Sweet are brothers. I remember when they started years before Starri met Robert. I was in middle school and was surprised that Stryper went mainstream, and are still rocking today :) Robert and Starri have a beautiful family, and they are grandparents 🥰
I have loved Stryper since the Mid eighties and they are still going strong. Michael Sweet is the lead singer and he is well known for his high pitched screams! His brother Robert, is the drummer.
The singer is the GREAT Micheal Sweet his older brother Robert is the amazing drummer. I grew up on this band in the 80s. Ive seen them live 11 times. They are IMMENSELY talented
Michael spent five years (2007-2011) trying to be the replacement vocalist for Boston (Brad Delp quit and then sadly committed suicide in 2009), but it doesn't seem to have fit for either fan base.
Michael Sweet is perhaps one of the if not the most overlooked vocalist, especially in his prime. His "screams" were pretty much unmatched, even today. The drummer is Robert Sweet.
YES! FINALLY!! my boys from the yellow and black attack!! Thank you so much for this! So many great songs I don't know where to start!! Started in ' 84 and still Killin it these days!! I'll be here for any Stryper you do!!! Just pick some official video and do it! No more hell to pay, the valley, free, transgressor, they even did a cover of shining star by earth wind and fire!! Stryper is still rockin' today. I saw them in Houston a few months ago. They were touring with Vixen. Another great 80's metal band...an all female metal band.
man, I'm not a christian guy but this group is amazing. The musicianship is pro! Michael Sweet, the singer, is incredible and still always working! This song is good, but FAR from their best, you have SO MUCH more to discover!
I love it that you like them even though you're not Christian. The music is spectacular and the music they do at the very least holds positivity without being too preachy. I think that's what they were going for. I saw em live a lot in the day. It was clear that Michael Sweet was the man behind the band. But his brother on the drums... well... A BEAST!!!
I saw Stryper at a M3 concert a 80s metal band event Friday and Saturday event they were amazing they threw bibles to the crowd too ,which was cool. And I got my photo taken with them I got a few photos actually they are super talented and super nice guys. Michael Sweet MC quite a few rock events . This was a few years ago they still rocked out very well. Great reaction as always . Love light and smiles 🙏🤗❤️
You should go through these comments because often Michael Sweet will actually post a reply. He is the lead singer of Stryper and is active on TH-cam. BTW, Stryper was the most played band on MTV for like 3 straight years in the late 80s into the early 90s. They are still active today. They have actually released more albums from 2006 to today than they did from 1983 to 1996.
Finally!!! You need to listen to the live versions. Michael Sweet is the lead singer. He actually was the lead singer for Boston for a little while. Their harmonies are under appreciated, which is no surprise as they were underrated as a band by both Christians and non-Christians. Thanks for listening, I knew that you’d dig them.
As many others will tell you, Stryper has SO MUCH to choose from when it comes to a "what's next" choice. They have spanned Heavy Metal, to Pop rock, to love ballads, to hard rock, and even dabbled in speed metal on occasion. That being said Stryper now has 40 years worth of albums to select from but since you started with "classic" Stryper, based on that, the next song I would recommend you to check out would be "Soldiers Under Command". This hit came out before the To Hell With The Devil album and it was once Soldiers Under Command was released that the music industry really took notice and Stryper started selling out all the venues they were playing at along the Hollywood strip and started getting booked at arenas. Soldiers Under Command laid the groundwork for what Stryper would do with their ne next album, To Hell With The Devil. Unfortunately many of the uploads to TH-cam of Stryper songs are low quality so look for the version "STRYPER - Soldiers under command [Official Music Video] HQ".
Man, you two keep bringing up my past with your reaction videos 😂. In the 80s, I went to school (7th thru 12th grade) with a Christian metal head and this was her band. She wore her black & yellow Stryper concert shirts proudly 🤘🙏🏻. This Philadelphia Eagles fan is very sorry to hear about your QB. A total bummer for sure ☹️. Nice review and GO BIRDS 💚🦅🏈
I'm Christian, but never followed Christian Rock Bands. But this is very energetic and hard Rock! :) Great Choice, Guys... and Great Reaction! :) PS- Killer Guitar!
Great band and great music. They are still making new albums today.teir newest album came out about a year ago. Check out the classics but please listen to the newer stuff it's better now while still retaining the classic sound.
I have been a fan of Stryper since the beginning, and love their classic tunes, but to me the new stuff is so much better and deeper lyrically. And Michael still sounds just as good today as back then, just can't hit the high notes as much live anymore. But still sounds amazing!
Love that you not only gave Stryper a listen, but that you enjoyed it. Torn between what to recommend next…”Honestly” the big ballad, “Calling On You” the rock hit, or one of their latest from last year that will blow you away: “Transgressor”!
Great album! As a Christian I’ve always thought that Christian Rock/Metal just makes Christian music and Rock/Metal music worse. Stryper is an exception though and a great band.
Michael Sweet is such an underrated singer. Even today he can still wail it out compared to other rock singers from his time. I love these guys; good music, great musicians, powerful message. Highly recommend "Reach Out", "Makes Me Wanna Sing", and "Sing Along Song". Honorable mention "Battle Hymn of the Republic".

Stryper began in 1983, broke up in 1993 and got back together in 2003. They have been together ever since. The singer and drummer are brothers. Here the very best songs of Stryper, and be prepared to be blown away again: 1. Transgressor 2. Rise To The Call 3. Ashes To Ashes 4. Blood From Above 5. Divider 6. Yahweh 7. Fallen 8. Marching Into Battle 9. Water Into Wine 10. Rock The Hell Out of You 11. Not That Kind of Guy 12. The Reign 13. The Writings on the Wall 14. In God We Trust 15. The Way 16. More Than A Man 17. The Rock That Makes Me Roll 18. Surrender 19. Mercy Over Blame
They are still rockin it today. Their last 4 albums are arguably the best music they've made. An 80s band still making music now is a feat--to have it actually be GOOD is remarkable. To STILL be making GREAT music is UNREAL!
To Me nothing could ever top soldiers under command, or to hell with the devil, but , yes, they are still making great 🎵🎶 , and touring! And sounding great, unlike bands like motley Crue 😢
1986…. I remember coming home from school every day and turning to MTV (back when they still played music videos) to watch Dial MTV to see where on the chart the video to this song was. Ahh… those were the days.
Stryper is a Christian rock band and because of that they were often never given the credit that they deserve as a bad ass rock group. They have some beautiful ballads, but when they crank up the guitars and drums they are as hard as any other great rock band. I think they are one of the finest Power Metal bands ever. Thanks for listening to them, they were one of my favorite bands from the 80s.
The "To Hell with the Devil" tour in Kansas City 1987 was my first real concert. LOUD!!!!! I was in 10th Grade and huge fan. They were really the first 'Christian' metal band. These guys grew up in the LA and Hollywood area playing early shows with Ratt and Motley Crue on the Sunset Strip. They fit right in with the style, the hair, the clothes, the music...but they got crap from Christians who said it was the devil's music, and non-Christians gave them crap because the lyrics weren't all about sex, drugs, rock-n-roll of the day. Their influences were Van Halen, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, and Led Zeppelin and it shows.
YES!!! Stryper is in my personal all-time Top 10 Rock/Metal bands. I grew up in the city next door to the city that the Sweet brothers grew up in. I have been a fan and followed them since their Roxx Regime days. I have seen them live so many times through the years that I cannot count. They continue to produce great albums that rival their early years and still put on amazing shows. I hope you continue to seek out songs from them from the early years through current. Their song "YAHWEH" is brilliant!
Stryper is a great band. I had their album "The yellow and black attack " I'm not a Christian but I am all about rock and roll. These guys ROCK.

MORE STRYPER! 'Soldiers Under Command'...'The Way'...'More Than A Man'...'Rockin' The World'...'Surrender'
OMG!!!! FINALLY!!!! I’ve been asking for Stryper for months!!!! THANK YOU GUYS!!!
These were some very very talented people no matter what kinda music you like .
man, I'm not a christian guy but this group is amazing.
But his brother on the drums... well... A BEAST!!!
One of my favorites from back in the day. "Soldiers Under Command" is their best rocking one by far!!
Stryper is still rocking. Sounding better than ever. Try "Do Unto Others" or Transgressor"
the singer is Michael Sweet and the drummer is his brother Robert Sweet
I saw these guys in New Orleans in 1986 they were phenomenal I love these guys
Check out Stryper's big 90s MTV massive anthem song "Honestly"
Watch In God We Trust live 1989 Japan. Michael Sweets vocals will leave you jawdropped
You gotta hear HONESTLY. That song ended up in the top 10 on the top 40 in the 80's. They took alot of heat because of their Christian message.
You won't be lonely is my favorite.
Couple good songs on their Christmas album too.
Last 5 albums are very heavy. Great band.
"BUFFALO STANCE"
by neneh cherry❤❤
thank you
AMBER/JORDAN🎉
Michael Sweet On Vocals, His Brother Robert Sweet On Drums, Oz Fox On Bass, and Timothy Gaines On Lead Guitar.
I'm Christian, but never followed Christian Rock Bands. But this is very energetic and hard Rock! :) Great Choice, Guys... and Great Reaction! :) PS- Killer Guitar!
Michael Sweet, the lead singer, was one of my favorite interviews, I've done. He prayed with me before & after the interview. Incredible person.
Their other big hit was Honesty. There is a great genre of Christian music you guys haven't tapped into yet.
White cross is another great band.
HonestLY....correction is needed to look up video.
I grew up listening to Stryper and still do to this day. Saw them live numerous times in Beaumont Texas.
Great band and great music. They are still making new albums today.teir newest album came out about a year ago. Check out the classics but please listen to the newer stuff it's better now while still retaining the classic sound.
You guys should react to sing along song
I have been a fan of Stryper since the beginning, and love their classic tunes, but to me the new stuff is so much better and deeper lyrically. And Michael still sounds just as good today as back then, just can't hit the high notes as much live anymore. But still sounds amazing!
Love the new stuff. Transgressor and Do Into Others are such great songs
The singer is Michael Sweet. He's very handsome too. Dark hair, blue eyes =)
I ain't religious, but I played the crap out of this "cassette" when I was 14 🤘🤘🤘
They have a power ballad called “Honestly” that both of you would love
Have you done a reaction their song Honestly yet?
Love that you not only gave Stryper a listen, but that you enjoyed it. Torn between what to recommend next…”Honestly” the big ballad, “Calling On You” the rock hit, or one of their latest from last year that will blow you away: “Transgressor”!
Great album! As a Christian I’ve always thought that Christian Rock/Metal just makes Christian music and Rock/Metal music worse. Stryper is an exception though and a great band.
Barnabas, Resurrection Band and Petra just a few other great Christian rock bands from back in the day!
Saw them earlier this year and Michael Sweet can still sing like that about 40 years later
Metallica opened for THEM back in the day!
****Hit songs by STRYPER... Always there for You... Calling On You... Honestly... In God We Trust!... FREE... More than a Man... MUST WATCH THE VIDEOS!!!!! Look for remastered HD versions****
Yes, "Calling On You." should be next
@@Robsan40 I still rock that one.....Stryper was Amazing.......

Michael Sweet is the greatest screamer in Rock n roll history. There is a video compilation on YT that will blow your mind
1986…. I remember coming home from school every day and turning to MTV (back when they still played music videos) to watch Dial MTV to see where on the chart the video to this song was. Ahh… those were the days.
Incredibly talented band...love them...have for years!! Great reaction!
A very underrated band that is still Rocking and Very talented.
FINALLY You guys are playing Stryper!!
Next one has got to be “Free.”
