How To Make Slow Burning Fuses

  • For this project I used items from around the house to create a pyrotechnic time-delay. Here's how to make a simple form of a slow burning fuse, because when experimenting with homemade pyrotechnics, you don't want to be too close if your composition explodes.
Some quick links to a few of the materials I used:
    [✓] Spectricide stump remover: amzn.to/2cXdmMn
    [✓] Sugar: amzn.to/2ctLMFm
    [✓] Cookie Tray: amzn.to/2c8YNFp
    [✓] Fire Extinguisher: amzn.to/2cd14Ox

    • Kno3 and Sugar Paper Fuse
    Project History & More Info:
Similar to the recipes I tried for rocket fuel and smoke flares in previous videos, I'm using a 60/40 mix of KNO3 and white table sugar by weight. This time I'm making a 60 gram batch, adding it to boiling water, and stirring it in until it all dissolves.
Fuses were homemade by soaking 12 feet of 100% cotton yarn in the solution as the rest of the water evaporated out, then placed on a cookie sheet and baked in an oven at 300ºF for 20 minutes.
These types of devices may not be legal to make or use in your area, so check local laws before attempting to duplicate this project, and as always, be safe and aware of your environment before igniting anything flammable!

Yes. I did a test where I sealed a batch in an air-tight bag, and left a few outside the bag. After a month, the fuses exposed to the air would hardly light, and didn't work very well. They can be made useful again by putting back in the oven at about 300-330F for 20 minutes.
The ones sealed in the bag were nearly as good as they were when I made them a month prior.
    Thanks for asking!

We built a test stand together, similar to the Raptor tripod at McGregor, that can be converted to a launch pad. So when we're satisfied with engine performance, the Randomizer will be our next project! The TKOR legacy lives on....🤟

I tried this on a very thick rope and it didn't work. So I tried it on a thin rope and it was much better, but still, the flame dissapeared after 5 seconds. So I looked on a pyrotehnic forum and I found out how to make the slow-burning fuse faster, better, easier and safer to make (and even without cooking!). And this one really works !!!
First, mix 60% of potassium nitrate and 40% of sugar. Then stir well and took a large piece of alu-foil. Cut the alu-foil into 3cm x 10cm rectangles (or more/less, as you wish). Then, just take the spoon and sprinkle the mixture evenly along the rectangle. Then roll the rectangle so your mixture can't go out and make a fuse shape. Then, fold the both edges, so the mixture won't go out.
Then, put your fuse around 2 or more centimeters deep into a thing you want to burn with a fuse and cut off the edge where you wish to burn the fuse (when you cut it off, you have to see your mixture inside). Then, just use the lighter on this edge and wait until the fuse burns.
GOOD LUCK AND I HOPE THAT YOU FIND THIS AS USEFUL !!!

Ok, there is the link of the page where is written, how to make what I translated and how to create other slow burning fuses and even how to make an electrical detonator,...:
      old.piroraj.org/vzig.html
But the link of the main page of the whole pyro site, where is written, how to make many explosives, including some of the most powerful in the world (TNT, RDX), slow burnung fuses, rockets, detonators, bombs, funny chemicals (smile gas, stinky gas), properties of chemicals required, where to get them or how to make them at home, etc. is
      old.piroraj.org/index.html
The whole page is in slovenian, so you probably won' t understeand it as I do, so try to use some online translators and hope for the best results, because this is a very useful site.

Yeah it does. Saltpeter is an oxidizer, and as long as it doesn't fall apart in the water, (i.e mixed into a string so it doesnt dissolve) it will burn. Thats why some fuses burn underwater.
