Drop stance is lying tiger stance in other translations, i am still learning but my partner bought me a book of character translations, each one is made up of pictures, each of them a story or theme. I. E Qi is of the emptiness, rice, and steam... Probably to signal qi coming from nothing, feeding us and returning to nothing. Its a very fortunate coincidence that heat transfer is the basis of entropy, and the only reason why we have one (only one) equation out of all the basic equations for astrophysics that registers time. (3rd law of entropy)... These characters are incredibly lost in translation because they end up so detailed, the understanding of them ends up relative to that person in a bigger way than labels.
Mishra i’d make sure what shaolin kung fu basics are. I was thinking that shaolin was sth out of this world there were no technique DVDs and i was lacking materials.
My massage teacher, who was also a military nurse, taught us how to utilize Horse and Bow stance during my massage sessions. It has granted me perfect body mechanics and greater strength throughout the years.
I am so glad to find this wonderful video clip. “My Qigong workout for longevity” book has just arrived. Together, it makes perfect training for the 5 stances. Thank you very much, Shifu Yan Lei 🙏💕
I came here to check if our feet should be parallel in horse stance. I see happily that you don't make it parallel. I think that's the best for knees: feet should always align with the knee. Making them parallel would create bad strain on the knees. Sadly many people think feet must be parallel...
Great video! I'm studying traditional Shaolin in Colorado and your teaching is incredible, plus your flexibility. Please create more studio style workouts, patterns, forms etc. Would love to see Pakua or Animal styles.
Excellent tutorial, Thank you Shifu YYan Lei! As a Former Karate instructor, the Bow and arrow stance in Japanesew karate is shoulder wide. To my experience, as a European , less flexibly built person, the shoulder width is a minimum to achieve both our body turn and keep straight left or right, without tension and imperfection in hips. Best regards. Paul, 67,
Hi Uriel I have a question∶ when one purchases from Udemy (link above) does it come in the mail? OR is it downloaded to youtube? I visited the link above but it does not say which format (DVD, download, etc). Peace. Eric
I do fire rope dart so I am in some regards an actual fire bender. I def need to incorporate some of this into my art. It's funny tho because I have always dabbled in martial arts but pretty much all I use my fire for is dance.
I believe it’s a lot of leg and psoas strengthening, as well as “greasing the groove” through many repetitions to improve strength in a wide range of motions ie. mobility training. The second stance is great for the psoas, an inner core muscle group, which are essential for proper posture and efficient walking, although make sure if you’re training them that you stretch them as well. It’s also good for martial arts, soldiers trained in this way walk efficiently and can express strength in a wide range of motion with a low risk of injury.
I have a question about feet position in horse stance. I different videos the position of feet is straight and yours is little bit outside. Why is that ? Is this make any difference?
Thank you brother Orion are there any vids here with shifu or any other monks and or(other sifus) doing modified positioning for these stances here, it would be great if you could provide a few links.
Steven Sanders you can modify the positions yourself, if you aren't close to a qualified teacher. Get as close as you can to the masters form... he has videos you can purchase from his website. If your health issues are severe, you may want to train in something less vigorous.

I like how you emphasize the breath.
How can you attack from all these stances or are they mostly awarenesses in the extreme range?
what is the purpose of a stance?
Develop chi, footwork, leg development. It could take years to develop the whole sequence it’s a work out.
That squatting stance, with my bad knees all I can do of Wu Bu Quan is a little drop in posture.
Gracias
