I like the deck over the rail design on this. I have a client wanting the same on a deck to go all the way around the pool. Couldnt figure out the right wat to do it and still be able to access the railing for liner changeout. I'm going use this idea to build a similar design that allows the liner installer to drop the band boards around the pool and access the rails for liner changeout. Nice work!
I like how you cut the 6x6 out in the back to support your 2x10 joist where the 2x10s move towards the deck. In the front by the pool, how did you secure those 2 x10s that are resting in the support beam by the pool area where the 2x4s are sister joist for the over hang? Or is the weight of the platform enough?
You used to be able to ‘toe nail’ the joists to the beam. That’s honestly probably fine. But Now a metal connector is required. I used ‘hurricane ties’
Thanks for the prior reply Tom. Your video is super helpful and I love the style that lips over the pool instead of under the caps. One more question…. I am digging my holes out Monday. How close did you dig you holes out to the pool? I’m using 6x6 post I believe like you did. I’m going to do the 4” concrete pad like you did. Dig my hole to 12 inch diameter and I was going to have the edge of the diameter 12” from my pools metal wall.
The joists can cantilever past the beam one quarter of their length….. I think my mine were 2 ft away. If yours are only 1 ft away you should be fine……. But it might be tight trying to reach up and sneak a cover over the rail……18 inches would be better if you could manage 😬
To clarify. Your 6x6 was 2 feet away from pool wall or 2 feet away OC for the 6x6 post. My township is saying for a 6x6 post I need to dig 3x the post size. 18 inches round. Not just 12? I am going to move my post to 18 inches back from the closest edge of post to pool wall. That sound about right?
Hello yes I love your video on how to build a deck which i will due first. What is your pool size i need a oval pool like yours, yours seems to be large enough for me
Nice work. Thanks for sharing. Quick question on the footing, instead of filling up with dirt could you just fill up with cement as well, I assume even more strong ?
Concrete around the post will rot the wood faster…… it traps moisture. A better option is to backfill with clean gravel. If you are an overachiever, you could fill the hole up with concrete instead.
Great build. Wondering if you dug holes for post nearest pool. Asking because I have bonding wire running underneath stones with the exact set up you have
Did you have any concerns digging that close to the pool? I’m about to dig in clay soil but the thought of a collapsed hole 20in from the wall has me questioning if i should drain the pool down.
I have a islander pool from Secard pools that comes out 18 inches of the ground on wood frame. I want to do a concrete deck, will the wooden frame be strong enough to hold the concrete
About an inch and a half for the cover……I notched the joists 3 inches above the pool rail , that leaves enough room if I ever have to replace the liner
No…. It’s just 4x4’s every 4 ft apart. I used 2x6’s for the ‘wall’. Back filled the bottom with pea gravel and drain tile. Easy in theory , just lots of earth to move 😬
oh, gotcha......no. 42 inch hole, 4 inches of concrete on the bottom, then the 6x6 post rests on top of the concrete and it extends up past the grade. Then backfill the remaining space with dirt / gravel
The spindles I just got from amazon, they are aluminum. They aren't the strongest but they work for a pool. Here is a link amzn.to/3SVVWS1 The lock came with the safety hinges. Here is the combo amzn.to/3V7jOEG. I did a boring video about the safety gate that you can check out, there are a lot of safety parameters a pool gate has to meet.....good luck!!

Great job!! You are a skilled builder. Keep them corded tools. Real men use corded tools!! 😂😂
Thank you! Lol, I like the ‘real men used corded tools’ motto!

Nice job I feel like I could build a deck next to an above ground pool
Great build!!
Thanks for watching!
Nice job😃🙌🏼 Thanks for sharing this. 😃👍🏼

Hey Randall, I did dig footings there too…… I had to find the bonding wire (it was buried) and make sure that the posts did not interfere

Buikding a deck in crocs is the only way to build a deck 😂. Nice job man
Agreed!! Slow and steady 😬
Really nice job! How much was the materials
@@Darlene528 it was a few years ago, but I think the framing materials was around 1000 and another 1000-1500 or so for the composite and door hardware

Hello, that sounds like a cool option, but concrete is sooo heavy, you would need some kind of beefed up wood frame to support that!!!
beautiful
Why thank you!
How much room did you leave for the pool cover ? I like the way you have it hanging over the pool wall

Hello, great video. What size is your pool?
Thanks! She's 14 x 32. It fills up fast with little ones........should have gone bigger!
So you only put 4" of concrete and then filled the remaining 38" with dirt?
Yes sir.......the post just 'stand' on the 4 " concrete footing, then you backfill with dirt......gravel is better. Pole barns are also built this way
