Absolutely brilliant Tim thanks for sharing. However I'm not quite ready to take anything on like this yet but enjoy seeing how its supposed to be done. Great video atb Andy
Thanks Andy, don't forget you can adopt this method on a whole host of items not only rolling stock. I just choose a high end model to practice and demonstrate on lol
A superb piece of painting and weathering Tim, some great tips and techniques, thanks for sharing. I have taken note of some of them. All the best. Brian @ The Angels
Thanks Kev. It's a great method to practice. It's not limited to fade effects it can also be done exactly the same with heavy dirt effects on wagons using upto 4 shades of brown, I did just that on those cargowaggon vans I posted out in Facebook a few months back. Good luck and don't forget to post any results on a few groups.
I have been getting the paints you mention in your videos so I can replicate the process and now have a nice collection. I also like the videos from Bunters Yard so I will soon be having a go . And yes I will post results good or bad 😂😂
You are a talented man tim I really do enjoy listening to your how too's I might be brave enough to have a go when I've got my spray booth set up and working.
Another inspirational video. Thanks for taking the time to make and upload these. We keep trying them out but are a good couple of years of practice behind, in terms of our ability to reach the same finish. haha Looking forward to Part 3!
Hi good evening, just stumbled upon your channel, your weathering techniques are amazing.Especially the faded br blue,I've been looking to do this for a long time, as I have lots of old lima oo 37s and 47s that would look great on the scrap line. Is there a way in which I can create the faded paint look without having to respray 20 locos? If you could reply to me telling me the paints I require I would really appreciate it many thanks IAN RANKIN 🙏.
Thanks. Yep the effect can be created using enamel paints as a semi dry brush stipple effect. Have a look at videos which show the tta tank wagons and the Dutch class 37 as the fade effects are done differently to what's shown here.
Brilliant result Tim it is really coming together nicely. And i have one question what would be the best ratio of paint to thinner for creating this kind of effect?. Really great effort mate.- Nicholas.
Thanks. The vallejo air is ready to go from the bottle. If using a normal paint then I aim for something that's between single cream and full fat milk.
Thanks Tim looking forward to part 3 👍
Thanks Kev. Faded effects always look odd without anything else added and the next part will see it all come together.
Wow Tim this looks really splendid
Fantastic. Thank you for sharing your technique!
excellent as usual chum, great effects, Paul at Sandling Junction
Absolutely amazing 👏 Very inspirational - certainly going to give this a try this winter.
That is brilliant work Tim.
I've tried my hand at this, but your just the master, I bow down to you sir.
Cheers chap. All good simple methods as you know with your latest attempts.

Thanks Brian.
Glad they've given you some ideas.
I love this Tim and will have a go on a box van first to see how I get on.
Cheers Kev

Cheers chaps. Keep at it, I must give that rust stuff you guys showed a few videos ago. Loved the results of that!
Can’t wait to have a go myself
Super stuff
Great video! I am new to using an airbrush.
Can you tell me what parts paint to thinner you should use and how you control the spray pressure?
Fantastic work as ever Tim. Can't wait for the next video :) BTW, what air bush and compressor do you use?
Thanks. The airbrush is a Hansa 281 made by Harder and Steenbeck and my compressor is a Timbertech.
Are you using acrylic or lacquer based paint??? Really like your technique for fading paint. Cheers from eastern Tennessee
Acrylic paints. Cheers
