As a former wrestler of 8 years I agree with this. One overlooked advantage of wrestling however is not taking people down, but not easily being taken down. A good wrestler is hard to takedown so we can fight until there's an opportunity for escspe. So a decent wrestler with basic punch knowledge has a good chance.

Thank you bro I see so many comments of just walk away lmao. I’m a boxer just started bjj and I use to be that guy that says avoid street fights. And I still am but my mind changed December last year I went to the bar with my friends to enjoy drinks my friend offered me a shot I didn’t want it so offered some guy next to me if he wanted it his drunk A*s thought I said some else he became aggressive I tried to de escalate the situation but he was being aggressive and he started following me to my group and throwing his hands up so we went out side and my boxing did me works. But I realized I need ground game I’m on my second week of Bjj and to y’all who gonna say yea right this didn’t happen i don’t really care to prove yall anything. But just saying guys running away isn’t always the option learn how to defend yourself the right way.

In my opinion, don’t limit yourself to just one style. Adaptability is a very powerful ally, especially if your opponent is not your average person and has experience fighting or is trained in a style as well. Don’t just learn a striking style, learn some grappling and submission techniques as well. Being able to pull something out of thin air for every situation is very useful.

Time is the main problem here though. Your average person will do well to consistently make 2 sessions a week. 3-4 a week would probably be just about doable for most people if they really love it. Although the one positive to this is that you have your whole life to learn this. Maybe start young with the standup grappling so judo or wrestling with a bit of bjj. Then as you get older ditch the wrestling or judo for some boxing or Muay Thai.

I boxed as an amatuer for years, boxing just like all mentioned in the video is a sport, on the street there are no rules, no bell and no referee, sport although helping build fitness and discipline aswell as teaching essential skills will not help you in any way shape or form if your surrounded for example by multiple people with weapons, from my experience traditional martial arts is best suited for self defense in such a situation, that being said running is always the best option (live to fight another day)

So if you are not experienced in the realities of Combat, then I would suggest you start to be involved in the realities of fighting system that works against oppositions in the gym before you go out thinking what you have learned is going to be effective in combat where you have multiple persons ATTACKING...

A combination of BJJ, in particular Gracie BJJ and Muay Thai. That is unless you can actually find somewhere that teaches real Lethwei instead of Muay Thai, if so then Lethwei.

A yeah boxing learn how to quickly KO your opponent in 6 to 12 rounds of raw frequently interrupted action, where almost nothing goes.
Works in 66% of the time every time.
Note: Most KOs are actually just TKOs, never fight people outside your wieght class, always carry your gloves with you, run when your opponent opens his fist

Judo i will guess the best for self defense. It teaches , balance, mobility, Explosiveness, and techniques. Judo stands is great to mix it with boxing or mauy thai. Judo throws are great for thowing a person and reminding standing. Getting hit on concrete in any judo throw is game endner. Also leg sweeps are great to sweep some 1 and runway while they are on the ground. U can also pin and submit a person after a throw. Bjj is also great but the ground is extremely dangerous on the streets. Wrestling is awsome for self defense.

I think the advantage of BJJ is that fights frequently do end up on the ground, especially when you’re dealing with untrained people. Knowing what to do once you’re there is extremely useful. BJJ should be a tool in your toolbox but not your entire kit.

Ive always had issue with the idea of not doing grappling coz you dont want to be on the ground. This makes absolute no sence coz while i agree being on the ground is bad you therfore need a stlye that teaches takedown defence, ie grappling. You dont learn that in striking.
