J - I bought my first boat. The floor was soft and the seats needed repair. I removed the seats, stands, etc, the deck floor, and lo and behold it is rotten all the way into the stringers. I was like, awwe man! How am I ever gonna do this alone. Your videos are a life saver! Thank you SO much! Cheryl
Oh man , it’s so awesome to see these videos. The work you do is so clean and perfect. I just bought a sea ray very cheap , I do not feel any soft spots yet , but I’m almost certain I’ll have some surprises. But not a problem, I got the boat because the work you do ! I was confident getting it , because now I know how to do it the right way . Thanks a ton man , I know these videos are almost a decade old but trust me , it still helps a lot of people. Stay safe
the way i do stringers in placement is make up a gype of resin mixed with chopped strand and microfill and fill area with gype where previous stringers were then drop in stringers then gype corners of stringers and hull at full length then immediately have Matt Roving Matt cut in 5-8 inch widths full lengh of stringers then glass the stringers in with that and roll out , then after there kicked of you can do a final glassing from hull up to deck on stringers , just my 2 cents.
What's your thoughts on Coosa Board. Ive got to do this project on a Stingray 235SS maxim that my 19 yea4 old son bought for $10k engine, interior and exterior are all nice. I knew this was going to need this work.
I am glad you rethought the fibre you were going to use and I think you are right, there is no need to make a Fort Knox out of the boat. That would be an anxiety based decision because of what you have gone through and seen with this hull.
Just a small correction. You said “My wife has these really cool cake icing dispensers” Should be “My wife “HAD" these really cool cake icing dispensers” At least I hope they didn’t find there way back to the kitchen :-) Made me chuckle. :-) I discovered your series of repair.. correction,, rebuild videos and they’ve been entertaining me all evening. Felt your pain at the beginning. We tend to move through life hoping that people we encounter are morally similar to ourselves, being reasonably trustworthy and generally they are, but occasionally we cross paths with those who have no conscience and are willing to ignore any ounce of morality they may have once possessed. Lets hope they meet a version of themselves one day. Enough said. On the positive side, I am full of admiration with the way you handled the situation, moved forward and although a great deal of work and without doubt, money, you managed to turn a negative situation into a positive. Im sure its going to the best Sea Ray in existance, or at least the strongest. Very impressive. Also very impressive, is the fact that somebody was ever able to find a wife so understanding and helpful in offering her kitchen equipment so readily. I believe she must be a keeper. :-) Now, just need to get back to the remainder of the series to hopefully see the fruits of your labour skim across a lake or sea and repay your toils with enjoyment. Thank you for taking the time to chronicle your endeavours, you deserve the strongest, best, Sea Ray, afloat and more.
Because foam ABSORBS water, no matter what they say on the package!! Water soaked foam starts the rotting if the wood. Also, who on Earth would want their boat to weigh hundred's of pounds more than what it should weigh!?;?

Damn, that's a good idea with the stringers, make sense now that I think about it..nice project by the way.
"What we're going to do is use the foam and - SQUIRREL!!" LOL - that is me all day.
Very very knowledgeable very good video I can start my project with confidence

nice little mockingbird tangent haha. good stuff, man. good ideas for my own boat project. cheers!
the "arch way" you refer is called a "limber hole", allowing bilge water to drain

Grtz from rhe Netherland ✌️
What do u think the cement does to the stringers ,it cements to the hull ,u had to sand the old resin off
The floor isn't free floating off the hull ,

Hello! Great informational videos, just what I needed. One question, did you put the spacers in between the stringers and transom?
What type of glue is everyone using for the stringers I’ve seen just about everyone using something different
What did you use for peanut butter
Hey Jay where is a good place to store a boat where I can also work on it..My driveway is in the front of my house so cant do it there. thanks
+Andrew Williams Thats the million dollar question. Some storage places allow it.
We are buying a 1998 190. The boat is in great condition but this scares me
love your vids! quick question, did you have to change the angle of the bottom of the stringer to match the angle of the hull beneath it?
@notiuqcumber
Thanks for the tip. I am going there today.
Even better. But at lease give us (me) a heads up.
I do not remember, but I do not think so. There was a tiny gap.
why didnt you put a full line of the foam under the stringers ? and did you put those under the bulkheads aswell ?
Because foam ABSORBS water, no matter what they say on the package!! Water soaked foam starts the rotting if the wood.
