    I couldn't help it.... There it was just sitting there. The Chimera 4 with the deadcat frame (that no one seems to do a review on), 1404~ 3800kv motors (which you suggested) and I added crossfire with the immortal T. My antenna is not the super long one that people typically use but I think it'll do the trick. I've been so interested in someone doing a review on this with this combination in a comparison to the flywoo but never found one. But I'm no where near the pilot it takes to call myself doing a review, lol. However, I will do my best to learn as I only have a few months experience with a tinyhawk 2 freestyle and went straight to this. I got 2, 4s 850 and 2 1050 batteries for it so I can put some work in. Wish me luck gentlemen.

    I bought it, and I am glad I took it! it flies well, and is more of a mini freestyle. but can go far, no worries. and after testing the Explorer.
    for the angle of the camera, they made another hole to make it more flat.
    also, for the round protector for the camera lens, you just have to push it down to the bottom ..;) and have nothing to see in the video feedback;)

    been flying a custom built 3" iflight DC3 Titan with Caddx vista for about 5 months - lots of mid range (3km+) mountain, forest , ocean flying, but low flight times with 850. The 4" deadcat version of the Chimera looks like a larger version of the DC3 - Just ordered this to convert to 4" props to extend flight times - IMHO proper long range needs some power - so 3800kv is great - smaller motors just wont get you home if its windy - better to have some gas in the tank and ability to push through

    We were doing this years ago, designed our own frames to be a 4inch atom with 1707, or 1806 motors 2500kv. So quiet, but we only had dal bull nose in 4inch. We would get 10 mins flight time with 850mah 4s and still had punch.
    Now with the new motors and better props will be sweet, I have a gecko 4inch with 2700kv tmotor 1507, vista. It’s a nice build on 4s and 3s

    Easy solution for the dji tpu mount. Cut 2 sides of the dji tpu mount (so it's not a full circle). This allows it to fit between the post and fit all the way on camera. then you don't see the circle in your FPV feed. It still provides protection for the dji cam vs having no tpu mount.

    I went to 3.5in Advan triblades to help deal with vibration issues of biblades. 3700kv on 3s is a fair cruising setup with 18650 VTC6 3s and 20minutes landing at 3.2 volts is easy. I dont fly below 2.8v when in the air due to voltage sag being very quick. 3v in the air you should be close to home, 2.8v and it is time to get on the ground but need to figure out how to land.
    Havent gone to 4s 18650 due to weight penalty. 4s lithium polymer works pretty well for acro on various 3.5in builds I have done.

    I thought the higher kv motors were so you can run lower voltage to get the weight under 250g while using high capacity Li-Ion. Like 2s 18650 packs. Not sure free style was a part of the conversation when those motors were put in the package. I didn’t read all the comments so I’m sure this is an echo. Thanks JB for all your help past and future

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      All I can say is, in all my conversations with iFlight in preparation for this review, that was never mentioned. Lower voltage does not mean lower weight. You can just use a higher voltage battery of the same watt-hours and the weight will be about the same.

    I like how the manufactures are 'Jumping on the train' but getting it wrong. 4 inch quads are supposed to be 3 inch quads with a larger prop, but they keep adding weight and TPU etc on and the performance of the quad suffers. Also motor size wise at least 16xx and above 3000kv.

    Cost of the DJI version being double is pretty significant here. DJI still hasn't met one of your 2018 predictions for HD being really practical, i.e. it still isn't affordable. Having the video system cost as much as the entire rest of the quad is a high price indeed, especially for a long range model that is more likely to be lost. Regardless I wish they had sent an analog model as vtx quality will be key on the analog version.

    People running the VTC6 cells shpuld realize that the constant current draw rating is more of a 15amp range. The 30amp rating should be considered more of a burst rating. Properly testing for amp draw and finding throttle position is likely a good idea. Possibly invest in an amp meter for in line testing on the BF motors tab to find throttle % and then have your OSD show throttle % if you cannot get current draw in the OSD.
    Something to consider with DJI and some of the limited OSD output options they have versus the Analog guys.

Do you suggest I need to adjust the power level options in Betaflight configurator to reflex the Li-iOn per cell voltage? I flown my explorer LR with 4S Li-Ion without adjusting the power option in BF and the Explorer dropped from the sky when the battery voltage hits 3.5v per cell. (No surprise there) I'm trying to decide between 5 and 6 inch because I think 4" won't do well in my environment. (Windy) It will be FPV with goggles and I'm building around the F760 Flight Controller. What would your recommend for a frame, (between likely Tyro 119 and Tyro 129 or equivalent). I've traditionally gone with heavier motors, but I'm really curious about which motor / battery combination would give me really good distance (with Crossfire) and smooth flight for filming.

      Tyro129 is an ok choice if you want to go with 6" or 7" props. It's very budget quality so don't expect it to last too long but it is okay while it's flying. If you have the budget, you will get much better results out of higher quality gear.

      Unfortunately, Vista have been out of stock for months so manufacturers have started switching to Vista. I kind of wonder if that was Caddx's plan all along.

    Would are some betaflight PID tuning tips for these type of builds? Video is a bit shake in windy conditions in my case. 3800kv analog < 250 gr with naked gopro

    @Joshua Bardwell Would you see more effect from the larger motors if you used an 80C+ battery pack on each of the drones vs the 20C LiON long-range battery (loving the fall colors!)

    Hi, what about flying this 6S. Won't this give it more power? Togheter with 3800kv should give it crazy power. FC can take 2-6S? Is therr some other problem with 6s?

    Joshua, my flywoo Explorer falls out of the sky on every flight just cruising around. The motors just turn off. Bit rate 50.8 so no failsafe? It will not rearm until I recycle the power. Does this sound like a bad ESC or flight controller or Vista?

    Would it be ok to draw the same conclusion on the Chimera7 6s in regards of kv? (1300 vs 1800).

    Hello JB, is it possible to use 4s 1300mha on this quad? If yes, should i use an adapter xt30 to xt60 or soldering an xt60 directly to the flightcontroler? Thank you master.

      Hey man, i just read a lot of comments below and found we can use these 1300 mah battery with no problem

      I use my geprc baby crocodile 4 with some batteries ranging from 750mah xt30 to 1500mah xt60, I just put an adapter to the battery. So I can use that battery for my 5 inch as well. Recently I bought 2 1100 batteries xt60 and will see if they last reasonably ok for the 5inch, if not I'll solder convert them to xt30. I've done that to a battery I bought with xt60 I soldered to xt30 and it had been working normally for about a year.

    I'm looking to get my first FPV quad, and I'm trying to find one that does acro AND somewhat LR. Is the Chimera4 what I'm looking for? I have been heavily advised to get the Nazgul5 HD V2 6S, however I feel that it's a tad more freestyle oriented. I'd love to be able to do some acro, but also fly out some distance. It sounds like the Chimera4 with smaller and larger batteries would be a better pick than the Nazgul5?

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The main limitation on the Nazgul range will be its battery life. The chimera can fly much longer because it's lighter. So I think your logic is basically sound.

    Hi Joshua,
    i was wondering why there are only 30x30 fcs on your ultimate shopping list. cant you recommend any 20x20?
    The talon f7 for example looks great. Can i use the caddx vista with that fc?

      Jb only likes 30x30, he aint sold on 20x20, but he flies w gopro weight n turtles hard, i fly w DJI dvr & dont lol so 0 issues w $50 20x20 35a 6s stacks on 4s. W a cap....well over a year, but hear the talons are bullet proof even on 6s

    Wich one do you think has more power, the 4inch with 3800kv or the 5inch with 2550kv. And wich one would be better for acting with my insta360 one R on board?
