Thank you Modern Drummer for this great interview, it's really nice to hear Chad go a little deeper into his early days with the Chili Peppers and hearing some details from his perspective. As always great to see Chad so humble and interested and genuine about it all too
This show is really unique. The host actually lets the guest talk. Too many hosts interrupt the whole time. I remember getting Chads Red Hot Rhythm Method back in 93. I watched that DVD a million times. Thanks for a great interview.
Chad, you Rock man! Always loved listening to you Rockin' those drums hard! I saw you play the Paiste 24" ride and just got it because of you. I love it! Keep Rockin' hard! DC
Thanks Modern Drummer. You've been a inspiration to me, especially as a young drummer. My first mag. had Sonny Emory on the cover i think. Late 80's early 90's. I was in small town Wisconsin and far from shops and concerts. However we had a book store. My band directors weren't percussionists by any means and had a distain for liu f hard hitting snare players let alone playing a kit gor anything other than jazz. But i had that magazine to keep me fired up. Keep on keepin on.
Very appreciative of any Chad Smith interview guys. But please take this feedback on board.. I can’t count how many CS interviews I’ve read/listed to and no one digs deeper on his drumming. We get a RHCP history lesson but we don’t know what’s his fav kit over the last 30 years? Does he use all the gear on his touring rig? How has his new endorsements changed his sound? Does he prefer clear/coated heads? Does he have tinnitus after 50 years of drumming? I feel like a drumming podcast should talk about all the nerdy drum things we all want to know. What do you think?
I was at the 2009 Phoenix Chickenfoot show when they did the DVD. (I was singing harmony from the balcony) I haven't seen a better concert since, and I've been to a lot. The only show that was better was Van Halen in 1986.
At some point if you’re not making enough to survive you need to re think what your doing what percentage of people make it like you did? It’s no different than pro athletes try and go pro but definitely have a back up plan.
I agree, I tried. I tried really hard for many years. At one point I had to face the facts and became a CPA otherwise I’d be homeless right now. 17:28 this isn’t a smart move

I've been unemployed for 2.3 years. I'm exhausted.

I've tried it. I've accomplished things 90% of the alternative rock groups haven't. But the money wasn't coming and we had to quit.
Chad how about blast from the past stories of Hollywood clubs house bands the Hollywood scene what's up with that.
