Thanks a million Terry, You are the only one to inform us about the off-set on the engine. Hobby Zone should inform customers who invest their hard earned money that it was a purpose for this. Heaven knows how many screwed up their planes by trying to correct the angle of the motor.
Thanks Terry for answering my reply. I am a Nam vet and I have found that flying takes the edge off of old memories. Thanks again and keep flying. Charlie.
FunkinWacky It looks like a great plane and your right its a 4 channel and its a bit more advanced than the Champ as it's only a 3 channel. The Champ is impossible to stall and if you leave off controls it tries to fly level it self or at least give you enough time for you to regain control. I have over 3 hours and about 21 flights on my Champ and I love it....Fly Hard Brotha...TBT
Cory Reeves: Some of that flight I just did not know what I was doing. As I got more time on the sticks I became more stable. I have to admit this thing is a blast to fly and I want to learn more. Wind here is bad also and limits my time in the air but its hard to keep a good pilot down...Fly Hard Brotha...TBT
Michael Bingham: This plane is way cool. Easy to lean impossible to stall which helps a ton to keep you from crashing. Self leveling and only 3 channels. There are mods for this plane on the net once you learn to fly it. This plane is even capable of doing a loop. I am going to add a 808 cam to it so I can get videos...Fly Hard Botha...TBT
The only reason, and with heavy heart as I opened my unemployed wallet why I began with a 300 dollar airplane was because of wyoming, the weather, and WIND! I love that airplane Terry. I am a helicopter guy, and I don't make a very good airplane pilot, my airplane flys itself lol
Update: The Champ saga continues. It took almost two weeks, due to inclimate weather, to recover my lost Champ. It was a wreck. I'll save what's left for parts. Hobby shop made me a deal for another plane and I'll try flying again...in a huge soccer field where the nearest tree is about a 1/4 mile away!
+ezpz2ez Sorry for your misfortune on your flight. Keep at it and it will get better. Let us know how your flying is progressing. Full Throttle & Blue Sky's Borotha...TBT
Update: My first flight with the Champ. The flight manual recommends a beginners mode for the flight controls (rudder & elevator). DO NOT do that. Remember, you're flying a piece of tissue paper with a buzz saw of a prop on one end. Use the advanced mode, you'll need all the control you can input. There was no breeze at ground level, however, at 40' to 50' above the ground can be a different story and that was my undoing. I left the throttle wide open while concentrating on controlling the plane. The breeze aloft would not allow me to do anything, it just kept pushing the plane farther away.Maybe if I would have had more throw in my flight contols...maybe if I had cut the throttle and see if it would have come down...coulda...woulda...shoulda! Now my Champ rests atop a beautiful 30' Sycamore tree....ta daaa! Tried my fishing rod to get it but to no avail. I noticed in the video that Tail Boom Terry was flying in a relatively small park surrounded by trees and light poles. Gutsy to say the least, surely not recommended for beginners. If the wind in Kansas ever lightens up I'll try it again some day.
Update: I did get to fly my new-replacement Champ, but with limited success. Attempted again today with similar results...too much wind.! One storm system after another passing through. Just out of curiosity I disassembled my wrecked C hamp to see what makes it tick. I was amazed. D/C electrics and electronics have some along way since I was a kid! How they get that many rpm's out of an elecric motor, smaller than a AAA battery, again amazes me. Two micro mini servos and a tiny p/c board is all there is to it. Oh well, when the wind dies down here in Kansas, I'll try again. Besides, I haven't quite been the same since that house fell on my sister!
lol..Bummer on that house falling..lol ..Glad to see your back attempting to fly that bird. Watch out for that mean ol wind it will raise havoc on the Champ. Keep at it and post us on your progress. Full Throttle & Blue Sky's Brotha...TBT
Hey Terry, my wife just got this plane for me for Christmas. I have flown it a couple times so far. For being a heli guy and this being my first plane, it flies pretty well. It seems to be tail heavy....I have tried taping a coin to the front for extra weight. Not sure this is a good fix, so any suggestions or tips for me? Thanks!!
+Robert Cox: Sounds like you did the right thing. If you believe the cog (center of gravity) is off them adjust for sure. Mine was fine and it flew great out of the box. I do believe this light planes seem to fly better a little nose heavy. Full Throttle & Blue Shy's Brotha...TBT
I just purchased this plane. Haven't flown it yet, too windy, but that's Kansas for you. However, I think we should add some updates on the kit as it's available today. First and foremost is the type of charger that is currently included. This is not the battery operated charger shown in this video. Which I think has it's advantages such as mobillty. The charger provided now is a USB Li-Po device which works well but, I can't take to the park with me unless I had a laptop or USB ports in my car. In other words, if the juice runs low, I'd have to pack up, drive home to plug into my desktop...bummer. Also, there is no bag with extra parts included. Well, if the wind calms down I'll get on with flying.
+Daniel Cooltez : Glad your back in the air. I flew mine so hard the tail separated from just wear and tear of flying. I added a new tail and back in the air. My main wing cracked from a one of many crashes. I added a wing and back in the air. Simple and cheap to fix. Full Throttle & Blue Sky's Brotha...TBT
I bought one of these and killed it within the 1st 30 minutes. maybe 15 not too sure. because the controller has absolutely NO stick resistance it went straight up and nose dived into the ground a few times. the stick feels like a plastic coffee stirrer in an empty glass. No resistance whatsoever. that was my 1st mistake. there's no "feel" to learn to fly it. after hitting the nose a few times either the motor or the battery fried and that was that. I called to see if I could have the motor replaced and he said it would be cheaper in the long run to buy another champ. Nope, skip that. so, 1st time out of the box and back in the box and in my closet. dead ! I spose i should toss it. it looks fine. the prop isn't broken nothing's broken, but the motor is fried. smoke came out of it. it didn't start back up after that. never blew a Hundred bucks that fast in my entire life.
Nunya Biznis Sorry to hear that. I flew mine the 1st time and never had that problem. I know the sticks don't have that much resistance but I used the flat part of my thumbs on the top of the sticks to control the plane. You will have to decide on which direction you should go in next. I do know Hobby Zone sells a Gearbox with Motor sku# HBZ4930 for 15.19 for this plane. Full Throttle & Blue Sky's Brotha
Nunya Biznis motor is easy enough to replace. the fuselage is held together by scotch tape. Pop it open, yank the motor out of the gearbox and replace. Can't be more than 10 bucks at the hobby store. Now your throttle or elevator stick has no resistance? The throttle stick isn't supposed to have any. If your elevator (right) stick doesn't, then there's something wrong with it. It's supposed to spring to center. If you're shooting straight up, your elevator trim probably needs adjusted or you're using too much elevator on the stick. Don't give up on it. Crashing these doesn't compare to crashing a way more expensive plane to many little pieces.. like I did with my P-38 lightning. I have 230 invested in that thing including a whole new fuselage. Between crashing it and repairing, I got a lot of experience flying trainers like the champ. I can fly the living dickens out of the p-38 now.
sirlordwhitman wow glad to hear your having fun now. We all have to learn before we can fly the heck out of theses. Full Throttle & Blue Sky's Brotha...TBT

Somebody has to speak up. Thanks so much for your input.

No problems brotha. Glad to see you letting off some steam by flying. Glad I could help
Take a look at the F939 from WL. It flies a lot like the champ just a little more aggressive.

Terry L I loved the flight, you did awesome.
That thing looks pretty darn cool... ive been looking a little bit at some basic 4 channel trainers.
