- The new Renault Triber promises space for six people and upmarket features like an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. In terms of size, it's a sub-4 meter micro MPV, but in terms of style, it's an SUV. The new Triber is practical too, with its sliding second row and detachable rear seats, all possible because of a modified version of Kwid's modular CMF-A platform that underpins it. Prices are expected to start at under INR 6 lakh so it's competitors are likely to include anything from the Tata Tiago to the Hyundai i20 to the Maruti Suzuki Ignis. Abhik gives us a complete lowdown.

More bang for the buck in a chick package. Though the segments could be different, could you please pitch the TRIBER against the ERTIGA Petrol. I guess TRIBER could be the ONLY OPTION under a million bucks for some big families on budget. The engine could be a downer though you don't yield to rally instincts with 7 on board 😊
The car is a boon for lower income joint families. Kudos to Renault for market segmentation!

As a Creta petrol owner and haven driven my friends datson go. I am impressed how the gearing was done of the little Datsun. Second gear pulls immediately on the datson, where in the Creta there is a delay. So I am sure the triber will not feel underpowered. Impressive car!
Creta is overpriced. I see Hyundai is milking Indian market well. They should lower their prices for the quality and brand they have.

That won't make any much of difference at all ! Turbo petrols are not good in pulling load , unless it's big turbo petrol , this car needs diesel engine straightaway !

First of all Thank You PowerDrift for the walk around. I'm not sure if Renault nailed it, but you guys nailed it again. Coming back to the Triber, it looks promising & has practicality as well, but coming to the power, its a tad bit lower on papers. However, coming to terms of power and compared to the extended family car category, it's a little higher in power than the Maruti Suzuki Eeco & falls below than the now discontinued Chevrolet Enjoy. Again at the given price what Renault has done with the car, I think it has managed to hit the sweet spots well with the design, ergonomics, practicality & clever styling. I won't mind packing the car with friends, family or foes on the weekend drive for that extra fun inside more than the power delivery on the outside.

i am waiting to buy this car with fully loaded automatic version. since i am driving kwid i can say renault is a better choice with comparison to maruti especially in terms of qulity of materails being used and safety which is totally lacking in maruti cars. plus high ground clearance which is best for indian roads full of potholes and broken.

I don't think the families that will buy will mind the lack of power too much. It needs to keep its composure on bad roads and avoid breakdowns. Given Renault's reliability issues, it's good news they didn't put a turbo on it.
It will be more economical as well without a turbo, especially in Indian Urban areas.
They're basically targeting a niche that wasn't explored much.

All them Moto channels are talking about Triber, but trust me this is the first time i saw the third row seat and the dude looked chill in that space. I think that third row space and pulling power of 70 BHP with 6 adults will determine the fate of this mpv.

1. I always used to think, why cant AC vent be given on B pillers in vertically distribed air flow(not to face). rear AC vents in centre are of no use. this distribution matters more when canin size of car is more in comparison to the engine capacity and you have petrol as a fuel.(best example wagon R NEW and old both. literally sucks for rear pessangers). small AC vents in wagon R, grand i10, xcent, they aren't effective. triber seems to undetstand the game.
2. I literally loved the magic seat feature in jazz. that flat space is useful in many occasions. further, slider rear seat is a nice idea.
3. we indians can drive smallest of the engine and overtake biggest of the car. so engine is not an issue at least for me.
4. i need at least basic control on steering wheel which is not shown in the car. that will the only reason for my rejection after improper pricing.
Highly under-powered for 7 seater.. the 1.0 Litre engine is a huge letdown.
3:12 - Doesn’t the Datsun Go+ come with a 1.2 Litre 3 cylinder petrol engine that’s different from the 1.0 L in the Triber? But your reviewer states here that given how the engine performs in the Go+, the small displacement shouldn’t be an issue? Lol. Isn’t the new 1.0 L petrol engine the same that powers the Clio in European markets? Please correct me if I’m wrong. Thank you
a 7 seater under 6 lakhs....i think it is a good move by renault....it will deffinetly hit the market with more nos.....the space they had managed for the 3rd row is excellant with such a budget car

Third row space is impressive despite being under 4m. Other car markers must make a note of it. Even bigger 7 seaters are pathetic third row space. Kudos Renault. Only the engine is a downer..

Renault has nailed with the design..such a pleasing car (very european) and that massive 687 liters , unique cabin design
But This car doesnt ever deserve that 1.0 lt engine. Its lethargic in kwid and not a justice for this beauty ( inthe segment)

With this seating arrangement Renault has played a master stroke in this segment but the durability of this car is yet to be seen, hopefully it will not be as disappointing as Kwid. It will become the best seller of Reno if Euro Ncap backs it with good scores.

See.. The thing is with 6-7 people on board and some luggage this car will definitely feel underpowered. Renault should've gone the mild-hybrid route with at least 90+ BHP and some hybrid assist to save fuel.
Gurkirat Singh..I agree with you. But you too have to understand that NOBODY can provide every possible luxury and a powerful engine..and keep the cost low. If you want luxury and power both..you have options. Go for the Innova..if you have Rs. 20 lakhs..or go for the Ertiga..if you have Rs. 10-15 lakhs. This car is built for low income middle classes of India, not for everybody. I know this is not everyone's cup of tea. But atleast Renault made something for the middle class joint families of India, and not Maruti. Yes, there is one thing we have to consider before buying.. Renault's reliability and after sales service, which unfortunately, they are not so famous for. Hope this helps. #Renault #Triber
Kumar Raman i feel you brother. This car is for the lower income people but the lower power can kill people. What happens if it stalls with a lot of people and they are in steep mountainside? What happens to its stability? That’s the question you gotta ask yourself. I seriously think it is underpowered. A so-called MPV with the engine of a entry level hatchback? Come on! There’s no excuse for that.
20 years ago we had the Sumo which carried 10 people, weighed about 2.5 tonnes with just 68bhp power and we cried WATTA POWERFUL ENGINE. It was so because the Ambassadors, Fiats and Marutis churned lesser power and carried less. We're getting used to the bigger numbers and fancier words and hence cry foul when we see anything lesser than triple digit ponies on the spec sheet. Even RR used to term their engine power as ADEQUATE, until a few calendars as as ago

Those were easier times with way less traffic and people! I know it had a lot of people carrying capacity and still has it but you gotta understand that it’s not the 1980s anymore. You should provide with adequate power. As simple as it goes. Sumo was never meant to be a family car. This is targeted towards larger families with 6-7 members and count the fact the this weighs a tonne... 73 bhp. Are you kidding me? There’s no excuse for it. Say anything you want!

Are you sure that the Datsun Go+ engine is same as triber? I believe it is a 1.2 used in Micra.

That's something we can find out once we can drive the Triber.
New Ertiga has gone ahead of the Innova Crysta in terms of sales this year and has a waiting period of around 5 months.

I thought of such a sub 4 meter car way back in 2008-2009
So now this industry gets one after 10 years.
Anyways, I seriously doubt if it would be able to pull when 6 are onboard, Renault doesn't have an engine now to use in this car.
Gorgeous looking car but I think the kreb weight 947kg is even lighter than tiago 947kg... is it made of feathers? I think it will be another rattling car like kwid.

This car surely is a game changer but the kerb weight of just 947kg is to be considered while buying.
