    I like how you show when something goes wrong and how to fix it.

      Thanks, just goes to show that I am human and not a computer that can even go bad as man made the computer.

    I wish I'd seen this video before my first attempt at using my new garter carriage. It's a great introduction, much clearer than the manual and dealt with all the problems I had. Thanks!

      @RobertaRoseMeads  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Leslie Lewis Sorry you had to do by the manual, I also had issues when reading a manual for the different machines, most times now I don't even bother with the manual but every once in a while, I do need to read a certain part of it. When I did thins one, it was for a very nice person that needed that little bit of help. Eventually I did get this online as you noticed. I know I have seen a few videos on the GC but not as detailed to get those to understand that accessory and how it works. So I am happy that I did get this one online.

    Thank for this wonderful video! I just purchased this same garter carriage and am awaiting its arrival. Your steps to setting it up, and seeing your approach to problem solving mis-patterning are extremely helpful! It has taken some of the fear and intimidation factor out of using it. Now, I just need to get that same experience for my new-to-me 940--now that is intimidating!

    • @RobertaRoseMeads
      @RobertaRoseMeads  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was nervous when I first used this GC but as we are new to something, no matter what it is, we overcome that fear we had. So I look at anything new in my life as a challenge and find out that it is pretty easy. Of course to watch someone else using the accessory does help many much easier. Most of the manuals of the different machines can be boggling, even to those that have been machine knitting longer than I have, so that makes me feel better just knowing that.

      +melendu29 Thank you. Did enjoy that accessory when I had that machine, but as you see, I have had many other machines but when I found a new one I wanted to try out, I would find a new home for the one before.Also thanks on the treadle table, have been using that for a while now, pretty sturdy and love the drawers for some of the added tools and weights I have.Berda

      Badia Ali Actually that was back in 2010 I had that machine and carriage, I just put up the garter bar videos from then also and figured that putting up the garter carriage one was in that group to upload.
      It was nice but just a bit too noisy for myself, had sold that machine and carriage about a year later. Sometimes I wish I had kept a certain machine and the KH940 was one of them. Oh well, we only live once, so I do what I can do, and that is all I can ask of myself.

    • @RobertaRoseMeads
      @RobertaRoseMeads  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +BHjeds Glad I had this up. I know that the visual is better than manuals, even I will get stumped at some manuals but in time I do get to understand what they are trying to say. Most manuals were not translated to English or even other languages very well, so if one can show how something is done, then better for you and others. Berda

    • @RobertaRoseMeads
      @RobertaRoseMeads  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad I did get this up, sorry for delay, google has been changing things around to where I just do not have much time to figure it out. I would rather be on one of my machines than to be at the computer these days. But I do need to do computer stuff also.
      AS mentioned before, some manuals are not written up right or not translated just right that makes even the best of us machine knitters dumbfounded. So your not alone in that part.

      I was happy to put this video up, love the GC but do not like the noise. I am very sensitive to some noises and why I sold that machine. But then again, I did get myself the Studio SK840 in pieces, got it all back together and then had the EC1 from my SK860 and it worked beautifully. So I sold the 940 and GC, the ribber didn't sell but eventually I did get myself the KH830. I only have the SK860 now that is the only electronic I have but love that machine as well as my bulky but then again I love the plastic LK150 machine also.

    Hello Roberta! your videos have always been so helpful to me. I was wondering if the garter carriage would work the same if I had every other needle in work. (if I wanted to make a mock rib or ladders)

    • @RobertaRoseMeads
      @RobertaRoseMeads  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I really do not think so, at least that is what I was told years ago. Maybe work the mock rib with the K carriage instead and let the GC work the rest of it.

  • @valereebraz198
    @valereebraz198 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Are there any differences between this carriage and the others you push manually? Besides the obvious fact that this one moves automatically and the others I’d have to move myself. Is there a reason someone would want this carriage over others? Or is it purely convenience?

    • @RobertaRoseMeads
      @RobertaRoseMeads  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well this one as you see, is automatic, in a way. It still have to be set up somehow. But most that have the Garter Carriage, from what I have seen, use it so they can make something on one machine, and work on a different machine.

    Hi Roberta - I value your videos and experience. I have just got a GC and today managed to set it up. It cast on beautifully but then did not pattern. It just knit stocking stitch. My machine is a Brother 950i. Any advice on setting the Stitchworld 1x1 rib? Thanks. (Dec 28 )

    • @RobertaRoseMeads
      @RobertaRoseMeads  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wonderful! So I never had the 950i, but it is similar to the 940 but with more functions. Did you ever get it going? I would think that Frank from The Answer Lady would be the one to ask. I seem to think you can only get them on facebook now. They used to do email, but last I looked, couldn't find a link to email them.

    • @RobertaRoseMeads
      @RobertaRoseMeads  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jean Duncalf I no longer have that machine or garter carriage but I have heard that if your GC isn't working good, then put it on the tilt back as if you have a ribber on, that tends to help it knit better, at least what I have heard on them. That was too noisy for me, so I only used it a few times then liked how the studio electronics worked. That was when I switched over to that side of the machines, but I still have a brother push button and punch card knitter that I will use from time to time.

    Good lesson Roberta, do you have a lesson somewhere about using a regular pattern with the knit leader and how to use the knit leader after you get the pattern on it?

    • @RobertaRoseMeads
      @RobertaRoseMeads  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      charles Moyer Thanks, the only thing I have for the Knit Leader is on a disk, I am tired from getting the garter bar videos ready for online, so that one I am not ready to do, I need a rest but you can of course purchase it from me, what I get online is half the high definition that my disks are but also my disks have Dolby 5 sound as well as chapter marks to a certain spot on the disk. I am not sure that one may make it, at least for a while as I am tuckered and will get to bed early for sure tonight.

      charles Moyer Actually that video was done back in 2010, I just got it up today, but to edit videos and get them for online, I have to set them to a different format and then decide if they can be at full HD or low HD with the file size. Even though I have broadband, sometimes it can be slower than normal. But my other computer is shut down, probably won't turn it on for a few days as I do need a break now and maybe I can knit something for myself or get onto making the sweaters I make the grandnieces and grandnephews for Christmas.

    Hi Roberta, do i have to use the mylar pattern cards with it on Brother hk 910? Thanks

    • @RobertaRoseMeads
      @RobertaRoseMeads  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe you do need the Mylar Sheet to work up ribbing with the GC, or it will only do knitting (purl as you see it). Not sure where you can get them as sometimes those older machines, things like that are hard to find but you may luck out on eBay.
      Not having the 910 and only having the 940 at that time, all I remember is one needs a punch card for the manual machines or the Mylar sheets for the electronic machines for the GC to work its magic.

      +Martha Rayner Gee that was a while back but I do remember it was some 3 ply yarn but forget the brand name of it. Then I made a baby sweater with doubled up 2/24 with no problem. Well the only problem was when it dropped a stitch and I had to let the GC go by and then stop it to pick up that one stitch. Berda
