So cool! I milled my own logs for the first time this past summer and waiting for stuff to air dry. Would love to see you continue this guitar body journey with this particular piece of ash. Awesome 👍
Thanks Tom and Kris- awesome video! Curious if there is a way to cut a crotch so that you have the quartersawn (vs rift) grain coming off both sides of the figured crotch (or flatsawn coming off both sides)? E.g., in the pieces shown you have the straight grain of the quartersawn (vs rift) on one side and the cathedral flat sawn on the other side.
I am new to your channel and just subscribed as I am a woodworker doing charcuterie boards, spoons and other small things. My question is why were there sparks when you were cutting the first crotch piece? I didn't see any when you cut the second piece. That second piece I imagined as a somewhat irregularly shape charcuterie board.
This is off the main topic of crotch wood but what is your thoughts on using ash for a woodworking bench top? I am thinking of making a woodworking bench with similar design as the one you recently made. Would a thick ash top be a reasonable choice?
Nice one Tom!
That table is a masterpiece, Tom -- well done!!
Very informative and insightful learned a lot thanks so much!!
