Someone liked her a retired, with unlimited free time woman would do this. Also pain has a lot of toxins and to use with kitchen utensils is not a good idea. I would just trash recycle ♻️ them less is everything. No need for extra bulk. That was actually tons of water she used to take all that paint off what a waste of water. Also mason jar is okay I don’t like those stickers it makes it look dirty. My opinion!

Victoria Grady Crumpton, that paint should not be going down the drain into the water system like that. While I like the idea of the project, please reconsider using a used paint can, there are places you can buy new paint cans for $5, if you are really inclined to make it.

I watched your video before work on July 15th and wanted to make a comment but, had to get on the road so I saved it to my favorites. Growing up my family and friends called me the female MacGyver because I use to make cool things out of nothing and when I grew up TH-cam was unheard of naturally. Even now, someone's trash becomes my treasure. I value everything, I try never to waste anything. Every gift I have ever recd I have - if it is not my cup of tea when I have recd it slowly but surely it is used somehow, somewhere in my home. I never recycle gifts or put them on my yard sale tables to sell. Sometimes I may alter them slightly to fit me better if it is something to wear. I work for General Motors and now and then anything we have not sold in the parts dept we have to do what is known as a Field Disposal where we literally throw part in the dumpsters but, metal goes into metals, cardboard and plastics go into their own bins. I save all the brass washers and silver washers to use on mobiles and the brass washers (engine oil seal washers), I coat with clear nail polish so it doesn't turn my neck green and I have made some very cool washer jewelry. Walking the streets of Hoboken, NJ when I went to visit my nephew's college town, my dad and I found a huge large washer in the street. I brought it home and cleaned it good and made a cool necklace with it using Diamond Glaze. But, your video of remaking your drawer is what I really liked and I love the newsprint paper in the bottom and was so happy to see a Bible displayed in it. What a cool way to drop your seed for on lookers. I am sure you have heard about the movie called The Traveling Pants. Well, my story is called the Traveling Desk. About 11 years ago I was driving home thru an old part of the neighborhood where the houses are all very country like from the original old town before it started getting built up. On the side of the road was a child's desk painted in blue with what looked like a technique where you use a sponge and the person dabbed yellow paint over the blue. I had been looking for a small desk for my computer to go next to another piece of furniture to make an entertainment center combo. The one piece of furniture I already had was a shiny black painted piece and I thought this desk would be so cool painted a gloss black with nickle knobs on it. Once I backed up my pick up truck closer to the desk and got out - I was happy to see it had the middle top lap drawer, a large bottom deep drawer and a nice size side top drawer but, no middle drawer on the left side. I looked all around for it thinking maybe it was broken and pulled out for some reason but, now drawer. I have upper body strength but, back then I had back problems and I am very thin and even though I am the right weight for my height people think I have an eating disorder. I hear someone yelling, "Mam, mam, let me help you" and a nice man came over and picked up the desk like it was a loaf of break and put it into my truck. I said I wanted to go to the house to see if they had the other drawer and he said the person who put the desk on the street doesn't live here - he said he didn't know why but, someone in a pick up pulled over days ago and put it on the curb without the drawer. I lugged it up to my condo all by myself - getting it down from my tailgate on my own too. I went to Home Depot and bought a piece of thin board and propped it up where the missing shelf was and used that to keep my copy paper on so it was nice I could just pull a piece out from that empty slot. I was telling the guys at work about my new find the day before but, said it was missing a drawer and one mechanic's ears perked up and a big smile formed on his face and he said he could make me a drawer. He said for me to get the dimensions and tell him the next day if it is made with dovetail or straight edges and bring him $20 and he will make me a drawer. So, he made me a drawer with dove tail just like the others out of a pretty oak with a beautiful woodgrain pattern in it. I took it home and did the large cross with a pencil to find the middle to drill a hole and planned on going to Home Depot to get the gloss black paint and to find cool knobs for all the drawers. Well, here it sits - still with the blue speckled yellow paint, no knobs and I am moving by the end of Sept after living here for 20 years and guess what? Where I am going (mind you I have 54 pieces of furniture and can only take 14 at the most. Cannot even take my bed which I love so very much) is furnished. I have called the Salvation Army, Lupus, Habitat for Humanity and some will take some furniture and others won't take this or that but, out of all three - no one wants the child's desk. So this Saturday I plan on taking it down to my complex's dumpster and I have been torn if I should leave the drawer in incase someone likes it and takes it but, then if they don't - come Monday the large truck comes with the large claws that will just pick it up and throw it into the back. I told my Dad, I paid for the drawer to be made by a special co-worker friend - paid $20 - and the man has since retired and I thought I could still put a nice knob on it and put some linseed oil on it to add a little bit of sheen to it. I would never paint it, it is so beautiful and you want to see the dovetail craftsmanship he did. Maybe I could keep sewing supplies in it or my lotions tucked into my night stand - where I am going they do not have a medicine cabinet in the bathroom. I have been torn what to do until I saw your video and now I know...……….I will drag the desk to the furniture area to be pitched on Saturday but, the drawer will stay with me. Maybe if someone likes it on Saturday, they can use the empty slot for copy paper. I am sorry this became a novel - didn't mean for it to be so long. In closing - wanted to tell you that if you know anyone that paints cars for a living - when they mix the paint - they use little silver cans that are about 5 inches high and about 10 inches in diameter. One of our painter's years ago gave me a couple and I took scraps of burlap and wrapped them around the middle and glued the ends to each other and glued mini pine cones that you can buy at Michaels in the middle with a tiny red ribbon I tied myself. Then I put a small glass of water inside each can and put sprigs of holly inside and sprigs of Christmas tree cuttings and it was simple but, looked great - one on each end table next to my love seat. I love your pickle jar - a family member of mine is now 75 but, started collecting sea glass when she was about 5 in a pickle jar and she has thousands of pieces in there and has it on her coffee table. My brother makes pickled eggs in his jar like yours every Easter. I have a couple of Ball Mason jars I may make wire handles for. I have tons of wire of many kinds from beading and making my own photo frames out of pieces of molding and using my miter saw to cut the edges. Let me just tell you - if you have a Home Depot near by and if they have a wood scrap bin - if it is less than a foot long, they are suppose to let you have those scraps for free. Both of my Home Depots do that and they said at Customer Service that they are all suppose to honor that. Have a super Friday and a great weekend. I am excited to try the pickle jar repurpose. We go through a large jar every 2 weeks and our town no longer recycles glass. This is a perfect solution!

I love using paint cans with the lids to decorate and put gifts in. I did one with TREATS FOR YOUR FEET on it and put lots of items for a pedicure and different foot scrubs and lotions in it, for my niece's birthday, and clipped a little paint can opener on the side of the handle.
Love your paint cans and the wire handle jar is so vintage looking. I don't throw out any wood. Love the drawer make over. I use casters on them too and use them for under the bed storage. I love your trash to treasure videos. Have a blessed week. Hugs from the southeast coast of Florida 🌴😎💙😎🌴

We stopped in the thrift store across the big store that has a bakery spot in it as well ☺ anyways I found a white bible there and the name in it is Mariam Yoder.. I hope I am spelling the first name correctly..😥 I was excited to get an an all
white bible. When I seen the name I had wondered if she was related to you. When I was baptized, the church gave me a white bible. That was a long time ago but I do still have it. Everything is beautiful Mary!
That wire is rebar wire. They use it to tie down rebar before putting in concrete. It comes in handy for a lot of things though. I loved all the pieces and how you changed them. They are TREASURE! 😊

I don’t know Mary personally, I’m a viewer of her you tube videos only. It seems to me, from watching for a while, that this is how Mary generates an income. Many find her reuse of throw away items to be clever and money saving (wise). I don’t know the laws in her state about what can go down the sink drains and what can’t. I don’t think the US has a strict standard that is enforced by all states equally. I know that other countries do have stricter laws. I appreciate those who thoughtfully clean up after their projects in a less harmful way to our environment. I don’t know how else Mary could practically clean up as she uses a paint sprayer and tools that require scrupulous cleaning in between daily use. I hope Mary can continue to provide for her family through these oftentimes useful projects.
I appreciate what you do and love your ability to create something from paint cans that look so elegant, a drawer that be used for a side table and also I just used a pickle jar to store the old clothes pins, so now I can make a handle from your inspiration from the wire. So cute! I do have a couple of suggestions, though. It's rarely necessary to wash latex paint from a can. I work in a paint department where I mix paint all day. Customers often come in with old cans of paint and want me to match the color to make a new gallon. I usually slice a square of the dried paint from inside the can and simply peel it off. So if you let the paint dry, you can just peel it out of the can. In fact, it's fun to see how large of a piece you get!
The other suggestion is to simply remove the handles from the can rather than tape them. It's such a pain to remove tape that's stuck to itself, and in this case it's not necessary. If you bend one side of the handle in toward the can, you can usually twist it off. Then the other side comes right off. When you put it back on, just pull the handle out and it will be just as snug as before. Cheers!

I’m sure also just to add, once these ideas get out the businesses will be seeking out paint can suppliers and have their merchandise featured in a home goods store near you pretty soon. Mary, I think you could go bigger and sell your products around the world and have more influence. I know that means finding a small company willing to pump out some of your projects for you. But I also know you derive so much pleasure doing it yourself.
If you put those two loose ends of your wire into the drill bit holder the drill will twist it perfectly and in about 20 seconds...JFYI
Possibly the only person that can wash out paint cans and not get a drop on her!😄 I would have paint EVERYWHERE. 🙄😆😂 The wire looks like bailing wire, used for haying (I get it by the rolls at the hardware/farm store for crafting)

Used water in a system goes to a filtration plant. Are you concerned about traces of drugs you take and pee out? It is the same thing. Research.
That wire is called Bailing Wire, and it is usually available at most hardware stores. Usually only $5-6.😉

Shannon Gallagher it’s not about not being chill....paint is considered hazardous waste when poured down the drain and is not allowed in most states! 🙄
LindLTaylor X small amounts for brush washing is considered safe. It is considered unsafe when you begin to wash paint pots out or pour paint down the drain! The toxic chemicals enter the municipal sewer system which most sewer treatment facilities are not capable of removing.

Simple solution. Take cans to the recycle facility.
Washing a paintbrush with fresh paint on it seems to be the same thing. It would be wasteful and expensive to toss those just because you didn't want to put the paint down the drain. Washing out those paint cans seems to me the same concept.
joframur I’m sure the recycling facility washes them before they can be reused.
I've never heard of used paint cans being reused, but regardless, pretty sure that paint's dry by the time anybody gets paint cans to a recycling center.

Paint is considered a hazardous waste when poured down the drain though. This should not be encouraged :(
Love all your ideas. I also used the paint cans for holding small plants in pots. Very handy things.
Love the ideas, also my plumber also said nothing should go down the drain, except for the normal water, sink soap, but avoid as much as you can to go down the drain. I have cleaned it off on my side yard, where I have no grass, just gravel, and do not want any grass, etc growing, it's near by faucet, and no problem there.
