I couldn’t agree more, it’s like, ok Mary what are we going to do today? I am really struggling today and it would have been my best friends birthday, I lost her a few years back from a long journey with breast cancer. I actually stumbled on your channel because she invited me to go to an event her agriculture supplier hosted doing trash to treasure event (finally something for the ladies). I smile through tears as I remember her this day. Thank you for the mental medication you provided today, you will never know the extent to which you bring joy to people’s lives.
@Cee Jay I'm so sorry about the loss of your best friend. My aunt passed away at 48 from breast cancer, and hers was also a long, hard journey. Such a terrible disease. I pray you find comfort in your happy memories of her through your difficult days.
Oh I have shutters loll My Mom gave me some really old & well kept plantation shutters when we finished building our house 4 years ago. Instead of using curtains for our bathroom window, I used four shutters which were already attached & even had the original latches. Painted them white & attached them. Every morning I open them. Also, took another matching set took them apart, painted them but, attached a 1 x 4 piece of wood to bottom front. Then added 2 braces at an angle & attached to the 1 x 4 wood & side piece. Made them into 2 long scounces adding very old quart size mason jars, 1 per shelve with Lavendar sprigs. They are so pretty & get a lot of compliments. Not through yet loll Then took 2 sets of longer ones, painted them hen hung on each side of my big mirror hanging in living room added a greenery wreath on each one. Everyone loves the shutters when they visit. Last but not least used 3 smaller ones, stained them, added black L shape braces for shelves above my toilet in each bathroom. They are so gorgeous.😁
Debbi here. I repurposed two shutters also. I used the transfers from IOD (sunflowers and wildflowers), added a small floating shelf, three shaker pegs on the bottom to hang necklaces or hats, and painted my granddaughters names on the top. Then attached picture hangers on the back and hung them on the wall over each girls bed. My granddaughters were so happy to have their own personalized design in their favorite colors. They place small nicnacks on the shelf and rearrange them often. I love the joy it brings them!
MARY, FROM AN 83 YEAR OLD GRANDMA WITH CANCER: USING SAFETY GLASSES TAKES JUST A FEW SECONDS, EYE INJURIES MAY BE FOREVER! WE NEED YOU TO BE CREATING FOR A LONG TIME!!!!!'
I have a 3 panel shutter room divider I got from a yardsale. I took the panels apart and removed half of the slats. I replaced them with a thin piece of wood and painted it with black chalk paint. I added a black cast iron drawer pull upside down to hold sticks of chalk. Now to work on the other 2 panels, hopefully to sell.
I love everything that you made with the shutters, my personal favorite is the little signs…ADORABLE!! I don’t have any shutters this spring, but normally I make little planter boxes out of shutters and put them in my booth. They are always a big hit. Thank you for sharing your creativeness with us, God Bless!
Mary I love the sign idea made from the shutters!! I would love to see one made with a Red Geranium....would look lovely against the white shutter. I think you could use a shutter to create a shelf above a window perhaps in your little shed. You are able to visualize so many creative items. You have such wonderful ideas!! I always look forward to your videos!
I've recently used one as a shelf as well. I've also stenciled some shutters that turned into wall hangings. I used some very old ones (not in good shape) as a trellis for sweet peas.
I have an old yellow shutter hanging in my laundry room and I hang vintage crochet pot holders that are in the shape of clothes on it. Yours all came out so cute I can't pick a favorite.
Mary, each one of your creations is so unique and beautiful. What a gift you are to all of us, with your inspiration and talent. I can't help but notice that your hands and nails always look lovely, and you don't seem to be covered with paint and debris. I need to know your secret! I love your channel!
Oh Mary I loved everyone of those! I would give anything to have your talent with tools (I am so intimidated by power tools) and be able to make more things. Each one you made was so unique and very useful in your home, love that.
Oh Mary They all are so beautiful and elegant First one the plate and cup holder was gorgeous, Second The Signs Yes love them all and Yes keep those as a regular sale on Esty they all are gorgeous , third the corner shelf love, then the sign sheet love love all you make with natural wood and white it’s just a stunning look and last your Table center piece so lovely you could also have a floral centrepiece and candles on the sides will look stunning .. Would love to see more Shutter Projects Definitely.....You could take a shutter and make a Gorgeous mud room rack with hooks on it for light weighted jackets , umbrella and purse or hats. And also it would be beautiful in bathroom as a shelf to display a nice flower and candle on top shelf then next shelf display some wash cloths bottom have a hook for a hand towel or bath towel ... In children’s room hang in long way and place a top shelf to display a child’s favorite toy followed by Bedtime story books in each slot .. You could make a shelf on top then slots under it can be your mail slots for important Mail that doesn’t need to get lost ... And last make a shelf to be use in art and craft room they are tons of ways to make it useful for craft rooms ... hope to see many more Shutter Projects thanks for sharing your ideals it always open up our minds to what we have lying around unused to make into a great piece of furniture...❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I always love Mayday! The first few shelves were my favorite, but they were all great ideas. I love your humble demeanor. Please don't ever change. God Bless you and yours.
I have an old door in my living room and a old shutter door in the bedroom. As a quilter I change out my quilts and drape then over the doors as a “quilt holder”.
You are truly blessed, your creativity & utility with refurbishing old into new is amazing & inspiring. I really enjoy watching your videos & sharing in your ideas. God bless
Wow I love the way you think ..I will do some redos so I bought this old tin rust bucket of a cabinet at an estate sale. They were using it as a canned good pantry so I asked the lady running the estate, so how much for this little cabinet it was ugly she said really, I said yes she said $10 and you can have the wheels so I have a small SUV and the cabinet actually fit in. I put the backseat down I brought it home and I left it in my garage for a couple of days. My husband said what did you buy and why no one saw the potential I got out the shop vac, clean it up got some rust oleum did a coating of it and then painted it white enamel in the inside, and on the outside it had an around our deck and look I painted that red and end up looking like a Coca-Cola machine. I was using it to store lighted bottles that I used to create. I no longer do those. So now I use the cabinet in my pantry to hold extra items when the pandemic hit. I love it and I love that it had wheels they were on a homemade board with casters
Mary…I am totally over the top impressed with everything that you made in todays video! SO beautiful…and made SO professionally…you do such incredible workmanship! You just amaze me when you use all those tools…actually I get abit unnerved watching…especially the large saw! With all of my heart I don’t want you to get hurt! But then you have learnt well how to use each one safely! God bless you and your family…SO much! I love you…❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ You are a precious blessing to all of us who get to know you! ❤
I found a pair of the old original shutters in the basement of my parents’ 1910 house. They were black and distressed. I power washed them and then sealed them with clear wax (without touching up the paint). I hinged them together and stood them in a corner of my dining room. Using ‘S’ hooks, I hung baskets and cutting boards on them. They have sentimental value because my parents are both deceased and I subsequently sold the old house. I love the look and can change it seasonally 😍
Hi, I never comment on anyone but I had to now. I love every project you do and I have never seen a woman work so hard and know how to use all the tools before. Great Job!
I’ve seen some variations of the way you did the shutters, but some were totally new ideas to me. They all turned out so beautiful. It always makes me happy to see something old, that would usually just get trashed, get such a beautiful new life.
I love your projects. You do a beautiful job. There is one thing that I did note, you should really be wearing safety glasses whenever you're using the saw or sander.
Mary, I love your ideas for these shutters. Brilliant. I have made a wall sconce by attaching a barn light (or any kind of wall light ) to it and using most of the length of the shutter. Look beautiful flanking a bed with 2 small side tables.
We were not allowed to put a lot of holes in the walls of my daughter's dorm room so we bought a pair of old tall shutters, stood them back behind her bed and used "s" wire hooks to hang all kinds of pictures, signs and mementos. It was really cute. We bought the shutters at RESTORE (Habitat) for $10. I really like all the projects you did today. Excellent
Love the ideas with shutters. Years ago I used an old shutter, painted it, mounted on the wall and use it in the bathroom as an magazine rack. Just open it in half , insert the magazines ,one on each slat. Tada I still use . Perfect ,out of the way rack.
Hi Mary, I painted a snowman on my shutter, and hung it on my garage front. I will post it later… sorry, that I can’t post it now, but I am on my vacation. You come up with so many sweet ideas!
I love the shutter signs, unfortunately for me I can't find them on your Etsy shop! Please inform us of the next time you make some!, You are my favorite on you tube...
I would make the corner shelves rounded on the front. The plants would have more room and it softens the angularity of it. But LOVING the corner shelf idea!!! I am thinking a bunch of different sizes as a "wall" to divert prying eyes of neighbors. Loving the design on them!!!! ❣️😍😍❣️😍😍❣️
WOW!!! As the years go on, you never fail to create new, wonderful ideas, you have such an amazing talent and skill. It's a joy to watch you... I loved your transfer art work... Thank you for sharing.
Hello Mary! You are so incredibly creative! I love what you have done with your shutters! Last year my husband and I wanted to make a covering to hide our gas meter on the side of our home. We found 2 large shuttter door panels, cut them down to size, reworked parts of the panels as you did and created a beautiful screen panel that sits in front of the meter. We can lift it off the posts we made if the gas company needs access to the meter and it has now created a wonderful new little garden sitting area that I can't wait to decorate and plant this summer (if the snow ever melts here in Alberta). Thanks again for all your ideas! You continue to inspire so many!!!
I was totally blown away. The decals on the shutters were such a creative idea. I've never seen that before. It's so incredible. You're truly amazing. Diana in AZ
I usually don’t bother with comments I rather keep them to myself but I would like to say, my dear friend, this video inspired me to make things again. I have already made the fireplace of course a little different but you have helped me mentally since the pandemic hit. Haven’t missed a video and I thank you for all the work and sweat you have put into making your magical place! You have so much to be proud of and nobody has the right to tell you otherwise 🌷☀️💓
Hi Mary, I have to say you create the most awesome items out of a piece, that otherwise would be thrown out..I know why i watch You because You're a genius, See you next time !
Beautiful. The first one and last one, you could cut a piece of glass to place on top so it becomes a levelled surface but you still see the shutters. Thank you for sharing. I have a few in my garage, with ideas but there are a few new ones here for me. 🙏 Gratitude.
Loved today’s videos on the shutters! This was so interesting watching the shutters come alive. It’s interesting watching Mary use the high powered saws!
Hi Mary , you are so beautiful so petite and there you are able to turn your hand to anything , your designs are amazing loved everything you did today , ❤
It’s me again. I just checked out the link for the transfer company you used but was disappointed that I did not see the transfer you used. I fell in love with it as you were using it. It had so many items that interest me. Oh well. ♥️😊👍
God has richly blessed you with amazing creative talent and the ability to think outside the box. Thank you for sharing your talent with us and giving us so many ideas to beautify our homes.
You inspire me every time I watch your videos. One thing that concerns and surprises me is not wearing safety glasses when using the big saw. It would be awful if something flew off of the saw and into your eye. Take care.
Great job as always! I still remember a set of very old white shutters I saw at the side of the road discarded from an old Victorian house in a very old historic town. I asked him to stop so I could pick them up from the curb but hubby said "no, it's junk" . And those shutters haunt me to this day, because I saw their potential awesomeness. Sadly hubby doesn't share in my creative vision.
Loved all of the projects. I just put old shutters in my booth to sell and I’m probably going to get them after seeing your video ❤❤❤ Thank you for sharing and inspiring your creativity
So many great ideas for old shutters, Mary. The transfer signs looked so easy to do, but so rich looking. You always inspire us, not sure I could come up with anything more creative for those shutters.
My favorite was the first one with the tea cups and saucers. I would never have imagined to display the plates that way. Excellent!
I absolutely love the transfers on the shutters!! You always make each project your own. ❤
I always get excited when I'm notified of a new White Cottage Co. Video from you, Mary. Thank you for continuing to inspire us!

So many great ideas for old shutters, Mary. The transfer signs looked so easy to do, but so rich looking. You always inspire us, not sure I could come up with anything more creative for those shutters.
Mary your hands are so strong!! Well done they all look beautiful.
