As a Chinese, the song basically uses all traditional Chinese musical instruments. I have not heard the feeling of electronic synthesis. The composer knows Chinese culture very well. I am grateful to the composer for creating such excellent ancient Chinese music.

WOW, a foreign artist writes a great Chinese style music and it is so good that even many Chinese musicians can not write a music containing such a pure Chinoiserie. As a Chinese , I must say the Chinoiserie is very strong. The dragon and immortals(the title "Xian" means immortals in Chinese ) appears vividly in our minds when we listen to the music.

I sincerely hope that is true.
      and yet, I know otherwise.
Huang tribe descended from western lands, possibly down the mountain-side of Tibetan plateau.
Armed with bronze weapons, they brought indigenous tribes, the nine peoples, to their knees, taking a fragment of each tribe's totem--antler of deer, snout of boar, claw of tiger, scale of fish, and so on--and merging them into the dragon we know.
Central plains are fertile and never knew peace; each of the four corners had foes, each with with an umbrella term.
Raids are but minor issues; some actually seized mandate of heaven, Zhou rose in the west, then Qin, later the five Hunnic tribes, followed by Jin of Jurchen, Yuan of Mongols and Qing of Manchu.
Wars and song of them are so abundant, refusal to fight have actually passed on.
Ballad of Mulan, on the surface, tells of a brave woman who fights in her father's stead, but the war heroine willfully left lofty station, for she never wanted to be part of it, be the liege Hunnic or Han.

Not quite true, Franklin. Even according to Chinese orthodox thinking, "The empire long united must divide - long divided, must unite." Civil war was a perennial issue in Chinese history even when there wasn't anyone else to fight, since after all the empire was rich and powerful and provided strong incentives to try and gain control of it at all costs. But beyond that, as kailliang mentions there's quite a few "official" dynasties whose origins actually lie in various nations and tribal groupings that, prior to their successful invasion, wouldn't previously have been considered proper Chinese (and some of which, after their invasion, still weren't - in particular the Yuan and Qing).
The fact is, steppe nomads aren't stupid. Raiding China for food was great and all, but a big reason to raid China was because it was a great source of luxuries and other trade goods not easy to acquire in the steppes. And even if one raids purely for food, raiding for food is dangerous and difficult - owning land and peasants and taxing them for food is safe and easy. If the opportunity arises and the dynasty is too weak to protect itself, why not move in and become lords and rulers, and so control ALL of the wealth of China, rather than merely nibbling at the edges and fleeing with scraps?
But leaving all that aside, even when China was united and stable ambitious Emperors have liked to try and leave their mark on history by expanding its frontiers, and they didn't do so by offering really nice fruit baskets. Wars were regularly fought in Central Asia, Southeast Asia (Vietnam has a long-standing and deep-seated distrust of China for this reason), Korea, and Tibet for reasons of trade, prestige, and outright conquest - it's worth noting that originally, "China" meant the Zhongyuan or Central Plains region, which is a pretty small fraction of what can be considered modern-day China. Long expansion and assimilation was what created the China we know today, and again, it wasn't accomplished with a song and dance number.
In short, war. War never changes.

Like the Great Dragon, we are long-lived.
We have seen the rise and fall of others, and yet we remain.
We have suffered wars, disasters and invasion. And still we persist on.
Like the Great Dragon, we have great wisdom.
We respect our elders, for they are a font of knowledge.
We worship our ancestors and those before, for history has much to teach us.
Like the Great Dragon, we are benevolent.
We share our knowledge, our culture, our writing with others.
Silk, Jade, Porcelain and Paper, our gifts to the world.
Like the Great Dragon, we are humble.
We honor our families and teachers, for what are we without their guidance?
Humility is a virtue, Confucius says. Give your utmost but take no credit.
We are the Descendants of the Dragon.
We have much to be proud of our ancestry. And we shall greet the future with resilience and dignity.

I was inspired by the epic music and picture and wanted to post something equally epic about ancient China. The eastern dragon was a good symbol to describe Chinese culture and so I likened China to one of its most beloved and respected mythological creatures.
The dragon is a symbol of the emperor and worshiped as a god in Chinese culture. Its long snake-like body represents China's unbroken lineage through the centuries. According to myth, it has great power over storms and weather but chooses (mostly) not to abuse it over humans.
"Descendants of the Dragon" is a term used to describe Chinese people. I'm Chinese but not from China, but still, I believe we should be proud of our own culture.

Thank you for your kind words. I'm glad you think so highly of Confucius and also a bit surprised at the fact you heard about him.
Sadly, Confucius (or Kong Fuzi) was born during a dark period of China's history. Warfare and strife were prevalent and his teachings were all but ignored by many warlords. Thankfully his teachings survived the centuries till today.

    • @raphaelzhou5422
      @raphaelzhou5422 7 ปีที่แล้ว +17

Драги Мелод I always believe it as one of the golden age of the Chinese civilization. I guess that Confucius was bit too romantic for his time, and his theory was so advanced that was not practical during the warring state.

    • @Shenzhou.
      @Shenzhou. 7 ปีที่แล้ว +54

I'm impressed with your knowledge of Chinese philosophers. Lao Tzu and Chuang Tzu were credited as fathers of Daoism (another religion in China) and Sun Tzu with the Art of War. Its funny how three belief systems (Confucianism, Daoism and later, Buddhism) can all coexist peacefully in China.
I guess you could say Confucius was born at an appropriate time for him to develop his own philosophies amidst the constant conflict. Indeed the core of his teachings is about being a person of virtue, someone others can look up to and emulate. It sounds like you are also well-versed in other religions such as Islam, Buddhism and even Atheism. Many people equate Islam with Terrorism because of ISIS and that is definitely not true. Most Muslims want peace just like us and want nothing to do with ISIS.
I'm honored that you feel that way about me and there's really no shame in admitting it. People gain respect for each other because of their words and actions and not because of their origins. Some people I know dislike Chinese people because of ingrained stereotypes and a perceived threat due to the rise of China but Chinese are really just ordinary people and shouldn't be judged solely by the actions of their government.

Its normal practice for them in China, maybe some of their actions seem weird and rude, but this all has to do with differences between not just cultures but where people grow up. And when people dont understand such differences it leads to prejudice and stereotypes, same for not just across races, but religion, nationality, ideology, gender, and everything that separates us cause we all have our own identity. Many wont even know that they are perceived as being rude. So we you meet people who are different from you, maybe try to accept differences (different from tolerating them!!):)

"physically immortal; immortal person; immortalist; saint" (in Daoist religion and pantheon)

Dragon Riders, I can completely understand why you would think that, but I don’t think that’s what this person meant.
Chinese music covers a huge spread of genres, from soothing to spirited to romantic to dramatic. Unfortunately, it seems that when many people, including ones who aren’t Chinese, make Chinese themed music, they stick to one genre that is calm and relaxing, and so the full scope and depth of Chinese music isn’t properly displayed.
Far from being disrespectful, I believe what they were trying to express was their appreciation that someone was trying to explore a side of this music that isn’t easily found on TH-cam. Peaceful Chinese music is amazing, and I love to listen to it, but it seems that often people only post that kind, like it was the only kind of Chinese music to listen to.

Please make more Chinese battle music! Xian and The Forbidden City are my favorite songs of all time!
Edit: It's four years later and these two songs are still my favourite songs. They literally inspired the sci-fi/ fantasy story I've been creating since I was 16, and I can go through almost every second of this and Xian and 'see' a music video/ scenes in my head about the aliens/ humans that live on the planet, and the specific characters/ cultures as well (the planet is even named Xian in honor of this song, bc this one and The Forbidden City (not to mention heaps of other Antii Martikainen songs) inspired the world the most). Love your work, and I hope you make more Chinese songs in the future

Fantastic! More of this! I've been looking for epic Chinese-style music for a long time, to listen to while reading wuxia stuff or while planning some wuxia-inspired stories of my own. I've mostly only found beautiful Chinese music, epic battle music seems to be so, so rare, only to be found on some OST's. As I started reading Douluo Dalu yesterday, I searched again, and finally found this, a great fit. I've yet to listen to many of your pieces, but while they're all great, this is by far my favourite so far. I'm so buying this album.
