- Passengers on a Spirit Airlines flight from Jamaica to Florida were told to prepare for a possible water landing after the aircraft was turned around due to an apparent mechanical problem, a passenger told CNN. The airbus safely returned to Montego Bay, Jamaica, “out of an abundance of caution following a suspected mechanical issue,” the airline said in a statement. The passengers were deplaned and later put on a different plane to reach their destination.
Whatever you may say about the airline, that pilot is a treasure for being able to recognize, act and land safely

Literally systems telling him what is happening so he doesn't need to recognize anything. "Act" literally has a book that tells him what to do in that situation. "Land safely" quite literally nothing has been said about the plane having any issues affecting it's flight or ability to land... So he landed a plane that as far as we know had no issues with its ability to fly or land.... Safely.

To the passengers who for that moment in time knew how it felt to have their lives in someone else’s hands! You trusted in God, the Pilot, and Crew and remained calm! You are all heroes!

According to the MEL (Minimum equipment list) of the A320 series, airspeed and AOA sensors must all be working in order for the aircraft to be cleared for takeoff. Even if nothing happened their pilots license would be revoked if they continued with the flight
All in all I’m just elated to hear that the plane landed safely on LAND and everyone was safe with no injuries!!! 🙌🏾🙏🏾

The chiming is the fasten your seat belt and an emergency landing they have all the time. I was in One at SeaTac airport on a Southwest flight 1975, but almost came in belly first and with fire trucks laying down foam in an abundance of caution.
Be grateful u wasn’t far for the airport. That’s the risk you take when flying to different places .Nothing is 100% safe.Think about if your check engine light comes on on on the freeway and u have to take precautions to make sure you arrive to your destination safely until you can get to a mechanic shop.

Just fly them domestically. They aren't too bad if they have a direct flight to a short distance.

Not the specific airlines fault. I'm a retired airforce mechanic. Aircraft has redundant backup systems. When life is at risk. The crew acted perfectly.

On the A320, three repeated chimes like that alerts the cabin crew that there is an emergency. If possible, the plane should not have taken off. To my understanding, this alarm is automatic.
That would be true if they havent passed a speed threshold, if they did they cant stop and needed to take off and turn back and this is what happened here.

So thankful to the pilot who landed safely!!! I have seen sooo many airplanes this year with sooo many emergency landings...getting a bit scared to fly. I know the saying. It's safer than driving but aaaaa 🤷♀️🤦♀️

I'm surprised Spirit airline airplanes have functioning engines....
They are a discounted airline company but they are pretty safe. The aircrafts are made by Airbus and most of their engines are made by Rolls-Royce. They have been proven to be much safer then Boeing of late.

We had a emergency crash landing on spirit 2014 we had to stay in the air to let out some gas the flaps wouldn't come up on the Spirit Airline we hit the ground so hard my jaw was sore my left side was in pain for years and they didn't want to hear it I never got a dime from Spirit I probably flew it again but if you can stay off of spirit

If they couldnt make the runway, the pilot probably made the right decision going over the water. Seems like a better option for that lady then the hills to the right.
In my opinion, deregulation plays a big roll in this. These standards were made for a reason. To end them will cost lives.Think about that before you vote for someone who is willing to deregulate just to save the rich and shameless money. Would you be willing to fly if you knew the door could fly off? Or what just happened here? I wouldn't.

Is the wing supposed to be bent upward? Probably not
The upward curve at the wingtips are called winglets. They improve aerodynamic efficiency by reducing induced drag caused by wingtip vortices. Winglets allow the aircraft to fly more efficiently, reducing fuel consumption.

Sounds like an obstructed pitot tube (used for measuring airspeed) or a stuck AOA sensor (used for measuring angle of attack). This is not a life threatening situation, there are 3 of these systems on board and only one is needed for the plane to fly safely, the pilots need to figure out which sensor is giving the incorrect data by leveling the plane and put it in a constant known speed to see which data is incorrect. After that they can either divert or return to the nearest airport
