    I agree with every comment! Worst thing I did for my hair was stop using grease because "it's greasy, it's oily" lol. Ever since I've gone back my hair has retained moisture, length, and health. My hair is no longer dry, its moisturized for days even weeks if I get lazy.

      Same for me Lissa ! I wasted 6 years messing with grape seed oil and other popular natural hair products. Resulted in DRYNESS, thinning, and scalp eczema. I’m relaxed, but when I started using Softee as a sealant my hair growth exploded exponentially! No more dryness, breakage or dull hair. I went from armpit length to just below bra strap length in less than a year.
    After five years of being on a hair journey I finally narrowed down the products that work for me. But the grease was the magic potion or catalyst to it all. Your hair is beautiful by the way dear!💕💕

    • @MarauderEvans

      @@sashaeunoia I usually wash my hair 1x a week and I don't touch my hair until next wash day. My hair is always in a scarf since I WFH lol. If I wash every 2 weeks then I usually moisturize after 1 week and it goes on without a problem, but I do not use a lot of vaseline to seal to begin with and after 1 week my hair will be thirsty for a lil something anyway. Vaseline won't just lay there until next wash day, some of it does absorb into your hair as time goes on like any product so the room for moisture isn't gone, just smaller if that makes sense.

    • @HoneeyBee3
      @HoneeyBee3 3 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      Same!! I had to apologize to my ancestors because when I first went natural I swore grease was the devil 😭!!! It has helped me retain so much length and Ive grown (or really retained) almost more hair in the past 2 years with grease than without it!!
      Im currently tailbone length...but 2 years of using grease and my hair went from about 1 to 2 inches below BSL to tailbone length!! Before that I was stuck around BSL for about 2 years no matter how much I would baby my hair.

      @@deandrajames1792 I only use grease to seal as well! I only apply ayurvedic or my own DIY solutions to my scalp.
      I was taught to use grease on the scalp, which is bad and can clog hair follicles. This is why I swore grease was so bad and was turned off from it when I went natural. But when I started using it right, only as a sealant, never on the scalp...then it started working for me! Not sure how that tradition got crossed, cuz a lot of parents taught kids to grease their scalps...but you'd always hear parents or relatives say they'd "just put water and grease on their hair and go." And when I asked them more about it, it was always used like a sealant as well! Why did they tell us to grease our scalps!? 😂
      I only apply certain oil mixes, rice water, ayurvedic tea mixtures, or my own DIYs to my scalp.

      @@roxjnie9028 My hair doesn't respond that way. Hair is different 🤷🏾‍♀️

    • @HoneeyBee3
      @HoneeyBee3 3 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      @@roxjnie9028 I was speaking on what the ancestors did...and their hair seemed fine with just water and grease. They had huge afros and long braids. People forget water is a great moisturizer all by itself (sometimes it's not enough on its own, but it can be). For example, when you get out the shower, dry off, and put vaseline on before your skin is fully dry....the skin remains baby soft because some moisture is still trapped in the skin barrier. It's rare if a person is still ashy because the water doesn't exactly evaporate from underneath the vaseline. It creates a barrier and the skin "drinks" the moisture and adds hydration. So in theory, it kinda works this way with the hair. The grease doesnt completely seal the hair but creates a nice barrier so its harder for water to escape...but water can still get in. If you notice, your hair isnt fully water proof when you wash it. For example, if I mist my hair or do a semi wash and go but just drenching it with water...my hair doesnt repel the water...it still capable of absorbing the water though through the layer of grease that is already on. The hair acts like a rag, and any spot that isnt fully sealed, attracts water, and the water absorbs throughout the hair shaft, underneath the barrier of grease. My hair still gets wet. So the grease is not smothering the hair and fully sealing off the shaft. It operates almost the way our natural sebum does. At least that's what I noticed and have pieced together just by trying it myself and tweaking my regimen to work for me.
      And I always have moisture as I dont use just water. I add vegetable glycerine to my water with some other products, spray my hair, then use a layer of coconut oil all over, then seal with grease.
      Veg glycerine emulsifies in water so it's able to penetrate the hair shaft and act as a humectant in which is draws in moisture (and it leaves it there if sealed properly)....and then I layer on coconut oil which also penetrates the hair shaft and adds moisture. But coconut oil...since it can penetrate the hair shaft, it can exit the hair shaft too (just like water) and make the hair feel dryer if not properly sealed and this is why peoole think it acts as a protein and makes the hair feel hard. I always thought my hair HATED coconut oil until I learned this. So I started sealing it into my hair with grease, and voila!! My hair actually loves it, is soft and holds moisture for days! I can go probably a week without touching my hair, but I always spray my growth and scalp leave in sprays every other day out of habit lol. But I only add grease once or twice before wash day. Sometimes I dont need to add it again. Just depends how my hair feels.
      And I always clarify with a baking soda water spray to lift my cuticles, wash with my diy African black soap shampoo, then rinse with acv water to close my hair cuticles. The baking soda and acv lifts the grease off the hair, so I can start with fresh hair every time. My curls are more defined, barely have any frizz, thicker and longer than it's ever been. People just have to research, experiment & find what works for them. What works for one may not work for another, and science isnt always so black and white. Science told us perms were BAD FOR YEARS...but it was still marketed to black people and used traditionally. And for awhile science said...theoretically rice water shouldn't work when the hype first popped up, but it does. Not aruging!!! Just putting things into perspective.
      I was one of those people that only used shea butter, olive oil etc and babied my hair before grease and I hit a growth plateau without changing anything like doet or meds etc. When your hair gets long, it gets expensive. Maybe it stopped working because it was absorbing more product and I wasnt heavy handed enough maybe. But grease has been working perfectly for me and is a rather inexpensive tweak to my cost effective routine lol.
      Sorry for writing so much, but this topic really interests me LOL. I need to start my own channel 🤣.

    My hair has never been longer/thicker/healthier than when I'm greasing it to the scalp. Blue Magic is a staple! Because I grease & moisturize so heavy-handed (I have DRY hair), I use a clarifying shampoo (Tresemme mostly or a $1 Suave shampoo) every two weeks when I wash. The clarifying shampoo has not damaged or dried out my scalp or hair. After shampooing, I condition, deep condition for 30 minutes w/ a heated cap, wash that out, apply a heat protectant, a leave in conditioner & then use Jamaican Black Castor oil. Then I blow dry, flat iron on 380°, grease my scalp & roll up my hair. It's been working for me. The grease keeps my hair moisturized for a solid 3.5 to 4.5 days. I lightly grease my scalp in the summer & am heavier handed with grease in the winter. I find that the grease travels down from my scalp, be it via a comb or by my slightly greasy hands, it just travels down from my scalp & onto my hair strands. By greasing the scalp and allowing the grease to naturally travel down as I massage it into my scalp with my fingers, it stops my hair strands from being super weighed down while also sealing the moisture into the strands. Every time that I've given up grease, my hair starts to awfully shed, lose its thickness, shine & overall health. Our Grans & Moms were right: all you need is water, a good hair grease & edge control, lol. No more blowing money on all these oils & other products that waste money & don't look/feel half as good.

    I’m so glad I never stopped using grease! I just couldn’t stop having my husband grease my scalp..I couldn’t
    I used Dax growing up, and blue magic later on. I started off with the coconut oil one for my scalp, and then transferred to the super sure grow, but mainly because it spread over my scalp easier and because of the smell. Now I seal my ends with the coconut oil grease and I can see a notable difference in length retention.
    I love grease and will never stop using it because it is what has ALWAYS worked for me!

    When I was small I was using vaseline with petrolium jelly mix with castor oil my hair was doing great. When I left my home (I"m from the West Indies) I still kept using but my hair wasn't doing ok with the different wheater conditions so 10 years ago I started using Dax the green one on my hair and even on my daughters and our hair started to break. My hair was so damage I had to cut my hair very short 4 yeasrs ago i just didn't see the signs that my hair wasn't doing ok and my daughter hair thank god only the back was breaking so I started using castor oil (my grandmother made for me she had it ready when I went back home) mix with coconut Oil (made it myself) in our hair and and is doing great now.

Key for me is to not be heavy handed with the grease as it doesn’t take much to moisturize and seal.

      Grease is not a moisturizer it’s a sealant. You need water before grease or your hair will dry out.

    • @SourStrawberrys
      @SourStrawberrys 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@LiterallyArtt Oil is a sealant, grease not necessarily. Never needed water on my hair before using grease to moisturize it. It is thick enough substance to protect the hair and keep it lubricanted for longer periods of time. Similar to baby oil vs Vaseline on skin. To me baby oil does nothing for the skin but sit on it, but keep putting Vaseline something like the feet and it will soften any dry skin. Grease softens and rehydrates. Pure oil just seals whatever moisture that is already there. They don't work the same.
