I'm not a big Harry Potter fan. Or really a fan at all actually. I'm in my 40s and it just wasn't part of my childhood like so many people. But I have watched the movies and enjoyed them. But aside from knowing the basic lore, I'm not that familiar with this world. However, I'm definitely picking this up because it looks like a fantastic experience. I'm excited about this game not because it's the Hogwarts experience fans have always wanted, but because it's a new experience to me. And kudos to the developer. They delivered on their promises and didn't lie or exaggerate anything. My hope is developers like this can start making the big developers nervous and force them to start being creative and put in more effort again.
I hope my wife can play this game because she is the Potterhead in our household but she struggles with 3rd and 1st person games. The only game she's played so far (and to great length) was Diablo 3.
DO NOT buy this for PC - it includes the cancer which is Denuvo DRM. Corporate greed is giving us games that are slowed down on purpose. When you buy a game with DRM, you are not buying it. You are renting it. PC gamers should stand up to this bs and let companies know it is not okay to brandish the work of passionate developers with this bs.

And I'm glad the biggest negative seemed to be itemization being a bit of a miss, because that's the sort of thing that's VERY easy to mod typically! As someone who loves diving into every game to tweak values I didn't find as engaging, that is great news that it's something like that that missed instead of say, voice acting, or bugginess, or something much harder to fix up like that.
In the future, if they release DLC, I'd like quests around Halloween and Christmas. To see Hogwarts decorated for Christmas? Magical. Can't wait to get a PS5 and this will probably be the first game I play.

@@austinpaul3040 I respectfully disagree. Angry Joe said that he loved Mortal Kombat X but I played it and I didn’t like it at all. The story made absolutely no sense and it was about three hours long. The multiplier was garbage because of the amount of lag.
Been playing exclusively on fidelity mode. I can honestly say it hasn’t taken me out the experience at all, it’s quite the contrary. A huge reason why me and many other people bought this game was to feel like you’re actually in this world. Fidelity mode makes the world look absolutely breathtaking. Flying around on the broom exploring and taking in the scenery at sunset, wandering the castle examining the fine details of the design, the way light bounces off objects and reflects realistically. It’s pure emersion and I’m absolutely loving it
I haven't tried fidelity yet, I heard it drops your FPS dramatically. Performance mode is smooth as butter and still looks amazing. I'm mainly a PC player but I'm playing this title on my PS5 because of the optimization. I have an extremely hard time playing even at 60FPS when I'm so used to 120FPS and up.

I feel like I outgrew it quite quickly and my attention turned to The Lord of the Rings, even Warhammer and stuff. Harry Potter felt more childlike, but I wanted blood and orcs. I read the first three books, watched the first couple of films, played the games, but quickly lost interest and have no idea how the story ends. I'm thinking about getting this, as it might be a good way to learn the lore. It looks great!

As a Harry Potter fan I really love the feeling in this game, I can live my Hogwarts fantasy. I am not that far into the game yet, but so far the story is pretty good too, fits very well into this universe.
Just a quick clarification portkey is not a studio but a sub title for every project in the wizarding world. The devs are Avalanche Software, they been releasing title since 1996. They were mainly known Disney Infinity and WB pick them up when Disney kill the gaming division.
Its nice - not every game has to be dark souls like, or battle royal , whcih seems to be the majority nowadays. Having a triple A game thats Fable like is kinda nice -- i dont expect anything profoundly new, just something done well - whcih for some reason is a reaaally difficult ask nowadays - havent felt this buzz since elder scrolls online came out (uuhh we ignore the NMS fiasco , cough cough)
16 spells in a wizard game... what a joke, skyrim has more spells just in 1 of its categories or skill steps. even elden ring has more spells, and hogwarts is a damn wizarding game... To be fair, graphics looks nice, ambient looks good,.. but you cant dive but swim? why would i ever swim then.... combat looks typical console game combat, oh indicator there indicator here, press the right color... looks like a children game, so dissapointed, had high hopes for it, but since the studio only made children games, i shouldve not expected more

We've been asking for this since we were kids. this is truly a dream come true. we've had so many hours of fun that we'll probably be sorry to see it end. a true adversary for TLOZ Tears of the kingdom.
That's the game I wanted and waited for basically all my childhood. So expectations are big in terms of immersion and that Harry Potter experience. On first glance I don't have to worry about that. Thanks for the video!
The HP games were my childhood. Especially the PS1 and PS2 titles. To this day I adore those games, but this is something my inner child can't help but cry out in excitement about! If he knew this game was going to exist I know it would have blown his mind.
This might sound weird but I feel like I'd almost prefer if the items didn't have any stats at all? Like, it doesn't fit with the world super well, it makes the game feel more like the dozens of other loot collectathons out there, and considering it's a game about a student attending school I think them being purely cosmetic would make a lot of sense.
Key word there “devs” its not entirely up to them if theres mtx or no mtx. If the publisher aka WB sees potential in loads of cash in mtx WB will definitely request them be put in. Lets be honest here, how many people are gonna be playing this game? Millions? You really think WB wont add mtx for that many people playing this big a game you on something. 🤣🤣

The game looks average... A giant repetitive game with a poor item system, dumbed down skills, and mini map staring. How's the gameplay? You don't even mention the combat.... How about enemy variation? Bosses? Difficulty? Skill based or button smashing? Combining spells in cool ways? Broom based fighting? Where does this game push the boundaries in any way? It's close to the "Perfect Harry Potter Game" as you state in your conclusions. I feel like your main complaints don't really translate well into the overall "It's everything you want" -item system is so bad you don't pay attention to what you get unless it's legendary. -RPG with one stat line (this one alone should have your game banished from steam) -Activities are very repetitive -Story is casual and lighthearted which is a major con considering the first couple things we just mentioned. -Microtransactions in a full price game, the fact it's not open during review period should tell you all you need to know. -Better graphics which you throw in at the end.. Maybe it's Unreal Engine 4 over saturation but I feel like I've played and completed this game without ever touching it.
I was just on The Guardian's review of this game where they gave it 3 stars out of 5 while mentioning J.K. Rowling's "Transphobic" comments (which were not btw) and another review which called the world in this game "lifeless" and gave it 60/100. These people are not being objective when looking at the gameplay here.
Yeah, this game is actually really great and you can feel it was a work of passion as you play it. J.K. Rowlings transphobic comments (which they were btw) should be totally left out of the discussion of this game and the HP world in general since that work of fiction doesn't reflect her views anyway. This game is also actually quite trans friendly, more so than the vast majority of games, so I really don't know what people are complaining about.

I never could get into the series, but I love detailed open world rpg's so I'll be giving this a go in a few months once any bugs are patched out and there's a good selection of mods to add in. Looks amazing.
As much as this game has met and exceeded our expectations I am very much looking forward to the sequels. If this is supposed to be a trilogy then I really think they can make a GOTD.
I love the mysterious dark vibe it has sometimes with a mix of fable 2 energy when you walkin through the forest I swear I was just on hogwarts all day mane lol I did not expect it to be this good the side quests are fun af too I love the way you can customize your living space
Great review I honestly don’t mind bad itemization as long as the way you get them is fun, to me exploration is it’s own reward so I’m wondering if it’s strong in that regard.
Itemization/Loot also feels like something a series of patches could easily and steadily improve on. I don't think it makes a huge difference out of the gate if they rest of it is a hit.
I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve explored so far. There seems to be a bunch of outfits cause I have a bunch in only like 8 hours of gameplay. And I like how they did the customization for the outfits. You can change the look of any piece of gear to something you have found or unlocked that you might like the look of better but has bad stats
Established studios have destroyed franchises while underrated studios are doing an incredible job with AAA titles. History of work is important but not the end all, be all and this proves that.
I think it ultimately comes down to the fact that the big AAA devs used to have gamers working to make game for gamers, publishers too, but as gaming became more and more of a mainstream piece of media it's started to become a business than just a passion project, which leads to where we're at now. And so the indie devs and smaller dev teams now have the torch passed down to them to make passionate games that not only makes the consumer want to play and enjoy it but to also please the developers who also want to play it.
as a fellow gamer that's never watched any Harry Potter or lord of the rings movies this game is fantastic it's really magical. so don't be afraid of purchasing this one if you've never watched Harry Potter or any of them fantasy titles

This game made me cry. I have been re-reading the books over and over for years and now getting to play a game with so many cool Easter eggs, references, and characters who were mentioned in the games was something that made my year better. The developers clearly care so much about the series and the world and want to make it better which I can say they have successfully done.
Same, I’ve read the books probably a dozen times, and this game feels so genuine and authentic within the world of Harry Potter. You can tell it was made by true fans
I'm happy it worked out well for Avalanche making the game. Apart from maybe Toy Story 3 which is a shockingly good tie in game they never really got time to make a good game. Everything they made was like a year apart to suit Disney's schedules and deadlines which is bound to result in pure garbage so taking their time with this has clearly worked.
Don’t know exactly how development went myself but I’m pretty sure all the main development was done by Avalanche so they really deserve the credit. I started and love how well designed the world is more than anything. I immediately wished this is the kind of game I could get for Lord of the Rings, at least in attention to detail in the world.
Avalanche? That makes a lot of sense, then. They did the Just Cause games, which were all about finding your own fun (imo), and they succeeded. So, if you get some of them being Harry Potter fans themselves, this type of passion project is understandable. It's like a bespoke, curated open world (I know that technically EVERY game is bespoke, but you know what I mean), like Elden Ring and Breath of the Wild. They all have repeating items and such, but that sorta stuff flies when the world is built with such love. It only gets really shitty when you have a bland or boring world coupled with uninspired questing. It's really cool that they were able to nail this so specifically. Shit, I'd love for someone to do this for Berserk. I mean, I've basically convinced myself that Elden Ring *IS* Berserk, but something 1:1 for it would be incredible.
@@justinkroboth360 Actually there are two big game dev studios named Avalanche (one should really change their name ) which makes it even more confusing! This Avalanche is the one that made Disney Infinity, so even more impressive they were given this project and nailed it so well, that’s a big change and undertaking. Very happy for them being successful

Basically have forgotten about it since. I just am bored with Mordor and want the prettier type of locations to be showcased really well in a game. @@RedGaming44 Ah I see I loved Shadow of War more. Get more of backstory for quite a few Lord of the rings characters. More of a free roam world and new mounts, story is miles better in my opinion too as you get more story of Tailon to experience. Bosses are amazing too. Haven’t played dlc’s for shadow of war they serve as a bit backstory of a few characters too. There’s the Gollum gaming coming out soon if you want to know about his story before events of Lord of the rings too
Gonna be honest. Probs a skip for me. I've never particularly cared about Harry Potter or its world, and the lack of itemization is a huge deal breaker for me. Despite not being a Souls gamer, Elden Ring managed to draw me in and scratch a pretty significant itch that very few games do. Being able build a character either through optimization or theming is very important to me. It's why I love things like DnD, Elden Ring, Monster Hunter, etc.. The freedom to find, create, and optimize a build that fits you like a glove is THE most important thing to me behind pure cosmetic customization. Having a REALLY good character creator is usually my biggest hook, even if you don't end up seeing your character's face for a good majority of the game... Elden Ring.
Only thing I think of that I don't like in this game is the flying controls. I've been using a broom for a while now and I'm still not used to the controls. I kinda wish you could configure them

Another full price game with micro-transactions on release. I wonder when gamers started to accept that things that should be unlocked through gameplay, are suddenly cut out of a game and sold back to them piece by piece. "Just cosmetics" is a poor excuse. Those should be rewards for challenges or achievements and not some nickle-and-dime monetization.
I mean they did say that you can buy the Dark Arts Pack even without the Deluxe Edition. I guess it’s the way you can buy Pre-Order exclusives even after release (that’s just an option idk if that’s what it’s gonna be)

@@merrydoc1051 the only problem i have with a day one patch is that it will not be live when the people who play 72 hours earlier get to play it. Day one patch should be available from the very moment people get to play the game, not just at the retail release date. 10-15 years ago games did not receive patches as much. I am not saying there were no or less bugs in games then their are now, but atleast games where for the most part finished (and would eithet never have any patches , or only one patch). Nowadays games get released broken with performanche iseus's and glitches. An even bigger iseu is that developers nowadays try to optimize for graphically fidelity instead of performanch. Wehter whe will get to 4K 120 fps in the future as a performanche marker or not, there will still be alot of games that perform under the (then) current performanche specifications. So to me it does not matter if the game does not looke as nice as the new god of war or spiderman, as long as the performanche is stable (wether it is 30 fps or 60 ). Stabil framerate is more important then a high framerate for me atleast.

I love how this game looks, I absolutely waited for something like this. BUT as a PC gamer I cannot support a game which includes DRM. When you"buy" a game which includes DRM, you don't buy it. You rent it, and you pay for a product which is purposefully slowed down because of corporate greed. Every PC gamer should avoid buying games with DRM like the plague or soon all games will have it.
Minor correction. Portkey Games is not a studio, it is a publishing label. Avalanche Software (not Studios!) Is the developer in this instance. It is not their first game, but it is certainly their first game as ambitious as this one. (They were responsible for Disney Infinity and many Disney licensed video games for many years prior.)
It is really interesting how Warners calculated "anti-marketing" campaign tricked all of you into playing literally the wokest game of the last 5 years. It has more strong "in your face" female characters like every game before, vast majority of "good" characters are female, all the bad guys are white men, its full of diversity and has even a transgender character. So all it took was an artifical backlash and everyone accepted EVEN MORE of the things they hated virtually in every game before. This is highly amusing lol.

There's little enemy variety and you should not be expecting Elden Ring level tinkering and entertainment, HOWEVER I did find the overall spellmixing and casting to be fun and well done, so combat was not a complete drag like it can be with many of these kinds of games. TLDR: don't buy this game for the combat. Do buy this game regardless of the combat.

A bit late for me, but I ordered the game and want to play it. I dig what I see because it is open and so many options of paths one can take. It looks really good so far. I'm not a big gammer, and I enjoy HP though not a Potter head, but I really like what I see with this game. Looks fun and stirs the imagination.
Just a reminder to everybody, get your workouts in while you can because as soon as this game drops, some people are just gonna be on it for weeks at a time
Loved the lore of Harry Potter and the accuracy of it. But other than that it's just a below average game. Choices don't matter. Choosing a house doesn't matter only the last part changes a little. NPCs are dead, combats are repetitive. 6/10
Ugh I’m torn. On one hand I’m a Harry Potter fan but the fact itemisation is not good for an open world game like this is severely off putting. I hate when games can’t figure out their rpg elements and the foundations of the game first. Feels rushed!
The only annoyance I have is inventory space. You're only limited to 20 items at the start which is nowhere near enough. Wish they had a chest that stored anything you picked up instead of preventing you from picking up the item. The main story is ok but where the game really shines is the details and overall gameplay. Flying on your broom and seeing Hogwarts just makes me smile all the time. This is a dream for HP fans. Lots of things to do in the game also which is great. For me it's a solid 8/10. Would've gotten higher if the main story was a little more interesting.
Many reviews are talking about the character progression and level system. Personally, I would have loved to grow up and have gone to the School. I feel like that could have been an interesting way to "level up" and progress your character. Then once you are in your final year (maybe like 1/4 into the game) then the game opens up and starts to give you really powerful magic.

I like your optimism, but unfortunately, it is much harder to change a loot system than implement it well from the beginning. They would have to go and tweak each enemy encounter at the very least.
@@tremor230 yeah, that would be easy but this sort of change does nothing for the game. They would have to make the enemies do more damage and have more defenses in order to compensate and not make the game too easy, so in the end the game will feel the same. For the loot system to feel good they need to change major things like adjusting the drop rates of items based on rarity, adding interesting stats to make items feel impactful (e.g: maybe you find a legendary wand that has a unique stat that makes unforgivable curses more powerful somehow), etc. These sorts of changes are not easy to implement since you would have to readjust major aspects of the game.

I did the NZ trick (I live in the US) and have been playing it all this morning. It is phenomenal. I keep taking videos and screenshots because it’s just that beautiful. The gameplay feels good, the combat is responsive and quick with a good balance of offense/defense, and the story has enraptured me already. I’m so glad it’s turned out well :) for anyone who wants to play today just swap to NZ and cast Revelio.
@@valaurus7473 I have a 120hz screen so I have it on Performance but with an uncapped framerate. Averages about 65-70fps I’d say. VRR makes it smooth. With how quick the action is I would do Performance no matter what.

And I'm glad the biggest negative seemed to be itemization being a bit of a miss, because that's the sort of thing that's VERY easy to mod typically! As someone who loves diving into every game to tweak values I didn't find as engaging, that is great news that it's something like that that missed instead of say, voice acting, or bugginess, or something much harder to fix up like that.
In the future, if they release DLC, I'd like quests around Halloween and Christmas. To see Hogwarts decorated for Christmas? Magical. Can't wait to get a PS5 and this will probably be the first game I play.

@@austinpaul3040 I respectfully disagree. Angry Joe said that he loved Mortal Kombat X but I played it and I didn’t like it at all. The story made absolutely no sense and it was about three hours long. The multiplier was garbage because of the amount of lag.
Been playing exclusively on fidelity mode. I can honestly say it hasn’t taken me out the experience at all, it’s quite the contrary. A huge reason why me and many other people bought this game was to feel like you’re actually in this world. Fidelity mode makes the world look absolutely breathtaking. Flying around on the broom exploring and taking in the scenery at sunset, wandering the castle examining the fine details of the design, the way light bounces off objects and reflects realistically. It’s pure emersion and I’m absolutely loving it
I haven't tried fidelity yet, I heard it drops your FPS dramatically. Performance mode is smooth as butter and still looks amazing. I'm mainly a PC player but I'm playing this title on my PS5 because of the optimization. I have an extremely hard time playing even at 60FPS when I'm so used to 120FPS and up.

I feel like I outgrew it quite quickly and my attention turned to The Lord of the Rings, even Warhammer and stuff. Harry Potter felt more childlike, but I wanted blood and orcs. I read the first three books, watched the first couple of films, played the games, but quickly lost interest and have no idea how the story ends. I'm thinking about getting this, as it might be a good way to learn the lore. It looks great!

As a Harry Potter fan I really love the feeling in this game, I can live my Hogwarts fantasy. I am not that far into the game yet, but so far the story is pretty good too, fits very well into this universe.
Just a quick clarification portkey is not a studio but a sub title for every project in the wizarding world. The devs are Avalanche Software, they been releasing title since 1996. They were mainly known Disney Infinity and WB pick them up when Disney kill the gaming division.
Its nice - not every game has to be dark souls like, or battle royal , whcih seems to be the majority nowadays. Having a triple A game thats Fable like is kinda nice -- i dont expect anything profoundly new, just something done well - whcih for some reason is a reaaally difficult ask nowadays - havent felt this buzz since elder scrolls online came out (uuhh we ignore the NMS fiasco , cough cough)

To be fair, graphics looks nice, ambient looks good,.. but you cant dive but swim? why would i ever swim then.... combat looks typical console game combat, oh indicator there indicator here, press the right color... looks like a children game, so dissapointed, had high hopes for it, but since the studio only made children games, i shouldve not expected more

The HP games were my childhood. Especially the PS1 and PS2 titles. To this day I adore those games, but this is something my inner child can't help but cry out in excitement about! If he knew this game was going to exist I know it would have blown his mind.

This might sound weird but I feel like I'd almost prefer if the items didn't have any stats at all? Like, it doesn't fit with the world super well, it makes the game feel more like the dozens of other loot collectathons out there, and considering it's a game about a student attending school I think them being purely cosmetic would make a lot of sense.

1. Male Ravenclaw
2. Female Gryffindor
3. Female Hufflepuff
4. Male Slytherin
The game looks average... A giant repetitive game with a poor item system, dumbed down skills, and mini map staring. How's the gameplay? You don't even mention the combat.... How about enemy variation? Bosses? Difficulty? Skill based or button smashing? Combining spells in cool ways? Broom based fighting?
Where does this game push the boundaries in any way? It's close to the "Perfect Harry Potter Game" as you state in your conclusions.
I feel like your main complaints don't really translate well into the overall "It's everything you want"
-item system is so bad you don't pay attention to what you get unless it's legendary.
-RPG with one stat line (this one alone should have your game banished from steam)
-Activities are very repetitive
-Story is casual and lighthearted which is a major con considering the first couple things we just mentioned.
-Microtransactions in a full price game, the fact it's not open during review period should tell you all you need to know.
-Better graphics which you throw in at the end..

I was just on The Guardian's review of this game where they gave it 3 stars out of 5 while mentioning J.K. Rowling's "Transphobic" comments (which were not btw) and another review which called the world in this game "lifeless" and gave it 60/100. These people are not being objective when looking at the gameplay here.

Yeah, this game is actually really great and you can feel it was a work of passion as you play it. J.K. This game is also actually quite trans friendly, more so than the vast majority of games, so I really don't know what people are complaining about.

I never could get into the series, but I love detailed open world rpg's so I'll be giving this a go in a few months once any bugs are patched out and there's a good selection of mods to add in. Looks amazing.

Great review I honestly don’t mind bad itemization as long as the way you get them is fun, to me exploration is it’s own reward so I’m wondering if it’s strong in that regard.
Itemization/Loot also feels like something a series of patches could easily and steadily improve on. I don't think it makes a huge difference out of the gate if they rest of it is a hit.

I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve explored so far. There seems to be a bunch of outfits cause I have a bunch in only like 8 hours of gameplay. And I like how they did the customization for the outfits. You can change the look of any piece of gear to something you have found or unlocked that you might like the look of better but has bad stats

Established studios have destroyed franchises while underrated studios are doing an incredible job with AAA titles. History of work is important but not the end all, be all and this proves that.
I think it ultimately comes down to the fact that the big AAA devs used to have gamers working to make game for gamers, publishers too, but as gaming became more and more of a mainstream piece of media it's started to become a business than just a passion project, which leads to where we're at now.
And so the indie devs and smaller dev teams now have the torch passed down to them to make passionate games that not only makes the consumer want to play and enjoy it but to also please the developers who also want to play it.

I have been re-reading the books over and over for years and now getting to play a game with so many cool Easter eggs, references, and characters who were mentioned in the games was something that made my year better.
The developers clearly care so much about the series and the world and want to make it better which I can say they have successfully done.
Same, I’ve read the books probably a dozen times, and this game feels so genuine and authentic within the world of Harry Potter. You can tell it was made by true fans
I'm happy it worked out well for Avalanche making the game. Apart from maybe Toy Story 3 which is a shockingly good tie in game they never really got time to make a good game. Everything they made was like a year apart to suit Disney's schedules and deadlines which is bound to result in pure garbage so taking their time with this has clearly worked.
Don’t know exactly how development went myself but I’m pretty sure all the main development was done by Avalanche so they really deserve the credit.
I started and love how well designed the world is more than anything. I immediately wished this is the kind of game I could get for Lord of the Rings, at least in attention to detail in the world.
Avalanche? That makes a lot of sense, then. They did the Just Cause games, which were all about finding your own fun (imo), and they succeeded. So, if you get some of them being Harry Potter fans themselves, this type of passion project is understandable. It's like a bespoke, curated open world (I know that technically EVERY game is bespoke, but you know what I mean), like Elden Ring and Breath of the Wild. They all have repeating items and such, but that sorta stuff flies when the world is built with such love. It only gets really shitty when you have a bland or boring world coupled with uninspired questing. It's really cool that they were able to nail this so specifically. Shit, I'd love for someone to do this for Berserk. I mean, I've basically convinced myself that Elden Ring *IS* Berserk, but something 1:1 for it would be incredible.
@@justinkroboth360 Actually there are two big game dev studios named Avalanche (one should really change their name ) which makes it even more confusing! This Avalanche is the one that made Disney Infinity, so even more impressive they were given this project and nailed it so well, that’s a big change and undertaking. Very happy for them being successful

Basically have forgotten about it since. I just am bored with Mordor and want the prettier type of locations to be showcased really well in a game.

@@RedGaming44 Ah I see I loved Shadow of War more. Get more of backstory for quite a few Lord of the rings characters. More of a free roam world and new mounts, story is miles better in my opinion too as you get more story of Tailon to experience. Bosses are amazing too. Haven’t played dlc’s for shadow of war they serve as a bit backstory of a few characters too. There’s the Gollum gaming coming out soon if you want to know about his story before events of Lord of the rings too
Gonna be honest. Probs a skip for me. I've never particularly cared about Harry Potter or its world, and the lack of itemization is a huge deal breaker for me. Despite not being a Souls gamer, Elden Ring managed to draw me in and scratch a pretty significant itch that very few games do. Being able build a character either through optimization or theming is very important to me. It's why I love things like DnD, Elden Ring, Monster Hunter, etc.. The freedom to find, create, and optimize a build that fits you like a glove is THE most important thing to me behind pure cosmetic customization. Having a REALLY good character creator is usually my biggest hook, even if you don't end up seeing your character's face for a good majority of the game... Elden Ring.

I wonder when gamers started to accept that things that should be unlocked through gameplay, are suddenly cut out of a game and sold back to them piece by piece. "Just cosmetics" is a poor excuse. A big German Magazin gave it a 78 instead of a 88, because it has extreme performance issues... But they also didn't played it with the Day one Patch.
@@merrydoc1051 the only problem i have with a day one patch is that it will not be live when the people who play 72 hours earlier get to play it. Day one patch should be available from the very moment people get to play the game, not just at the retail release date. 10-15 years ago games did not receive patches as much. I am not saying there were no or less bugs in games then their are now, but atleast games where for the most part finished (and would eithet never have any patches , or only one patch). Nowadays games get released broken with performanche iseus's and glitches. An even bigger iseu is that developers nowadays try to optimize for graphically fidelity instead of performanch. Wehter whe will get to 4K 120 fps in the future as a performanche marker or not, there will still be alot of games that perform under the (then) current performanche specifications. So to me it does not matter if the game does not looke as nice as the new god of war or spiderman, as long as the performanche is stable (wether it is 30 fps or 60 ). Stabil framerate is more important then a high framerate for me atleast.

Minor correction. Portkey Games is not a studio, it is a publishing label. Avalanche Software (not Studios!) Is the developer in this instance. It is not their first game, but it is certainly their first game as ambitious as this one. (They were responsible for Disney Infinity and many Disney licensed video games for many years prior.)

It is really interesting how Warners calculated "anti-marketing" campaign tricked all of you into playing literally the wokest game of the last 5 years. It has more strong "in your face" female characters like every game before, vast majority of "good" characters are female, all the bad guys are white men, its full of diversity and has even a transgender character. So all it took was an artifical backlash and everyone accepted EVEN MORE of the things they hated virtually in every game before. This is highly amusing lol.

Based off the official gameplay and trailers, it's definitely gonna be lack of enemy variety & repetitive combat.
Combat isn't the focus of the game. I chose to play on the hardest difficulty and, as expected, found monsters to be spongy and there to be more adds to give you trouble. There's little enemy variety and you should not be expecting Elden Ring level tinkering and entertainment, HOWEVER I did find the overall spellmixing and casting to be fun and well done, so combat was not a complete drag like it can be with many of these kinds of games. TLDR: don't buy this game for the combat. Do buy this game regardless of the combat.

Loved the lore of Harry Potter and the accuracy of it. But other than that it's just a below average game. Choices don't matter. Choosing a house doesn't matter only the last part changes a little. NPCs are dead, combats are repetitive. 6/10

The only annoyance I have is inventory space. You're only limited to 20 items at the start which is nowhere near enough. Wish they had a chest that stored anything you picked up instead of preventing you from picking up the item. The main story is ok but where the game really shines is the details and overall gameplay. Flying on your broom and seeing Hogwarts just makes me smile all the time. This is a dream for HP fans. Lots of things to do in the game also which is great. For me it's a solid 8/10. Would've gotten higher if the main story was a little more interesting.
Many reviews are talking about the character progression and level system. Personally, I would have loved to grow up and have gone to the School. I feel like that could have been an interesting way to "level up" and progress your character. Then once you are in your final year (maybe like 1/4 into the game) then the game opens up and starts to give you really powerful magic.
Finally another game worth its price. Looks like I’ll be milking this one for the next 2-3 years at least.
What about the combat???
Yeah, it's pretty suspicious that he didn't mention one of the central game elements in his review. Also, I heard the puzzles are just straight up annoying. Wish he'd go into a bit more detail.
Combat isn't the focus of the game. I chose to play on the hardest difficulty and, as expected, found monsters to be spongy and there to be more adds to give you trouble. There's little enemy variety and you should not be expecting Elden Ring level tinkering and entertainment, HOWEVER I did find the overall spellmixing and casting to be fun and well done, so combat was not a complete drag like it can be with many of these kinds of games. TLDR: don't buy this game for the combat. Do buy this game regardless of the combat.

Running smoothly for me with everything on HIGH settings using rtx 2070. I had one framerate drop during a cutscene in the 40hrs so far
The good thing is that better loot stats can be easily implemented in a patch
I like your optimism, but unfortunately, it is much harder to change a loot system than implement it well from the beginning. They would have to go and tweak each enemy encounter at the very least.

@@tremor230 yeah, that would be easy but this sort of change does nothing for the game. They would have to make the enemies do more damage and have more defenses in order to compensate and not make the game too easy, so in the end the game will feel the same. For the loot system to feel good they need to change major things like adjusting the drop rates of items based on rarity, adding interesting stats to make items feel impactful (e.g: maybe you find a legendary wand that has a unique stat that makes unforgivable curses more powerful somehow), etc. These sorts of changes are not easy to implement since you would have to readjust major aspects of the game.

I did the NZ trick (I live in the US) and have been playing it all this morning. It is phenomenal. I keep taking videos and screenshots because it’s just that beautiful. The gameplay feels good, the combat is responsive and quick with a good balance of offense/defense, and the story has enraptured me already. I’m so glad it’s turned out well :) for anyone who wants to play today just swap to NZ and cast Revelio.
Hey, curious - are you running it on the 30 FPS graphics mode, or the 60 FPS performance mode?
@@valaurus7473 I have a 120hz screen so I have it on Performance but with an uncapped framerate. Averages about 65-70fps I’d say. VRR makes it smooth. With how quick the action is I would do Performance no matter what.

I set my XBox to NZ so I could play early. Worth it.
