And I was just confused how the real building date could be so unsure that you have a span of 110 years in which it could have been built😂 But a small typo makes far more sense😉
the weird landing is what use to be a horizontal door that separated the attic from the main house. So your upstairs use to be an attic. The door/staircase meant that you had access to the attic for easy storage but that you didn't have to heat the attic. and Congrats on the house!!!
Dani, minor comment, your backsplash is called stacked stone. And you’re right, it’s not easy to clean. Major comment, if you remove your master bedroom closet and replace it with built-in wardrobes, depending on local codes, it may no longer be considered a bedroom. Thusly making your home 2 beds instead of 3. Something to research/think about in terms of real estate value. Edit: I didn’t see any comments about it, but I don’t advise having signage pointing to your “studio”, because of security concerns. You have lots of expensive materials and equipment that you don’t want to walk away.
Also check and make sure the former owner got permits to change the garage into a room if they needed one, if they didn't and you try to change it or renovate it, needing any permits, they may require you to change it back to a garage. Not sure if this is the case where your home it, just something to be careful for.
You can thank the wallcovering installer for prepping that wall correctly so that the paper was easy to peel off! Otherwise you could be standing there for days with a bucket of hot water and a utility knife making a huge mess then having to patch and sand the wall.
The trick is, if it's installed wrong add fabric softener to the water and use a sponge to wipe it down. You wait a few minutes then it'll peel the front layer off (sometimes the glue layer too if you're lucky). Once that's off sponge it with the water and fabric softener again and the glue layer comes right off too. 😁
Was the house remodelled several times? Everything looks so new. The interior doors look like composite wood, the front door looks modern, and the walls don't look plaster. *This is not a critique! Don't worry about painting those cabinets, they aren't original antique wood, and painted kitchen cabinets are a very farmhouse thing to do! What a delightful house! One piece of advice: Take some time and let the house "tell" you what it wants to be. You may find yourself developing an appreciation for architectural history -- and plenty abounds in that house, despite the new windows.
Wow Virginia just what my friend said to me 2 years ago. Don't jump into anything. Sit back and watch observe what the house tell you. And it is so true. 2.5 years and only done front porch entrance door lounge and the kitchen paint the rest still not talked to me. So I am waiting. Hope this summer I can do the rest. How smart was it to say that. I will ring my friend and tell her about you she will appreciate it.
Actually, Erika, that piece of advice came from Paige on the "Farmhouse Vernacular" channel. She and her husband, Brandon, and their two cats, Baron and Panther, purchased a 1905 farmhouse in Kentucky, just south of Louisville, and have been restoring it room by room. She actually chose to build a 1905 kitchen, rather than put up the usual factory-built cabinets. Fascinating work they're doing.
Here's the URL: th-cam.com/users/FarmhouseVernacular. Otherwise, just go to the search box at the top of any TH-cam page and type in Farmhouse Vernacular.
HI! I'm a historian working in a period house museum. The awkward landing is probably not original to the house. It was common practice in the 1860s for farm houses to feature a loft style sleeping area accessed by a ladder, so it's likely that when the stairs were added, there was a need to adjust the exiting floor, leading to an awkward landing. My museum has two of these from when stairs were added in the 1880s.
I like the glass door ideas though a glass door on a bathroom has always made me uncomfortable. I'd recommend maybe a pocket door that would offer the privacy you'd want for a bathroom but allows for perfect lighting when you open it.
She did say they would be frosted glass, therefore you wouldn't be able to see anything really besides light. I can't wait to see what it looks like! 😊
It hurts me to see an old home that's had all the character renovated out of it. I hope Danie can bring some 19th century farmhouse charm back into this house!
Truly. When she showed the outside and the date, I was like... Huh? The siding, the interior doors, floors, everything is just so new (but dated lol) and ugly compared to the beauty I'm sure the original was. I also hope Danie will bring some of that character back though!
open concept isn't 19th century charm either. I'd start with figuring out where the front door used to be and replacing it with a wood door, probably with big wood moldings and maybe a porch. Then restore the outside to wood, which might still be under the vinyl. I live in a slightly older home (1850-1860) and am working on an unfitted kitchen currently (far more useful and beautiful to me than psuedo farmhouse). None the less, up to the owner - but it's not a pleasant historical example for a technically older home. Except the cellar, which was lovely. It is clean and cleanable which is nice at least.

CONGRATS!!!!!! I love the textured glass in the entry door. Really like the slopped ceiling/short walls in the upstairs; I grew up in a farmhouse that had these, always feels so cozy. I agree with the textured glass in the upstairs doors, will let in so much light. I actually have a door to my guest/office/library that I want to do that with. The stairway with the ledge area, I'm going to guess that maybe at one time the wall was not there and it had a railing and open area as you come up the stairs. At some point, closed it to provide another room. Super BONUS, you get a studio, garage storage area and shed for additional project work space, NICE... Lots of backyard for future projects, back yard is really nice. Maybe you'll get lucky and even have a friendly ghost that visits on occasion. I would create a full, deep linen/storage closet in that bathroom niche, the front of which would be even with the wall behind the sink. A vertical section of closet could hold tall items like vacuum, etc. other areas could have shelving for your linens, out of season blankets, quilts, clothes, woolens....
Congratulations on your beautiful new home. I look forward to the videos of you making it truly yours. All the beautiful light can only mean...MORE PLANTS...just and you mentioned! Huzzah!

Those hydrangeas around your fire hydrant are gorgeous. The backsplash in the kitchen, looks like limestone, just needs to be sealed until you change it, keeps it clean and from potential stains
My 2 cents...take the sink off the diagonal when you do the counter. And be sure to pretreat and seal butcherblock if you use it around the sink. Great kitchen bones!!
So pleased for you, Danie! I was in a crappy mood when I sat down with my coffee to see if you posted a video, and now I’m feeling much better! Thank you. ❤️ Making a home is always so exciting. Enjoy!
It’s going to be so fun to follow along as you make changes! I’m waiting for closing on my first home so I can certainly imagine what an exciting time this must be for you.
Congratulations!!! This is an awesome house! There is nothing better than your own home. As for the studio room, you probably already know this, but for small degrees of slope (maybe just enough to keep the pen rolling) there is a floor leveler material. It is a liquid that levels naturally and drys solid providing a surface you can put flooring over. This it is my BIG tip! I hope it helps. It beats messing aound with the foundation. Here's my wish for your home to be filled with light , love, and laughter!

Yay for a new house! Congratulations! It is beautiful and I am so excited to see how you redo everything! Those funky things, like crazy doors, are the most fun to change because they have the biggest reward!
"Welcome to the basement, come hither!" lmfao that was too funny, also I loved the way you used all the pictures to really get a good visual of what you want it your rooms look like.
Congratulations! We installed a glass paneled door (using rain glass) in our bathroom. It made a huge difference in the amount of light that comes into the room. I look forward to seeing all the changes that you have planned!
Omg, I'm so happy for you! It already looks great! 😁 And I'm happy for me, because now I know what to watch in YT in the near future! 😂 So looking farward to see all the videos! 😍
What a great house. I agree with you about the covered porch. I added a covered deck to my rambler in 2013 it is the greatest space ever especially during a storm.
Love the house! And your ideas for the kitchen. Exactly what I would want to do!
Just a thought on the bedroom. Taking out the closet may legally declassify it as a bedroom (that’s how it is in the US at least.) Something to think about for long term resale value.
I'll certainly look into that! If we had to add a closet when we are ready to sell, we certainly could do that for sure :)
@@DIYDanie I live in the Toronto area and my (suburban) house has a bedroom without a closet. It was built in the early 2000s...look into it...but I dont think that's the case here?
I See Lots and Lots of great content coming ... Congrats!
Congratulations! So happy for you. May you have many wonderful, enjoyable, healthy years in your abode!
I couldn’t click fast enough. Am I ready, I’ve been waiting on pins and needles.
Been using Native for about 2 years and love it! Going to try the citrus soon. Also love, love, love the hydrant!!
💙💙💙
love all the lights that were in originally, the living room one is the most questionable lmao
I hope you donate these to the thrift store because I bet lots of people dig the vintage vibe
I bet Alexandra Gater is into the birds nest you hung in the dining room
are you going to keep these chairs with that table?
Oh Dani... I haven’t even passed the first minute of the video but I’m bursting in happiness for you. Soooo well deserved! 😊
Danie congratulation. What a not so little gem. So cute. Hardly can wait to see what are you doing with it. I do love the light which looks like a flower before watering😄. Maybe you can repurpose it somewhere else even if not your thing but maybe iriginal to the house. Enjoy your new castle. 👍👌🖖🖖🖖
I have seen other youtubers buying houses but if any of them deserves to own a house is You! I am so proud of you and I wish lots of new projects, and good energy for your new place. Hugs from Greece!
I would like to see Alexandra helping in the makeovers
I just said it casually because you and Alexandra are very nice interior designers whomi absolutely love.
I look forward to the room by room make over, update, revamp and make spectacular house to home. Congrats again!!!

LOL you're literally my favourite person ever ♥️ can't wait to share our home journeys together xo
For that weird little ledge above the stairs turn it into a feature! Put in a skylight above the stairs to bring in natural light and then some shelves on the walls and have a bunch of plants there!!
Note: men have hormones, and I believe they cycle. It's just not obvious.
I’m so overwhelmed with how great this comment is, I can’t write anything else.
Lol! They totally cycle and the older they get, the more obvious it becomes lol
my ex PMSed more than I do
My hubby does it with me lol
Congratulations on your first home. Can’t wait to follow along as you make it over!
That light, turned upside down, looks like twenties boudoir to me.
Congratulations, Danie!!! Thanks for letting us come along for the ride.
It's a beautiful home and I can't wait to see you make it yours. I moved to Ecuador ten years ago and almost all homes have tile countertops. I love them. They are easy to clean and difficult to destroy.
Congratulations on your new home! Can’t wait to see how you beautify every single space. My favorite DIYer......Yay!!!
I am sooo looking forward to seeing all your DIY of your fabulous new 'old home! We live in a big Arts & Craft home, now almost 33 years & we hv loved it even with the challenges Period homes present. Congratulations!
Congratulations on purchasing your first home! It is exciting, isn't it? I am so looking forward to the projects and remodels you do to make this home yours. It is so perfect for you!
Beautiful house! Looking forward to seeing all you do with it. I’m sure you will love that she-shed! No more tiny cramped garage space.
Congrats on the new house!!! Soooo exciting to own your own place, do whatever you want to it. Can't wait to see what the changes are, I liked how you put pics of your thoughts. A lot easier to envision, thank you.
Congratulations Danie!!! So happy and excited for you!! Also, that 17:43 sweet lil giggle followed by you meh x meow sound got me smiling bright and softened my mood in an instant ty darling that was very much appreciated!
congratulations on your forever build!
videos for the next 20 years!!! God bless
Congratulations to you and your partner, I'm so excited to see all the DIY projects you created in your new home!
So thrilled for your new home purchase and what a lovely and thoughtful gift from your realtor. Have fun!
Congratulations on your first home! It is fabulous and exciting! Regardless of the age of a house there are always “projects” to make it your “home”. Excited to follow along as you turn this house into your unique home.
Big Big Congratulations!!!!!!! I absolutely love nit, it has so much cozy essentials, you gotta have a blanket rack lol. I’m so excited for y’all and may ALL your dreams come true. Thank y’all so much for taking me on your greatest adventure.
I'M SO HAPPY AND EXCITED FOR YOU!!!!!! Congrats on your new home! I can't wait to see all the reno you're gonna do!
I am so happy for you. So many fun projects. I am excited to see what you do with your work shed. You will have DIY projects for years. May they all go faster than anticipated and cost less then you budget.
I 100%agree on painting the cabinets to lighten up the kitchen, but please do something more interesting than regular subway tile. You're so creative and skilled and could do something still classic and great for resale, but more interesting and fitting to you. Harvest table is STUNNING. CONGRATULATIONS! so happy for you guys
Danie you are so brave to tackle these projects, but you will get it done. Your skills are great. Have fun and enjoy the journey. Love the house and all the extra buildings so far too.
Congratulations! WOW! The excitement of the first home. The plans of remodeling and redecorating.... fun fun fun. You're lucky if you can peel off all the wall paper that way. Keep us posted. I love what you do and you have motivated me to do several DIY projects around my condo. Too bad we can't share pictures.
So happy for you! Looks beautiful. And happy for myself getting excited for your upcoming makeovers!!!
Your home is gorgeous!! I am so happy for you! I can't wait to see it transform! Thank you for sharing your home!
Congratulations!! How exciting. Looking forward to seeing how you make it your own!!
Congratulations Danie! It’s beautiful. I see the charm and character and with your amazing skills, it’s going to be perfect for you and your partner.
It’s so exciting to purchase your first home, especially when you see all the potential in it. I love all the updates you talked about. I personally think painting the kitchen cabinets is a great idea. It will change the kitchen so much, and for not a lot of money. And I agree the lights in the kitchen, can add so much character to the room.
I’m so excited for this new journey and can’t wait to see the beautiful projects you’ll be doing.
Again, congratulations Danie!
So happy for you and the J-man and Kenobi! Can't wait to see all the changes...gonna be fun!
This was so fun!! I love how open and humorous you were a out the house's imperfections. I feel like there are so many "new house tours" where everything is perfect, but that is usually not the case! I'm so excited to watch this journey!!
I would create a full, deep linen/storage closet in that bathroom niche, the front of which would be even with the wall behind the sink. A vertical section of closet could hold tall items like vacuum, etc. other areas could have shelving for your linens, out of season blankets, quilts, clothes, woolens....
Dani!!!!! I am so excited for you! I cannot wait to watch as you work on it!!!!! Congratulations!!!
Congratulations on your beautiful new home. I look forward to the videos of you making it truly yours. All the beautiful light can only mean...MORE PLANTS...just and you mentioned! Huzzah!
Congratulations!! Your new home is gorgeous. Can't wait to see what you do with it! I love all the character (fire hydrant, inactive chimney, etc.), so cool!
Those hydrangeas around your fire hydrant are gorgeous.
The backsplash in the kitchen, looks like limestone, just needs to be sealed until you change it, keeps it clean and from potential stains
Congratulations to your new house. I am excited to see all the DIYs you’ll do to update your house. 😊😊
Congratulations on your new house - I can't wait to see what you do to it. Your energy, your ideas are awesome
@17:02 i saw those cupbaords and thought a laundry chute would be pretty neat
Congratulations on your new home. May you make a lifetime of wonderful memories, there.
Congratulations on your first home, Danny! I wish the best times in your home!
All the best to you in your new home. Can't wait to watch you put your creative DIY stamp on it.
CONGRATS!!!! So happy for you Danie. Amazing to see your progression over the past months and excited to watch what you do in the future. From another Torontonian who is hoping to one day buy my own farmhouse, I look forward to all the inspiring transformations.
Congratulations! I look forward to seeing all the things you will be doing in these rooms! What fun!!
