Thanks for putting this together. You totally summed up the end of my race there too. It's so hard going into an event like this 'blind'. I had the same idea, just 'never give up' but along the way you start setting goals and when you pass those goals it's so hard to kick on again. In the end I quit from the corner, which I'd always said I'd never do. It's definitely hard to nail a race like this first time.... But next year!!!!!!

Fab footage!! Brill to see the yard, I didn't go out and see it as I was marshalling but feel I could walk the course now after seeing this.
Sums up the spirit of the event, thanks for sharing.

A Herculean effort! Can’t help thinking you’re being tough on yourself! Relatively speaking you’re one of a handful of people in the country capable of running that far, and under relentless darkness it’s even more impressive.

Great video. Similar regrets to my own when I did the walk of shame back into camp after setting off on lap 18. Although this is my 4th backyard ultra, I feel like I've learned more from this one and to push through it instead of quitting when it gets tough.

Really great video again, always very good viewing and packed with good tips. Hoping to do that race myself but can't do May as doing a backyard in April but maybe bump into you there in November 😬

Great video. I've got my first BYU in April. Your chat about setting targets and being disappointed is very insightful

Great video this Ross - nice race footage and a genuinely honest self assessment. You looked strong throughout, I was very surprised when you dropped. Make sure you're back next year to go further, you definitely have more miles in you 👍🏼

@@runnerrossco2483 @Runner Rossco Cheers Ross 👍🏼👍🏼 it was a cracking weekend eh. My first attempt at that format too and really enjoyed it. Your post-race analysis is spot on. It's very much about being mentally prepared and don't set yourself limits, just go out and do as much as you can. Brilliant effort mate and hopefully see you back next year for plenty more miles. Love your Race Across Scotland video btw, fantastic 👏🏼

All impressive stuff! (Speaking as an ultra novice) I guess this exemplifies the challenge of relative goals vs personal goals irrespective of the competition. Look forward to joining a backyard one day!! Well done all. Inspiring stuff

Great reflection Ross.. bang on with your observations..you did a great run getting so far in.. loop events are completely different to any other format..I tried to do the GB 24 hour one in whinlatter forest the summer before last.. and hadn’t a clue what to expect.. slowly lap after lap on the hard 6 mile loop.. 3 miles up and 3 miles down.. I melted away like candy floss.. and as the leader ( a top lakeland fell runner) kept lapping me.. the mind blew up at night and I packed in.. came home next day and felt overwhelmed that I’d stopped.. think experience in these formats makes a massive difference..no doubt you’ll smash it next time like you did the RAS.. great effort this time all the same..👏👏✋

Watched 3 of your videos Rob, the 215 ultra, the 100 mile in 24 hours, and this one which is not far from me, I think I’m on a similar path to you started doing 5 and 10ks just from my home, then did the 3 lochs ultra in 2021 and then ran my first trail half marathon from home, like you have done I want to keep pushing harder, I think you are pretty mentally strong, but without a shadow of a doubt it’s mental as much as physical, keep setting the bar higher, all the best 👍

Outstanding effort and jolly all the way through..... don't we all hate the mental blockage when your brain says no more, and was there really a few more walkable miles in you ?
