Great to see you doing a recap now the head's a bit clearer, some great tips especially about how long the nights are, never really thought about that. I'm a long way aways from the full spine, but because of your videos among others I've done my first 50k and signed up for the winter spine sprint next year with a marathon and another couple of ultras in between. Looking forward to your next adventure.
Great advice and summary Ross.. will help other runners thinking of taking these challenges on..still made up for you after these weeks have passed, hope the reality of what you achieved has set in.. a life changing experience.. you did it..!
I'm doing the Winter Challenger South next year so this information is incredibly useful! Were there any particular points up to Hawes that you found particularly difficult or a particular section you would recommend to recce? Did you find you used your watch or your gps tracker more to navigate? Any info greatly appreciated!
Thanks Rossco .Mmmm I have 2 broken GoPros . Firstly soon after buying the first the charging point door came off with little force used, honestly !.So I bought another one (£350) and soon its door went the same way !! But I carried on using them by taping over the doors . Then I used one on a sailing course in September - very substantially taped- and it recorded my 2 capsizes . I transferred the film to my phone but both GoPros eventually suffered from water ingestion by my trying to play the SD card on the 'reserve' GoPro too . I'm too old(67) and have an arthritic left ankle since 2001 so unfortunately I can't enter such races as the Spine or Dragon . I would have loved to have a go at them .The most I do now is a 10K a few times a year ( the very scenic Nick Beer 10K last Sunday) though an awful (for me) time of 1.14 ! That was a great debrief/reappraisal of your race and I did wonder when you were going to talk about sleep ! I have imagined that would/must be one of the biggest factors determining well being, fitness and speed .It sounds as if you really struck lucky by being able to get some shut eye in the Byrness church . Good luck with your future endeavours ! Anthony in Liverpool
Thanks for both of your videos on this race. You seemed to get stronger as the race went on. Inspiring.
Love your videos :) I cant even imagine running that far, never mind a race like that !! great video and tips
