I love to watch the on the water videos and your casting is amazing. The accuracy and quiet presentation is something I aspire to achieve someday. Keep them coming Matt.
I'm from CA. When I came up to WI for a visit, I used the swimjig all day and caught a ton of Bass and Pike. One of the most effective bait that is overlooked.
99% of my fishing is also on a River in Canada. The Ottawa River. Great smallmouth and largemouth. Been throwing spinnerbaits for years as a search bait and have never used a swim jig before. After watching this video I’ll be picking some up. It’s basically a spinnerbait without the blades and much more versatile! The blades on a spinnerbait can cause it to be physically taxing when covering water fast. The swim jig will be a refreshing change! Your videos are excellent and very informative. Thank you!
I quit golf because i am terrible& will never improve. The accuracy of your casting is astounding ! Incredible control, makes me want to quit ! No wonder you catch so many fish & this is why you are a PRO. Matt you are a inspiration ! What a great show.
I carry on the deck of my boat some small ornamental landscape hand shears. If i get hung up in a branch and I can’t “ pop” it off, instead of untangling the bait, i just cut the branch and drift off. Saves the trolling motor prop and spooks less fish.
I’m late to the Swimjig party but I’m trying to add another tool. I’m trying to improve and build confidence in my all around jig fishing and this video has definitely shown me that this technique is very versatile. Thanks for the knowledge!!
My confidence bait, I caught my pb large mouth at four years old on one, will never forget it. It was on a 7 foot 8 spinning rod, in a river, I did everything except take it off the hook once on dock. I was using a shad color swim jig, with a small whit grub paddle tail, as my trailer. Never fished a kids rod a day in my life personally. Always used adult rods.
Damn that was some damn good casting Matt great motion no wasted time In between boat control was spot on that’s why your cashing checks more cast more fish
I fish the most styles with swim jigs myself. Fast steady, slow stead, or slow with sporadic fast sready retrieves. Horizontal yoyo, vertical yoyo, as well as hard jerk yoyo of each of those two. I've been bit on all types thru out the year.
Great instructive video Matt, thanks. For whatever reason, throwing swim jigs has always intimidated me a little, you've broken it down well. Like you, I love catching smallies!
@@MattStefanFishing I agree, on the water videos are great. I love all of your videos though. Watching this particular video made me wanna get out in the backyard and practice my casting. Your accuracy and consistency is amazing. One of the many reasons I’m no pro. lol.
Again, everything he said. Liking the on water stuff, good secondary info. Really like the tunability of swimjigs depending on what size and style of trailer is used. Maybe go into detail on their mods based on fall rate, grass fisheries, open water applications. Thanks for the vid.
Loving the on water videos!! The swim jig even works in open water it looked like watching you fish….thought grass was a key factor. Never really threw swimjigs with no cover. Have to give it a shot!! Dude you can SKIP with a bait caster like crazy good!! Thank you for th3 video Matt!!
Great video! I’m sold on swim jigs now that I see the success you have with them. I haven’t given swim jigs much of a chance but now I’ll start throwing them until my arms fall off.
Thanks for this video Matt!! I now have a better understanding oF exactly how to handle the Swim Bait . Love the on the water videos you make! Most can. be taken to the river and to the lakes as well and work in both!!!! Thanks much!!!!
Been throwing the California Swim Jig on a 7’2 mag heavy and crashing it through grass. Just caught my PB on Thursday doing that. Just 3.5 pounder but a start to the hunt for 5+.
Swim jigs are a standard here in my part of MN, they seem to mimic blugills so well. Around here almost everyone ties there own except me and you can always talk someone into tying whatever color you want.

I dont mind catching pikes except when they broke me , especially a nice 110 vision ! I can see that you have shorts . Here in Quebec it’s getting really cold and right now only walleye are bitting ! I like a swim jig from the bank , almost no snag !
Caught my PB this fall on a swim jig skipped under a tree overhang. A 7 lber, which is pretty dang big for NJ. First cast, big blowup, totally missed the bait. Second cast to same spot, bam, she inhaled it. River2Sea D Walker 100 trailer in green pumpkin. Casting accuracy is a work in progress for me; just started using baitcasters a few years ago. That day my skips were right on target.
Great video. Thank you. Love watching how you work the bank. I really need to work on my accuracy and changing retrieves. Side note: I fish out of a kayak and try to set my rods up the night before. I was double checking my lines and tying on lures and putting them in the truck and found out when I got to the lake 3 out of 5 rods had some variation of a swim jig. LOL Stop... tie on a top water before I get out there. I had never caught any thing on a swim jig until this year.
I know a lot of Bass fisherman are disappointed catching a toothy Pike, but I personally think they are such a cool ancient fish and put up a good fight. When I was a little kid my dad would catch them and we'd eat them NP.

Your accuracy and efficiency while working cover is amazing- you never miss a beat. I fish a swim jig quiet often myself but I'm no where near as good with it as you are- of course. So there was a time when i stopped fishing for a couple years but before that id always throw a jig and practically just that half the time I wouldn’t even use a trailer lol any kind of jig. Now i use a whole bunch of stuff

Your casting accuracy is amazing! I fish around a ton of lay downs and I'm always scared to cast a swim jig into them like you did. I probably would've lost/snagged 5-6 swim jigs during this same timeframe lol
Only time we get lots of toothies is in the fall when they ones we have seem to pull out towards the current more for some reason. We really dont have that many of them up here compared some other places.
I've been using a 7'5" MH-XF for my swim jigs lately. Seems that the extra length makes the tip a bit softer while having the sensitivity of the XF action. Not sure if it's my favorite yet but that's what I end up trying it on consistently. Also, have you tried a River2Sea D Walker 120mm on the back? The action is fantastic and gives you a completely new look.
Any tips on the huge cold front we have had in Wisconsin lately? We have had lows in the 30s and highs in the 50s in South Western Wisconsin lately and the fish have shut off the fall patterns I have been fishing.
This has pushed them into winter mode. They had been staying shallow feeding but moved to straight winter IMO. The amount of light in the day has them in there normal phase even though water temps are still high for this time of year
The weather in Southwest Colorado has done the same thing, even snowed a couple of weeks ago. I figured this is what happend to the fish, but thought they might snap out of it.....nope. Winter is here😥 Thanks for the info.
Thanks, Matt. Working on my swim jig game. Only other bait I could suggest has the same versatility, especially in and around that hind of cover is a Texas rigged worm. I have been wrecking them everywhere on that Berkley Maxscent Kingtail. Only problem is they don't last long as a jig, usually one or two fish, and they're on the expensive side. Have you tried them?
Finally got to watch this one, I like the on the water videos keep them coming. Was going to ask what weight size you use the most, but you already answered my question.
Great video footage, Matt. Your skip casts are flat out amazing. I am not there yet, but working on it. Sorry for your lure losses due to the Pike. I have decided that when I can get my lure closer to the places you get yours I will be catching more fish. I really enjoyed the video! Thanks. How do you feel about the Tokyo Rig. Do you believe in it? If so, would you do a video on it to include the best times and conditions to fish it?

I like a 7’ 3” heavy action for swim jigs. I fish a lot of grass and the heavy action helps me rip it through the grass
