    I have a 73 240 in my garage. So I’m about to take on the same project as you. I’m paying close attention! Thank you

    I like this video format of your voiceover and the timelapse video. I haven't taken a really good look at the frame rust on my car yet.

      That's great! It actually saves me a bit of time since I dont have to worry about talking and explaining things while I work.

    Your videos are pretty cool. I'm working on one myself. I'm loading videos on my channel in Spanish, for all those out there who are also into videos like these but don't know English.
    Like you, I only have a few hours a week to work on it (job, gf, life get in the way) but hopefully I'll be done with it in a few months.
    Anyways, big fan of your content. Keep up the great work.

    Nice job pulling the motor and transmission. I’ve read it’s easier to do them as one but it didn’t seem that bad watching you do it. I look forward to seeing you tackle the rust problems because my car is similar but the frames rails are okay ...at least I think. Will find out more once I tear it down. You should get something to put down on the floor. A large rollout rubber mat. If you ever epoxy the garage the oil is pain to clean and requires a clean for to adhere properly. I did my garage last year. Even a cardboard refrigerator box in the short term.

      Haha yup I hear you on the flooring, I think I'd care more if I was going to do the floor coating myself, but I think I'll bring in the professionals to do it after the 280Z can move on its own again. The garage flooring has this really nasty and fragile coating on it that comes up all the time, and I can't imagine trying to remove all of that myself. I'll try to put some cardboard on it moving forward though.

    Heh, I have an 87 300zx and my passenger frame rail is similar, not rusted out but crushed flat from idiots jacking from it. Anywho I plan to bend up a new one in the brake and tack it on after removing the old. I was going to re route all those lines up a bit farther in the trans tunnel to keep them safe since my Z is lowered a good bit. If you're doing a different engine (VG30 is a good option if you want to stay nissan) you might want to upsize your delivery and return lines for the fuel.

    Hey man, absolutely love the videos! Insanely helpful. Just picked up my first Z, a 1973 240. I've got a garage spot over the winter and plan to start working on it. Wondering if you could link the casters used on your diy plywood lifts. Thinking of making a set. Thanks again! Keep up the awesome work.

    • @RestorationForBeginners
      @RestorationForBeginners  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's really simple, just stack 2x4's like a log cabin, screw them together and put some strong caster wheels at the bottom.

    fyi you can just remove the circlip that attaches the shifter, pull the pin and leave it in place. there is room to get at all this from below.

      Thanks Dave! What are your thoughts on the body/frame condition?

    • @davewm9589
      @davewm9589 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      yea that pass side is a mess, bad dog IIRC is a maker of frame parts, Or if you have a good metal fab shop, perhaps that route. I would buy a set and take them to a good welder. Glad to see you going after it like this, I am sure you will be glad you did when its done. I think its pretty common to find them messed up like that, years of poor jack/lift placement. I had the same issues under the brake master, mostly surface rust from the DOT leaking and removing the paint. I probed it pretty hard, it seemed ok so just POR'ed it. I was lucky the battery area was fine. I don't think that will be too hard to patch, there are battery patches pre made, the rest looks to be getting the sheet metal guy to fab it up for you. Are you up for learning Welding?

    • @RestorationForBeginners
      @RestorationForBeginners  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@davewm9589 I certainly am, but I think I may be out of my depth here. I was talking to my neighbor who is also a car junkie, and he suggested that I reach out to a friend of his who runs a frame/restoration shop. In principle, I do want to do most of the work myself to learn and keep costs down, but I don't think have the right equipment to tackle stuff like this. So I think what I'm considering is just taking the car down to the bare frame, putting in as much elbow grease as possible to remove all the paint and do some body work, and taking it to a restoration shop to do the welding and the painting. Plus, although I have my own garage, I do live in a townhouse so I'm trying to keep the ruckus down. I really don't want my neighbors hating me!
