I like these. Can the door be put on the right side? And how does it attach to the house?

Hello Fahimna, you should find information about the foundation in the Rion Sun Room pages on our website, for example: palramapplications.com/product/rion-sun-room-8x8
      See "Assembly" tab.

How can this be attached to a wall with siding, which has a zigzag surface?

Could this potentially be used as an aviary? Is it strong enough to keep raccoons and foxes out?

What about in areas where hail is common? Do these solariums hold up?

Hi Melanie, Rion Sun Rooms have a polycarbonate roof that withstands high impact. They are guaranteed to hold 75 kg/m² or 15.4lbs/ft² of snow with a 50% margin of safety. You can find out more here: palramapplications.com/product/rion-sun-room-8x8

The downside of the really cool green house is that it is made of White Plastic. That will give it a lifespan of about 7-years because the white plastic offers no protection to UV Rays A or B. Where I live in Florida the lifespan would be less. This kit should be made out of extruded aluminum, especially for the prices they are asking for the final product.
The aluminum won't rust and isn't affected by the fertilizers or constant humid conditions of a greenhouse, further UV Rays.
I worked in an industry for over 20 years that used extruded white plastic, in 3 to 5 years it becomes brittle, in as little as 7 total failure of the plastic structure occurs due do normal UV Rays A & B. The whiter the plastic, the less UV inhibitors it has in them
This is demonstrated in the cheap white patio furniture it does not last long and is about the same quality of plastic used. UV's don't care how much the plastic costs, it destroys it in time, inhibitors will slow the decay.
I love the fact that it is made in Germany, that is a plus, I am part German and Germany is known for high quality craftsmanship. This is a problem with materials.

Hi John, we don't know exactly which type of plastic you are referring to, there are many types of polymers and they vary considerably in their characteristics and weather resistance. The frame profiles of the white Rion Sun Room are made of white PVC, which actually has very good resistance to UV radiation. The resin material contains a protective agent for UV radiation and the white color also contributes - by nature it absorbs less heat and radiation. The glazing panels also resist UV - the twin-wall Polycarbonate roof is also protected and the Acrylic windows are inherently immune to UV. So the Rion Sun Room should hold up fine in the Florida sun, plus it is warranted for 7 years. You can find out more here: palramapplications.com/product/rion-sun-room-8x8

The white plastic that makes up the frame. I've seen what happens to PVC after 5 and 7 years in the sun, the whiter it is the more brittle it becomes and breaks down quicker. I misspoke when I said plastic, I meant to say Poly-vinyl-chloride (PVC)
The green frame has longer life because it won't be broken down as quickly as the white.
I'm trying to give you the benefit of what I have personally experienced in the field of working with PVC's exposed to the direct sun daily and not in Florida, but Ohio, Michigan and Indiana. The Florida sunhine is more destructive to vinyls and plastics.

A more intense sun exposure can indeed have a more damaging effect on many materials including PVC, but certain additives can be used to enhance weatherability.
Thank you very much for the tips John and for taking the time to share your knowledge and experience, it is much appreciated.

@@Canopia This is nice...How would this hold up in Michigan against snow for multiple months?
