For everyone who requested a more New Player / New Account, mining guide to help you earn your first Prospector please check out this video: th-cam.com/video/7wMmln0dBoU/w-d-xo.html I hope some of you find it useful!
I picked up an SRV after listening to in game chat. One hammerhead run was $250,000 for about 15 minutes. You don’t have to scrape it, just tow it a little ways away from where it was to complete mission. You can avoid the trespassing tow fine by sitting in the hammerhead pilot seat for a second, which is super easy to get to on the hammerhead. This seems to be the fastest money maker right now. I believe it will be nerfed too. They nerfed the prospector to get people to move to a Vulture. Luckily we can melt the last shiny thing to buy the next shiny thing that makes the most money.
In 3.22 the best money making method will still probably be drug running ert’s, but outside of combat it’s hands down reclaimer munching. Munching takes a few minutes and I made 4 million off 3 salvages last night. Now it does take like 20 minutes to move everything around, I didn’t time it but I was making well over a million auec per hour and no risk of crime stat. I can confirm that cargo doesn’t have to be snapped to sell in the reclaimer and from what I’ve read you can fill the reclaimer with 2000 scu of cargo if you’re efficient with your space. I only went up to 600 scu. I also sold at grimhex cause I wanted to go to bed, gh will give you less than half of what you can make at a scrapyard. Edit: I’m talking about solo gameplay
@@g-mon2369 Only issue with the reclaimer is that its cargo hold has issues detecting cargo if its not snapped, so while it can detect it, i had two crates of quantanium i found in a salvage contract that werent being detected, and i had to spawn the ship, move them around, and then go back to the TDD in arccorp to sell it.
Another tip from my recent mining. With the higher powered lasers if you get a situation where the meter is filling too fast to control at minimal power, distance from the rock changes output so just back up to the maximum effective range or until the meter stops filling with minimal power. Then you can use the power dial to control the break.

Great video! I have been mining around HUR-L1A and the pickings are slim. Scanning asteroids is frustrating. I learned that I had to be in Mining mode and get very close to an asteroid (between 15 and 50 meters) before the mining head scanner would give me a mass and constituency. I stopped doing terrestrial mining more than a year ago because of pirates, but I forgot about how we can find large rock clusters on moon surfaces. I guess I will once again give it a go. Thank you!
Thank you for taking the time to message, honestly Prospectors aren't the most desirable targets for Pirates any more. There are much bigger bounties, Moon mining is nice and I definitely appreciated the comparative ease of scanning and amount of clusters on planets to the Belt. But I guess everyone is different! I hope you enjoy moon mining again! :)
Salvaging might earn more, but I already have a Prospector. Spent the real money because I really enjoy the mining loop. Stepped away during 3.19 for other things and just now coming back. Should have done more research before I dropped the aUEC on the stuff I needed for mining quant, but it's not like I won't make that back in very short order.
Yeah, I totally agree, mining is a far more engaging gameplay loop and I imagine it will become even more important when crafting and Base building comes online.
Not anymore, not from a salvage mission anyway. Have to have a buddy give you his Mole bags and reclaim his ship. The Mole salvage missions were removed.
@@mrsparkle001 I heard they removed MOLEs from the salvageable ships list, but haven't tried putting MOLE bags on a Prossy in a while, I'll have to check if it still works in 3.22!
The laser buffs are only applied to the rock while the laser is being directly applied to the rock. This means that when you are approaching an overload condition if you back the laser down to 0% but keep the laser on, the laser and all module buffs will still be applied to the rock while it is cooling down. But if you turn off the laser those buffs will no longer be in effect.
True, with one caveat, no laser has 0% power any more, so this isn't as abusable as it was previously. Also lasers from multiple prospectors overload unstable deposits.
you can also change the salvage heads on the vulture. by default you have 2 of the 90% efficiency with a 1.5m radius and 1 70% efficiency head with 3.5m radius. since i just look for salvage in asteroid fields, the efficiency isn't that important because you fill the vulture in a few minutes, so it was suggested to switch the 90% heads for 70% heads as well. with the 65% heads with 6m radius it'd be even faster i guess :D i really hope the vulture will get more different salvage heads as well as sub components, just like the miners. i bought the vulture ingame but i also have a prospector, i'll have to look into the mining heads again. in 3.17 the lancet was great and i used it with some FLTR-XL mods, i'll have to compare the lancet with the hofstede and check what other modules there are. in your case it looked like you'd profit from a larger optimal window
Yeah I hope that Salvage becomes more involved in the future and I definitely prefer 2x abrades over 2x Cinch, does speed up collection speed! You can't do the Jolly-Green-Giant build that you used to be able to in 3.19 when mining, they nerfed that a bit, which is probably for the best. I've tried a BUNCH of different loadouts but I recommended this one as it's a good combination of beginner friendly and affordable! :)

I and miming friend both saw an uptick in the anount of quantanium we found, but I feel like we need more runs for make sure it wasn't an anomaly / luck.
I have a question that you might be able to answer. Due to a collision I had with an asteroid I lost two of my bags in the collision. I went back and repaired the ship. The bags are still missing. How do I get New bags for my prospector?
You might have to reclaim your ship. You would have to do it from a different port than where you stored it. Or you can just self destruct it and claim.
Yeah just as @furiousfelicia5751 suggests I'd try to claim a fresh one. You could also use this as an opportunity to test if MOLE bags still work on the Prospecter to increase your capacity! ;)
New miner here. Have they increased the time to store your ship after collecting Quantanium? I tried it once before and my ship exploded on the way to the station. Do I need an upgraded quantum drive to make it on time?
In 3.19 they increased the quantanium timer duration by a lot. If that's what you mean? Time to store your ship shouldn't make a difference based on your cargo...
Don't worry man, every newly added game loop is OP in first iteration, I would expect quite a significant nerf in salvage in the future. I really wonder how they'll balance ship/station refining.. Oh and I think Lyria is like almost 100% pure O2 atmosphere.
Yes, perhaps they'll dial down the earnings from Salvage soon to bring the Industrial loops better aligned. I'm very excited for ship refining as I think it's the missing link in the mining chain right now (aside from manufacturing / base bulilding). What do you think of the Arrastra? Are you looking forward to the Q&A?
They will 1000% turn it down but I still think at 15m ship, or 400 bucks, should have strong returns in profit. It just needs to be more fleshed out which it will be.
They already dropped the price for construction materials in the EPTU to 6k, they'll probably drop it even further down to something like 3k per scu, RMC will likely stay at the price its currently at in the PU, or the wildly high price of 14k per scu in the EPTU
I think the balancing they're doing now is more aligned with what it should be, but honestly making it take longer to pop doesn't achieve much, just makes the already watch the progress bar gameplay take longer... :-/ I hope it becomes at least a little more skill based in the future.
Construction materials needs to be worthless unless refined for one. Same with rmc. That would unify the loops a bit. Reclaimer should print money but it needs to have a longer loop. In three days id salvaged enough to buy an 890 and a caterpillar lol in pu
Yeah hadanite is still good money, scanning can be a bit borked though. Generally I stand up out he pilot seat then sit down again to get scanning working (that worked for me for scanning vehicles anyway) I hope that helps! Check out my latest video, I got hadenite with hand and ROC mining.
What exactly changed? I see some good prospector runs and really lucky finds (with some yt quick cuts between) but I can't tell whats been updated or improved at all, the insaine instability looks worse than ever, can only imagine how that'll effect the avg 3 server fps
If you want to see a comprehensive description of what changed (from my perspective) in mining please read my summary feedback to CIG on the changes linked in the description. That also contains exactly what changed from the CIG developers along with other members of the community's feedback on the changes. Overall there is an increase in quantity of rocks that Prospector can crack planet/moonside (predominantly in the 5-15k mass range) There also appear to be an increase in Tier 1 materials and quant. (A friend had 2/4 of his runs contain quant) So these were A-typical runs NOT lucky runs, however they may rebalance it between my runs & release to LIVE servers. The quick cuts are to keep the content engaging, nobody would watch a ~1.5 hour episode including travelling on the train, sitting in quantum to ARC and screwing up lines :-P Thank you for your comment, also I had 22 server FPS on EPTU last night.
the changes that happen in 3.22 has kinda pushed moles and above in to belt mining now while the planets are mainly for the prospectors as the rocks are alot more size smalled in mass now and more of them while it looks like medium and above rocks are more common on belts now this change is prob to do with the Arrastra and Orion future mining
Yeah, personally I think the MOLE handles a bit better in Zero-G and I'm sure it must be lighter on your limited Hydrogen. But I know some MOLE miners that aren't a fan of Belt / Lagrange mining. As long as the increase the Mass than a MOLE can hoover up on a planet it won't suffer too much otherwise it will struggle to crack some of the smaller rocks, unless it has an intentionally WEAK arm. I'm still looking forward to the Arrastra and I hope between now & then they can come up with a decent compromise.
I'm not entirely sure I agree, but I want to understand what basis you are speaking to here, for the Mole not doing as well? On Cellin doing some testing in 3.22, I did find a 61k mass, several rocks in the 50'ks, etc... that had 40%+ of Tier 1 resources. Is there something I am overlooking? :)
I've only done one mining run so far in the MOLE (planetside) so don't have enough data yet, but being able to hoover up 2000 mass rocks without a need to break means so far the MOLE seems to be doing fine on a planet.
I agree with you that mining should make more than Salvage but you have to look at it in terms of gameplay mechanics and popularity right now Salvage is where it's at you know they got more ships that can do Salvage so they have more invested in getting a salvage up and running so of course you're going to make it so that more people do Salvage more than mining but when the next gameplay mechanic comes through which is what cargo I guess is what they're doing now then then cargo will be the top seller and all of that good stuff, so....
For me personally I've done quite a lot of salvage recently and although I'll probably do a #,###,### aUEC per hour video when 3.22 drops to LIVE, but in my free time I'd much rather be doing mining again! :)
@@kaventiaplays no, i agree....mining is great! and BH is great too. but I think those will be left by the wayside when CIG realize the greater attention to salvage. (I cant wait to see the vid when you do ....its my new cozy vids to watch/listen to!) KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!! YOU F'KN ROCK!!!!

I tried to make this beginner friendly by talking though the mining process for less experienced players! You can RENT a Prospector from any refinery for 20,610 aUEC per day (but you can't customise it). A prospector costs a little over 2 Million aUEC if you buy it in Game, it was the second ship I bought with aUEC when I started playing the game! P.S. If you try out PTU you'll start with 15 Million aUEC.

Although I did have the power to 0 issue and unscannable asteroids in the MOLE, but haven't done a 3.22 video for the MOLE yet.
Do the 12SCU bags from Mole still work on Prospector?
I believe so, but didn't test it in 3.22 yet.
What would you recommend doing to save enough money for a prospector? I only have a gladius and like 200k to my name.
You can rent a prospector at any refinery for a day (or 3) and see if you enjoy the gameplay!
@@kaventiaplays I do remember enjoying mining but someone had bought me a Prospector. This was a year or so ago though, I am just getting back into SC. I will give renting a prospector a try.
I want to try salvaging but I know nothing about it
@@Tpachal I have couple of beginner friendly videos on Salvage you may want to check out and the Vulture is MUCH more affordable in game than the prospector if you want to give it a try... It's a bit more profitable at the moment but I prefer the slightly more engaging gameplay of mining more.
@@kaventiaplays oh okay, thank you so much. I will have a look at that. Maybe salvaging will be my gateway into owning a prospector again.
@@kaventiaplays I had it in my head that I could rent a vulture. I'm instead going to rent a prospector and watch this video through again haha.
did they make quantanium (sorry if typo) easier to find or was that just a really good run
I and miming friend both saw an uptick in the anount of quantanium we found, but I feel like we need more runs for make sure it wasn't an anomaly / luck.
I think the prospector and the hull-a might be the only misc ships that dont have the patented mail-slot view of MISC
And the MISC Reliant, not a big fan of that ship but it has a great view! But yeah I love the view from the Prospector! :)
Nope. There are several others.
Aril is the BEST!
It's still quite cool, I LOVE the shoulders!
Pretty chill gameplay. Not a lot of money though compared to some other methods currently in the game.
Yeah but depends what you enjoy highest aUEC per hour isn't everything in this game, eventually you run out of ships you like to buy! :D
does hadanite mining still make sense.... i cant seem to scan fuckall with my max
Yeah hadanite is still good money, scanning can be a bit borked though. Generally I stand up out he pilot seat then sit down again to get scanning working (that worked for me for scanning vehicles anyway) I hope that helps! Check out my latest video, I got hadenite with hand and ROC mining.
thanks ill try it out!@@kaventiaplays
Are you sure storing your ship prevent it from blowing up? I made that mistake in 3.20 and sadly lost full bags of quant.
I've never had a stored ship pop before! :-O
(A friend had 2/4 of his runs contain quant)
So these were A-typical runs NOT lucky runs, however they may rebalance it between my runs & release to LIVE servers.
The quick cuts are to keep the content engaging, nobody would watch a ~1.5 hour episode including travelling on the train, sitting in quantum to ARC and screwing up lines :-P
Thank you for your comment, also I had 22 server FPS on EPTU last night.
Isn't the hofstede bugged?
Not as far as I know... Is there an issue council bug about it?
why we dont have larger mining bags for our ships ins beyond me. they should be sold at the mining kiosk
You can just pull them off a MOLE and use them on your Prospector.
the changes that happen in 3.22 has kinda pushed moles and above in to belt mining now while the planets are mainly for the prospectors as the rocks are alot more size smalled in mass now and more of them while it looks like medium and above rocks are more common on belts now this change is prob to do with the Arrastra and Orion future mining
Wheres the Big Orange one?
I think the MOLE might be in a slightly worse place now, especially for planet-side mining...
I miss quant mining...
Me too... One day, perhaps when we get mining missions there might be a Quant-rush again!
(I cant wait to see the vid when you do ....its my new cozy vids to watch/listen to!)

@@kaventiaplays will do!

Beginner level.
Also the Prospector: 15 mil
I tried to make this beginner friendly by talking though the mining process for less experienced players!
You can RENT a Prospector from any refinery for 20,610 aUEC per day (but you can't customise it).
A prospector costs a little over 2 Million aUEC if you buy it in Game, it was the second ship I bought with aUEC when I started playing the game!
P.S. If you try out PTU you'll start with 15 Million aUEC.
@@kaventiaplayspretty sure it's 50 000 at Cru L1
@@kaventiaplays I know I was joking x) You're doing great job, that's why I support you, nw.
I think it's that much for 3 days (default)
@@kaventiaplaysI think it's 51k per day, 150 plus for 3 days
Space Engineers > Star Citizen
Space Engineer*s? Or is there just 1? :-P
you need helix with rieger and focus3, gadgets Sabir,Waveshift and optimax, i break alone 25k rock mass
Yeah that's a much more hardcore setup, I generally prefer Helix builts myself, but this was aimed at people just starting out.
Check out this IC, as it will be a problem when (if) you want to do more advanced builds :P STARC-94719
Oh dear, I haven't encountered that issue yet myself, but forgot to bring any gadgets out with me when I was mining, otherwise I would have cracked those 13K rocks! :P Thanks for the share, I'll upvote it and will see it I can contribute to it soon!
@@kaventiaplays no probs! I hope this gets fixed before 3.22 gets to live, gadgets so far are fine, but modules not so much :(
