Jon sitting next to Damian like he did when Damian found out his dad was gone. Damian becoming a true hero by not just taking life, but by being willing to sacrifice his own. And ending it on Alfred as the Spectre reminiscing about his family. Tom Taylor out here making me cry in the club and making me miss the Super Sons days.
Lol erubos saying hes willing to bargain was a sign to me that he realized how fcked he really was. A primordial being tryna bargain with a mortal just screams distress to me 😂😂
Man Damien had the perfect setup for a one liner. Erebos: "I am willing to bargain. What do you want from me?" "I want you to brighten up a little." *Throws on shades
This was the first time I ever cried over the demise of Damien Wayne. The entire series showed how he has truly changed from his original origins and became an actual hero.
Tom Taylor is such a creative genius. He comes up with such novel and interesting concepts as “what if Batman has the powers of a god”, or “what if Superman was evil”. Truly a visionary in our times.
Damn that brought a tear to my eye. Seeing Damian in this universe compared to the other incarnations had set the bar for his character to new heights.
This story was so good that I wanted it to be canon... All of the parts in this series felt real and understandable. The characters died in a way that made sense and the final scene was probably the most beautiful endings I have ever seen in any comic.
@@maramba32 injustice was mid cause they cut too much story for the movie. I can see something similar happening with dceased. It would have to be a 2 parter like TDKR movies
I’ve never been so satisfied from beginning to end I was never exhausted from this story it just drove my anxiety more. I’m sad it’s done but let’s hope they just leave it where it is cause I think this is the perfect ending
It spawned a new universe so it's almost certain they'll return to it eventually (heck it's already been referenced in main earth Jon Kent's current multiverse storyline), but with this type of ending no matter what they do they can never taint the journey.
Damn outstanding run; Tom Taylor just kills it w/ Elseworld stories where he’s not restricted by the the normal comic book meta. I wanna say that he has a few more Dceased side stories to tell & wrap up loose ends (like if Talia really did revive Stephanie w/ a Laz Pit or she just dead like most of the Bat family) but that’s just wishful thinking
I find Damian's plan ironic because he used a similar strategy to 'Die' and invade Hell/Purgatory, so that his Titan's could enter Heaven. This was an amazing run, one that actually allowed Damian's character to progress and keep that progress until the end. At this point in main DC, Cassie is too old for Damian - He just turned 14. Also, he has this Emo Homicidal Metahuman Girlfriend called Flatline that 'Stole his Heart'.
“You took my Father. You took my Brother. You hurt my friends. You took so much from our world, from our universe. There will be no Bargain. There will just be your END.” DCeased has been a rollercoaster, so much death, pain, and struggle; Damian, the killer, having lost it all with nothing left to lose sacrificed the last thing he had left for all of reality…. Bruce, Dick, and Tim would be so proud of this selfless sacrifice, he truly became Batman. I’m glad he didn’t go out alone🖤 and poor Alfred gets to watch on alone, I’m glad at least one of the bat family remains in some way.
I think that's a wonderful idea having Cassie and Damian form a relationship and continue onward. That'd be something new and interesting I'd like to see.
The fact that they had use of a Yellow Ring empowered Darkseid and barely used him just shows the writing skill in these books. No need to rely on lazy power scaling to make stories work. He used the soul of the characters to find a solution that actually made sense for them to make in a universe like this. Amazing story, its been a blast following along with you.
If I had a dime for every Comics Explained video that had "God Killer", "Becomes God", or "Destroys God" in it, I'd have $2.60... Which isn't a whole lot but it's weird that it's happened that many times.
I agree. DCeased was amazing. They had fun with it. So many amazing scenes, upgraded characters. Brainiac Cyborg, Specter Alfred, Yellow Lantern Darkseid, Plastic Man just being Plastic Man. 10+ years easy man.
Everything about this issue is AMAZING. The dialog, the ending and the drawings. The emotions....Tom Taylor is a genius. This is a 11/10 comic. Absolutely fantastic. Ngl, I shed some tears , Alfred has been through a lot in this series
LOL i’ll never admit how much this ending affected me. What a beautiful DC story! I hope the writers take note of this greatness going forward. Thank you CE, as always incredible storytelling and editing.
What I love about Damien's death is that Jon was right there beside him, telling Damien that he wouldn't be alone, just like he did right after the Bat Family died. Man this was such an awesome story. Definitely one of the best.
Man listening to you recite these comics with such explosive delivery and excitement really adds value to it 💥.. and when Alfred said "my bats my son's my whole universe* 🖤made me almost cry
Man. Comics can have the most beautiful storytelling. The range of emotions they make you feel, the paradigms and philosophies they make you question... Literature at it's finest here. Thanks for the narration, Rob. ❤️🔥
The entire DCeased story was amazing. It’s like the dark and hopelessness of Train to Busan, with the great hope from the ending of Matrix Revolution on a universal scale (those might not be the best comparisons, but that’s what I get from this story). Best DC comic I’ve seen in a while.
Man all the ways that Jon, Damian, and everyone in this run really, the way their character developed just set the bar. Man I wish that the canon run was like this.
As always a great, enthusiastic, presentation of a Elseworld story yet. In the end it evolved from being something akin to the Marvel Zombies original story into the Chaos War but without the cheeky Amadeus Cho "everyone gets saved" ending. It was a good story with some shock moments (although, for me, it didn't have a single iconic panel like Marvel Zombies Undead Sentry holding up a dead Ms Marvel by the throat while the rest of the Avengers lie scattered around him about to be turned. The horror of that one panel still gets me). But over all a much better story told, as always, so well by you. By the way Ares was not a respected god in the Ancient Greek World. Even the Spartans had a statue of him chained in Sparta to show that they controlled him (not the other way around). He embodies the physical valor necessary for success in war but can also personify sheer brutality and bloodlust, in contrast to his sister, the armored Athena, whose martial functions include military strategy and generalship. An association with Ares endows places, objects, and other deities with a savage, dangerous, or militarized quality. Athena easily defeats Ares and his lover Aphrodite in the Trojan War as written by Homer. Obviously Homer didn't fear Ares wrath. DC has created this character that has no basis in mythology but at least, in this instance, it pointed out that Ares knows fear and is a coward that needs to be shamed into doing the right thing.
The fact that you explain tons of things for us who just tuned in to this story (don't have much time anymore for a lot of your vids and miss a bunch of them), is why I've been following this channel for more than two years. I love you man, thank you so much for everything, I'm hyped as all hell
You do realize your reactions and telling of the story are like 80% of what make these stories so great, right? I mean yeah they're awesome... but you make them fun. Thanks homie
That Alfred moment felt like that Invincible quote “What will you have after 500 years?”. Since in Alfred's eyes his sons would have out lived him but the ending is both tragic and rather heartwarming considering those who spawn from the new universe would be in essence a sort of family to him.
I read this last night and started to well up tears. Being a die hard robin fan seeing this moment was gut wrenching but at the same time oddly satisfying.
Easily one of the best DC storylines of the last decade, perhaps even of all time. Beautifully executed and masterfully written and portrayed characters by Tom Taylor. Definetely not out of characther but an intetresting and refreshing take on all of them. A kind of comic you would see on a "Top 10 comics you have to read before you die" kind of list.
The fact that they revisited the panel where Damian and Jon sat on the floor together so each other wouldn’t be alone almost broke me. This was an amazing journey and Tom Taylor is one helluva writer.
I like that Damian Wayne Batman is wearing the White Batman suit. Also, Guy Gardner knowing what he said to Darkseid after Darkseid (with the powers of the Yellow Lantern because instilling fear) blast him with his omega beams. Also, Oliver Queen Green Arrow being right that Batman is going to sacrifice himself in space. Also, the Supersons having a final moment together and Spectre Alfred wandering in space to check up on Damian. Also, the appearance of Supergirl, even though she appeared in a cameo in the first DCeased comic. I hope that other DCeased spin-off titles will resolve a lot of loose ends after this.
Just finished the video and my god the ending is incredible. Damien Wayne's evolution has been nothing but extraordinarily and his ending is justified. I feel for Alfred though, he's literally lost everything but the monologue at the end and the final shot with the Batman logo imitating a milky way was just beautiful.
The intresting thing that out of all the bat-family the only one that survived is Cassandra Cain/Batgirl II. Outside of that Tom Taylor really made this his swan song story, I do hope we get some tie-in's for any of the survivors in the aftermath of this. The best line from Damian Wayne should have been, Damian Wayne/Batman: "I am vengence. I am the Night. I. AM. BATMAN! And your dust." And flips off Erobos. This almost feels like something from Mortal Kombat 11 the Sonya Blade ending
DUDE..... the callback from when Bruce died, and Damian was sitting there and told Jonathan that he didn't want to talk, and J sitting down saying, "Ok, well I'll just sit here so you're not alone..." I just love it!
fantastic ending, fantastic series. This is what we read comics for- great storytelling about great characters. Congrats to all involved for making this and thanks Rob for delivering it. Bravo!
And here I thought this was going to be a very poor end to this amazing series, I thought that we would either get a finish were, "the virus is gone, but erebos is still out there" or we would have some sort of dumb sinerio where the heros somehow kill such a being, but tom made it work by making it so emotional. The quote from green arrow, afred losing his last son, even the begining where everyone is reunited with the lost. Plus, they dont downplay erebos here, and acually use his power to his disadvantage. A far better end then I was expecting!
7:22 I have a theory that the romance between Damian and Cassie in these comics is a nod to Dick and Donna Troy's brotherly relationship in the main universe. Although they have always denied any romantic feelings for each other, no DC character has believed their "just friends" statements
This twice DC made me tear up within a year. Th other time was when Alfred came back in Batman vs Robin. Then died again. I seem to be getting more emotional after becoming a Dad nerd.
Such an amazing story havent been more prouder of being a fan of the bat family and Damian Wayne but theirs one cliff hanger that no one is talking about. Remember at "Hope at worlds end" When the infected black Adam and his army where transported too another dimension. Were they even cured? are they still there? Just questions that need answering cause that means Erebos has a trojan horse within those guys.
I was honestly scared about how this was going to end, but damn Alfred had me tearing up, Damian's sacrifice is brilliant and Batman's prep time ended up clutching up at the end. The only thing I wised we could of seen more of is the main man Lobo. Other than that, the series of comics are fantastic and very suspenseful👌
The amount of Lobo that we currently got is probably fine. Lobo in himself could probably single handedly end the story if he really wanted to since hes (implied to be) fully immune to the anti-life virus as hes banished from the realm of death. He can't kill Erebus, but he could single handedly stop the infection on local levels. If lobo came to earth during the Initial infection for example, the story would have just ended there because Lobo is immune to the virus.
Wow…great ending! I wish for only one twist…that there was scene where we find out that Cassie was pregnant with Damien’s baby…it is a boy…and the legacy of the Bat lives on. Because the world always needs a Batman.
I literally bought every individual of DCeased and got hard covers for unkillables, dead planet and the black Adam DCeased. Loved the entire run! I also bought all of the dark crisis run too.
Man that last scene gets you hard. Amazing story. Way better than most DC stuff glad to listen you tell it. But man that last monologue and scene hits hard.
Lobo picking his nose while trolling ares is hilarious. Whoever did the art for this dceased series needs to be put on all the zombie books because his rendering of the anti-life zombies is top notch creepy.
As much as I hate to admit it, I really don't hate to admit it because it's not even a contest. This story blows Marvel Zombies out of the fucking water in every way imaginable. Hands down the superior event. "Death has always followed War" - what a fucking badass line!
Hey Rob I just wanted to tell you because of your video like this and other bout different issues of Marvel and DC got me getting back into buying comics;just want to say thank you and keep up the awesome work
I've been falling DCeased through youtube channels and I so desperately need a single special edition massive comic of the entirety of the DCeased universe.
ITS HERE???!!!! I never got a notification!!! And I’ve been watching and reading the series over again!! TH-cam is starting to really blow…. The lack of Notifications and my “recommended” feed is HORRIBLE ..
I originally wasn't all for DCeased. I thought if was DC's Marvel Zombies at first. But then I listened to readings of the comic over the years, along with the spin-offs/sequels, and I realized something: Marvel Zombies was dark but goofy DCeased is dark but poetic I loved listening to the story as someone who got out of comics and wanted to get back in on a surface level (comics are expensive in bulk), and DCeased hits the mark with a story that beautifully tears down the old and builds up something new in ways you never expect. I'll miss this series
"My bats.
My sons.
My whole universe."
Alfred got me teary eyed up in here 😢

Bat onions... someone's cutting bat onions in the universe....

Ok so I have been out of the game for awhile. Is this part of mainstream universe or another universe? Is Batman dead? Or back already? Thx guys!
This was sad man. Alfred is alone. And that last part where Alfred is looking at the Bat constalation, oh... It just has a feel to it.
He's not really alone, that whole universe is Damien.

11:00 ok…ok…that’s an Apocalypse Lvl line
Good lordy. I've listened to this twice, and that ending line of Alfred's makes me cry every time. Oof. 😢
Man that last scene gets you hard. Amazing story. Way better than most DC stuff glad to listen you tell it. But man that last monologue and scene hits hard.
Easily one of the coolest DC stories in a HOT minute!
The throwback to Super Sons where he says “I’ll just sit here so you’re not alone” made me smile.
I don’t know why TH-cam didn’t send me your updates for almost 1 year but wow, you are good.
I love the way you tell the story. It’s like your speaking in 4K
Lobo picking his nose while trolling ares is hilarious. Whoever did the art for this dceased series needs to be put on all the zombie books because his rendering of the anti-life zombies is top notch creepy.
The ending brought tears to my eyes I loved it
As much as I hate to admit it, I really don't hate to admit it because it's not even a contest. This story blows Marvel Zombies out of the fucking water in every way imaginable. Hands down the superior event.
"Death has always followed War" - what a fucking badass line!
Man it's been a while since I watched a classic Rob style video and man this is peak
This was a really fun one! I wish there was more Lobo of course. The panels with Mxy vs The Spector was so epic! Good times!
Hey Rob I just wanted to tell you because of your video like this and other bout different issues of Marvel and DC got me getting back into buying comics;just want to say thank you and keep up the awesome work
It's been awhile since I've wanted a complete collection before this. This story was amazing
DCeased. Man, let me tell you something, it was legendary.
And people thought Injustice is the only Damien whom matters..... Which ruins his whole name......
I've been falling DCeased through youtube channels and I so desperately need a single special edition massive comic of the entirety of the DCeased universe.
I remeber watching the first DCeased comic and to watch it all end.. it really hurts but as someone said "all good things must come to an end..."
ITS HERE???!!!! I never got a notification!!! And I’ve been watching and reading the series over again!! TH-cam is starting to really blow…. The lack of Notifications and my “recommended” feed is HORRIBLE ..
Imagine your only power is to be a living computer and everyone was able to easily hack you and delete your files? C'mon, Cyborg.
THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST FRIGGIN STORIES!
I'm gonna buy the whole thing.
I originally wasn't all for DCeased. I thought if was DC's Marvel Zombies at first. But then I listened to readings of the comic over the years, along with the spin-offs/sequels, and I realized something:
Marvel Zombies was dark but goofy
DCeased is dark but poetic
I loved listening to the story as someone who got out of comics and wanted to get back in on a surface level (comics are expensive in bulk), and DCeased hits the mark with a story that beautifully tears down the old and builds up something new in ways you never expect.
I'll miss this series
Absolutely loved this story!!
