Sadly, yes. As much as I loved that car, I ended up selling both my Corvettes for a Porsche! Bitter-sweet. The C5 was/is a great car! Just couldn’t keep everything.
I really would have liked to heat a little more in first or second up at the top of the tachometer. Closer to 6k. Sounds great though. Next time skip the music ;)
What mirror are you using? I've been wanting to do that forever and got so happy when I saw it! Also, I plan to also do a complete delete of everything in my exhaust, I plan to cut the cat, res, and mufflers and replace with straight pipe. Is that what you did? Or did you have a full custom exhaust made?
That's actually just an Amazon mirror mounted to some 90 degree brackets I got at my hardware store. I actually made a video just talking about the mirror, so check that out on my channel! And yep, it's straight through. I didn't cut the cats out, I just bought a set of catless long tubes and an X-pipe from Speed Engineering. I had no fitment issues or anything and they were really inexpensive. Then it was just open 3" piping out the back. So there were no cats, no mufflers, no resonators.
@@charliemanger just watched it! Subscribed as well, love the channel man. So nice to see somebody building a C5 just to have a good time with it. Gonna give your bracket idea a try for sure! I've been wanting to do that mirror idea for a while now, and I watched your video for the exhaust but got super excited when I saw somebody else did the mirror on the dash! But thank you for your answers! Two more questions for ya, what harness bar did you install? The main option I see is the shark bar, I want the sprints in mine as well but harness bar needs to come first, so just curious what you went with and if you like it. 2nd, did you make your door cards custom? I've been looking for a more sleek/simple design to get rid of the gm plastic squeaky door panels for a while now, and if you have any insight on that, I'd greatly appreciate it! Thanks again man!
Really appreciate the kind words! The harness bar was actually a custom bar I made. I’ve got access to some great fabricators and powder coating, so I just designed it and had it built. The door cards I made as well, but that was a super easy Home Depot + Joanns fabrics project. I bought a big 4’x8’ sheet of corrugated plastic from Home Depot and just used cardboard to cut and shape the template, then traced it onto the plastic and cut it out. Then, once it fit well, I just wrapped it with some cheap vinyl fabric. Really easy!
@@charliemanger of course man! I also see you do car photography, I'm into the same thing! Sounds like we got a lot in common 👌 I'm definitely going to look into the door cards, that's a great idea. Looks way better & cleaner. Sadly I don't have access to any fabrication or powder coating unless I want to pay a ton of money, so I'll probably end up just throwing the shark bar in. I appreciate you sharing all of this man, this is what cars are all about 🙏 I'm sure I'll have some more questions at some point since you seem to be my go to build for inspiration.
How is the camera visibility at night? Was thinking about a similar setup with the mirror, but I'm worried it'd be practically useless at night with the glare from headlights at night
It was actually much more useable than you’d think. I had the same worries. The camera compensated the exposure for different lights, so it was actually really clear to see where headlights were. In the complete dark you couldn’t see anything, but that’s not really any different than a typical mirror. I’ve got a video on my channel talking about the mirror. You ought to go check it out! Definitely ask any questions!
Not yet! Cops around where I live are pretty cool, so they’re always nice when they see people taking pictures/videos. Just as long as they’re not being stupid!
might want to consider getting rid of the background music in future videos. people like to watch POV's for a few reasons and the sound is one of them. dont dull it out with some royalty free beat.
C5's? They can be very reliable. There are tons and tons of parts for GM's LS platform, so they're very cheap to fix and can make great power. Also, there's not really any tech in the car, so there's not much to go wrong.
the ding at the start is so satisfying!
Gonna miss that car!
The always on rear camera is perfect 👌🏼
Thanks! It turned out great. Super helpful on track too!
@@charliemanger what's your best 1/4 mile time?
I actually haven’t ever done any drag racing, so I’m not sure. I’ve just done road course track days.
@@charliemanger I just saw a vid about you getting ready to sell. Did you end up selling??

Clean that windshield…oops, never mind, had to clean my tablet. Nice video Charlie
Just what I needed Thanks
Awesome. Beast.
Couldn't hear the exhaust over that gay music
Right on!

Great sounds! Hope you never sell this American beauty for a janky Porsche! 💪🇺🇸👍
My plan is to find a C6 Grand Sport to replace the C5 as my track day car! I'm working on it!
