I have Hashimotos, went to 20 carbs or less a day Increased fats, protein. No sugar, no flour. No high glycemic veggies. Tough for the first few months After 6 months, I've lost 23 pounds, another 10 to 15 pounds to go. My thyroid antibodies number decreased by half. My tsh went from 2.6 to 1.80. I am not hungry until late afternoon or evening. Do not count calories at all Energy is much better. Eating just a few foods is also a good way to figure out what foods cause issues. No sugar, no flour moved my numbers in the right direction.
Most of my thyroid has been removed, I noticed hair loss and my skin is dryer. I tend to be colder too. I’ve always been small and never had a weight problem, but wasn’t long I could tell a difference. Finding a Dr to listen and doing the right text are very difficult to find Mary from Georgia
Mary, if you live near Guyton/Savannah.. look for Anna Banister. She is an NPC, and I used to see her. She may be able to help - she certainly listens more than others, and cares more than many. She was the only one to tell me I was estrogen dominant after a litany of doctors in other states, like Alabama.
I went from 5ogm of protein to 100-150gm a day and my thyroid is functioning now. I literally was starving by doctors advice for 15 years. 4 months eating and im better. Fasting (IF) is not calorie restriction is eating in a smaller window as we used to. If you don't eat enough the body will eat itself.
I refuse to count calories! Inflammation is a big issues with Hashimoto. I can feel my body getting leaner just by eating whole foods on a schedule with intermittent fasting. 1st meal is at 1 pm. Last meal around 5-6pm. It took a while to get to 2 meals.
@@maryptacek3453 Hi Mary! I've discovered any stress, upset or grief lowers the immune system and triggers inflammation and terrible pain. I do everything to avoid stress at all cost! I don't even watch a stressful movie . You can find lists online of Low Food Mop and Anti-inflammatory foods. I also take 20,000 IU's of vitamin D3 (see Dr. Berg's videos on Vit D3. It REALLY does help put autoimmune into remission!). I buy magnesium citrate from the grocery store. Cherry is best. I do a few tablespoons in a oz of water every few days. If I start hurting I know the magnesium will help. Dr Child's did a video on black seed oil a week ago. A good quality oil is very expensive so I found a recipe on YT for black seed tea (Nigella seeds but also known by other names in Asia). I got some at an Indian grocery store and cardomum pods. And make a tea also with fennel and fresh ginger. Following the recipe I found on YT. I woke up feeling great today!
I buy organic fruit in packets from Woolworths freezer. Works out much cheaper. I eat non farmed salmon from Aldi. Grass fed butter and meat. Definitely no gluten & grain Organic bone broth everyday.. “i use nutra organics” No coffee, no sugar. There’s tons more to write but i have to scoot off.
I heard that Intermittent fasting and keto is bad for your thyroid? My last test was 0.71 is that normal ? MY DOCTOR WANTS ME TO TAKE OZEMPIC BUT IM AFRAID OF GETTING THYROID CANCER MY MOM HAD IT AND ALSO ITS GOT BAD SIDE EFFECTS .I NEED TO LOSE 150 POUNDS IVE BEEN ON WEIGHT WATCHERS FOR OVER A YEAR AND ONLY DROPPED TWO SIZES NO POUNDS 😢
I am NOT trying to lose weight! On the contrary l need to PUT ON weight. But l can’t, and l also cannot afford to eat high protein foods. I usually skip evening meal to economise food so l do intermittent fasting by necessity. I never eat processed foods and l have cut out all sugar except l occasionally buy honey. Not sure this is good for my thyroid 🤔
I’m borderline underweight and have a history of an eating disorder, so restricting is a bad idea. Recently dx with Hashimotos - antibodies 14,000! Really struggling with what to eat.
Thank you for asking! I had TT as well. I wish my endocrinologist could put the pieces together. I’m gaining weight cold chills throughout the day dragging around yet my labs say I’m hyper T3 is high T4 is high TSH very suppressed. I want to fast but not sure what will happen to exogenous thyroid hormones. As for now my doc wants me to lower dose? I feel awful. It’s been 22 years of up and down mood energy etc
When you say that Allie is going to intermittent fast 3 days a week, what type of fast? Like 12 hours? I'm confused on where you would start and stop if you're just doing it 3 days a week.
I have thyroid & I am struggling to loose wait since I don't know how long. I get that intermittent fasting is good for thyroid patient & I have started doing it myself. Is water fasting also beneficial for people with thyroid or is it going to negatively impact it? I have tried looking all your information & descriptive videos which are really beneficial for us btw but somehow I was not able to get clear info on water fasting, may be I didn't understand it or something but could you please please let me with your knowledge
Hi Dr Childs, I have viewed several of your videos and you put out very useful information. But I want to mention, that, you talk way TOO fast. It's hard to understand you at times and I can even hear you gasp for breaths at times. Please try to slow it down, it would be very appreciated!! Thank you for your service to us Thyroid sufferers!
So sorry you're going through that😔. My mom went through chemo and had bad sugar cravings as well. Her doctor said the cravings for sugar specifically was because the body needs so much energy to recover from chemo. Her solution was more natural sugar like fruit salad with no filler whip cream and organic chocolate chips. Made a huge difference. Good luck with your health❤ Chemo is such a challenge
Such important information!! I went hard-core keto for quite some time, was feeling top of the world, losing weight super fast. I became a keto snob. One morning I woke up feeling okay but as the day went on something started feeling off and rapidly went downhill. Over the course of a few months I was in and out of hospital, electrolyte imbalance even though I wasgetting it everyday. My thyroid completely shut down and stopped responding to medication. My hashimotos antibodies were over 3000 and I was dying(literally). My body started eating my own muscle mass causing severe pain and spasms everywhere. After so much testing, multiple medications, hospital stays and a few months where I wasn't even able to drive. My doctor said thyroid patients absolutely MUST have carbs!! Labs will always look great at first and for a while but Long term carb deprivation will cause the body to go into shock and eat itself inside out. My doctor is a huge keto fan but he agrees it's not a good idea long term. I know the keto mobs will disagree but that was my experience. I put all the weight back on plus some and have not been able to lose a single pound since no matter what I do. Thanks for making such informative videos
Hello, I have been on thyroid medication for over 10 years and have maintained my weight. I experimented with stopping my thyroid medication and I actually was able to fluctuate my weight down and not so high as it was when I was on medication. I did feel more fatigued without the medication. I ended up going back onto the mediation and I gained all my weight back and now maintaining, unable to have any fluctuations like I had when I stopped it. I do feel not as fatigued, but my question is why do you not have the low weight fluctuations when on thyroid medication? I’m so baffled. TIA for any help on this.
Hello! ive had an eating disorder due to which my t3 decreased significantly. should i take t3 supplements? if i do will it afffect my bone mass, since i want to get taller? PS im 15
My TSH thyroid level is 0.42, which is on the low end of normal. Is that good, or should it be in the middle of the range? What supplements of yours do you recommend?
I would add that once you get beyond the menopause it is just impossible to change anything at all. Maybe a few tips for post menopausal women would be good. I am struggling to stay the same weight and have tried everything but I refuse to try any diet that sounds faddy. Basic calorie reduction and including as many healthy whole foods as possible, seems the best solution but I still struggle as I have all my life. As far as I know my thyroid is just low functioning and has been for 25 years.

I need to lose weight as pre diabetic, so was cutting carbs to 50g a day but now I’m worried after reading some of the comments. Confused 😕
I’d be thrilled with a pound a week. I tried carnivore and I lost 0 ponds in 25 days. Not for me. I didn’t even lose water fluid
Does supplementing with Adenosine 5'-Triphosphate disodium increase thyroid function? 500mg or 1000mg of ATP?
