PETERBILT FRAME STRETCH PT12 NEW TIRES AND NEW PROBLEMS! LIFT AXLE IS IN BAD SHAPE!

  • เผยแพร่เมื่อ 7 พ.ค. 2023
  • IN THIS VIDEO WE REMOVE THE LIFT AXLE FOM THE OTHER TRUCK. WE HAVE NAMED THE OTHER TRUCK "SOUP SANDWICH"....WHAT A MESS. AS WE REMOVE THE LIFT AXLE A WELD ACTUALLY FALLS OFF THE TRUCK! WE THEN TEAR THE AXLE APART TO INPSECT ITS CONDITION. JUST LIKE EVERYTHING ELSE ON THESE TRUCKS, IT IS WORN OUT, IMPROPERLY REPAIRED OR NEGLECTED. SO TIRED OF THIS JUNK....WE JUST WANT TO QUIT. I GET ALL THE PARTS ORDERED. THEN WE MOVE ON TO TIRES. IT GETS 8 NEW DRIVE TIRES. WE INSTALL THEM ON THE DAYTON HUBS AND CENTER THEM. SET THE RIDE HEIGHT AND START TO GET HTE DRIVESHAFT INSTALLED.....BUT WAIT! THERE IS MORE! THE DRIVE SHAFT YOKE IS WORN OUT AND HAS NO THREADS IN TWO OF THE BEARING CAP RETAINER BOLT HOLES! PERFECT!! ANOTHER DELAY AND MORE MONEY!
    SO CLOSE. YET SO FAR....

You need a tire cage. Yes I know those are not split rims, but in my time mounting truck tires I had about one new recap a week that would blow out while airing it up. Just saying I don't want to see you hurt. You do nice work.

Your understanding and explanation of drive lines and u joints is spot on. My opinion is based on building drive lines for years as a technician. I enjoyed watching as always. Thanks for your time as I know it's valuable.

Thank you for showing how difficult it is to properly stretch out a frame and replace all the worn parts. It is also nice to see you have sown how bad other individuals shortcut and butcher a frame job. That is one of the worst frames I've ever seen that you took the drop axle off of. Please keep making these videos.

We always ran recaps cross country. Just not on the steering axle of course. Recaps are lots cheaper and they last longer than you might think. Keep on trucking JC.

I am amazed at every project you build. Your like a modern day Dr. Frankenstein. You take rusty, worn out, and broken parts that no one would look at twice and assemble them into useful, working trucks. It shows that with a lifetime of knowledge, money and drive anything can be accomplished.

Here in the UK we call that sort of welding "Pigeon Shit" lol. The worst welding I've ever seen on a vehicle of any sort! That bearing pre load was far too tight. There is something wrong with that spacer. Maybe the idiot who did the work ground a bit off of it lol I'd check manufacturers of hubs specs for the spacer dimensions. Personally I would have changed the hub bearings but, hey I used to love spending customers money lol Your explanation of the prop shaft geometry was absolutely excellent. I don't think that could have been explained better anywhere!

I just discovered this series so i havent watched all the videos. When stretching a truck frame the steering arms usually need to be changed to give proper steering geometry. The arm on the spindle that the drag link and the tie rod ends attach to. The reason is if they are not the right arms for the frame length the steering tires will not be in sync and will fight each other.

Chop that junk frame into foot long sections and let a local blacksmith make some knives from those frame bits. So something useful can be made from the junk. Chopping it up makes sure it can't somehow make its way back under a cab to be on the road again.

Presumably the owner is working on a budget or he wouldn't be dealing with an older truck. However when you compare the repairs to the cost of a new truck he will be ahead. Once the problems are fixed correctly this truck will probably be more reliable than a brand new truck

To anyone out there that might (or will at one time) have said 'Why do I need to know math? I'll never use any of that' or something similar....Well....This is why. Those pesky numbers and geometric theorems can and will pop up anywhere and everywhere...regardless of how little you might think you'll 'never use them'.
TBH....I'm not even sure how I ended up on this channel. I'm not a trucker, I wouldn't even think of calling myself a mechanic....I do have some fabrication and engineering experience but nothing as involved as making sure a several ton potential death trap is safe for the work it is intended and the roads it will use. That said....I'm a new fan. Correcting the lazy work of butchers AND math combined with some hard work and willingness to learn? I'm all for that.
Thank you for providing this content...I may not ever use anything learned personally (at least not in this particular field or application) but someone, somewhere will and passing on your knowledge and ability has immense value and again...I can't thank you enough.

The tank is not supposed to be solid mounted to the frame so it can move independent of the frame, otherwise it can crack. Where those washers were, they were supposed to be springs. I am very surprised anyone drive this away from the shop or didn't check in on his work.
