You two are the best advertisement for the deep muscle, heavy lifting crazy rigor of philosophical curiosity - the fruit of joyfulness. Honed intellects with light hearts. You are Sartres without the Sartre, Nietszche without the mustaches. You are what keeps precious the history and life of ideas.
Dr. David: "Do you know a joke?"
Dr. Ellie: "Yes."
Everyone else: *waits*
Dr. David: "Okay next question!"
Solid gold. 😭😭😭😭 In all seriousness though, I found the 'third and final wish' to be much more revealing... and admirable.
After the long pause i knew she was going to say "reading"

All you need is ontological certainty, just like The Beatles said...sort of
As an author myself the dream of getting to skip the arduous process of multiple drafts is a total mood… heck I would be giddy just skipping the first draft, that one is extra painful 😅
Oh and if you were wondering ... here is the joke:
The Dean asks the head of Physics Department to see him.
"Why are you using so many resources? All those labs and experiments and whatnot, this is getting too expensive! Why can't you be more like Mathematicians - they only need pens, paper and a trash bin. Or Philosophers! They only need pens and paper!"
Sorry Dr Ellie 😉
Springtime?
My celebrity crush is Mrs. Pac-man. ❤
It seems to me that ontological insecurity is inescapable. Schopenhauer suggested that the contemplation of art could be a form of succor. Even better is making it, which embodies the paradox of desire and submission. Nothing is as vain as wanting to make something exceptional, yet this engenders a process fraught with risk and the absence of control. Art isn't life, but its meaning.
Reading...a trend from the 90s? Yes...90s BCE.
Is it more centred about World philosophy or just western philosohy? The podcast. The YT channel.
Why not a lot of Lao tzu or Advaita??
Hi there! We've discussed this in some places--we both did our PhDs in the US at a program that specialized in European philosophy and the history of (Western) philosophy, so those are our areas of expertise. We discuss world philosophy, including Asian philosophy, at times on the podcast and find non-Western traditions important and interesting, but it's also important to acknowledge that these are not our areas of expertise. The unfortunate reality in US-based programs is that there are few programs that train philosophers in non-Western traditions at the graduate level, although hopefully this will change in the future!
@@OverthinkPodcastPhilosophy thanks for the clarity.
