10:42 I think you confused the launch transient you can see right at the top of the screen (for a split second you see the torpedo symbol) from S2, for a rocket launched torpedo hitting the water. You're really lucky that Mk48 you fired to activate at point blank didn't turn around and come after you. That would have been a massive problem to evade.

How would the Mk48 have come after him? Every torpedo he fired was in a zig zag search pattern and he changed depth soon after. The opposing sub would have to have a very specific nosiemaker pattern and keep relatively the same depth as him for the torpedo to track him. It runs pretty much straight so it would need a fairly specific pattern to loop around to him yet alone be at the correct depth. He would have to be pretty unlucky in my estimation. This is the exact same reason I use the zig zag pattern so often when I'm at close range. I can shoot and scoot and change depth and be pretty safe.

      1) Yes, I thought a submarine was there. I put some text in post/edit for the video later alluding to this, and you probably saw my chasing a phantom Akula after the two Victors were down.
      2) Evading the Mk48 has already become a routine pastime of ours :)

Does the player create the knuckle or is the crew AI completing?

In this case, I (the player) am. I'm not sure you can tell the crew to create one.

Loving this game, however I keep finding my self being detected by the enemy and sunk way too easy. Any tips for detection and getting torps off on the enemy without them noticing me?

Rig for silent running (Shift+S by default). Speed is the biggest noise factor for detection. Or if it's surface ships using active, I like to stay deep and keep a narrow profile (nose on or tail on). Good luck!

In a 1984 or 2000 US sub, start at max range, your sensors will almost always pick up the enemy regardless of being that far away (the main exceptions being the Diesel subs like the Kilo if they're at lower speeds, you might need active sonar to detect them) and your Mk48's will have enough range to hit the enemy from that distance, then start silent running as soon as the map loads, if you have a layer you can stay below it to help stop detection from surface ships.
I played a seawolf campaign a few weeks ago and by starting at range I never took a single hit in a dozen missions and most of the time they never even fired at the sub, only along the bearing of my incoming torpedoes. Which I would launch off to the side before bringing them in later (doglegging) to make the return fire miss. Main problem became silent diesel subs that I would have to use active sonar for, and random detections from helos & planes.

Wiki reports 8 were commissioned, 7 completed , 1 cancelled. With 7 now being retired. Test depth listed as 1,148 ft or 350m.

Thanks for the data! I don't know the count for us but maybe it's around 5.
