Dan used Betty's body like a children's factory and wasn't very pleased with her decision to actually do something else than just having children. He also used her as a training buddy during his college years to help him pass his exams. He used her confidence in him to go out and build his business. He used her good taste to finely decorate his offices. He used her motherly skills to raise children that didn't become thugs or drug addicts. Basically he sucked a lot out of her and she had no reason to believe that would one day collapse. He and the kids were her main support system. It seems her parents were rather critical most of the time. Dan really took everything from her quite happily so. She had absolutely no more support system. Once I was told: "never enter into a fight with someone that has absolutely nothing to lose". Dan took everything that made her a balanced person, so she became that person that found herself having nothing more to lose. Being a San Diego resident having familiarity with the Broderick murders - Christian Slaters brilliant portrayal of Dan Broderick. Physically and mentally! CS on screen performance was phenomenal completely credible
I think Dan needed killen and his young scank wife too,Cheers to Betty ! Set Betty free ! He drove her to snap ! After she bumped them off I would have found her not guity by temporary insanity and allowed her custody of the childten and control of the estate on their behalf.
No matter how hard they tried to pad up and make Amanda peet look unattractive they just couldn’t! She really played the part well though so did Cristian.
Remember one of the jurors says, "What took you so long?". I will say the same thing. The husband was a classic narcissist and those kinds of personalities cannot have a healthy relationship. Betty was triggered by the situations that her hubby had to put her through. In the end, her depression spiraled down into a clinical case that led her to kill. She's already lost her sense of sanity that resulted in deep anger at how she was mistreated badly by the man she puts into the pedestal. People will say she should have left them & lived her own life away from them. But it became an obsession in the end for her to put the law in her hands which will give her the justice she is seeking. I sympathize with her but I do not agree with her killing her husband since it is against the 10 commandments for God. But due to her insanity triggered by her narcissistic hubby, she was killed in a pre-meditated way when she bought the gun. I feel that she should be released because she is not a danger to society. She just had to kill her hubby to end her miseries in life. She should plea insanity so she will be released from prison. We have to remember the debate on nature versus nurture. Her insanity is not due to genetics but it was triggered by the nasty mistreatment of her husband. Her insanity was due to environmental factors in this case. She needs therapy from her anger management and for her clinical depression. Thank you. Please check my podcast on Apple - podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/pandemic-podcast-coronavirus/id1514541632
Betty is in jail because of her own cruel actions, it doesn't negate the fact that she was a victim of narcissistic abuse. I wish that Betty had gotten therapy & let The Divine Creator take the wheel of Justice to assisting her to piece her life back together. Many blessings to the women, who like me, have given away their power to narcissistic abuser. We must LOVE OURSELVES FIRST. 💚❤🖤
Slater captured Dan very well. Peets' performance paled in comparison to Meredith Baxter's, portrayal of Betty in "A Woman Scorned: the Betty Broderick Story".
I feel like you did such a good job, it was scary. I was married to a real dirty John (his name is John and he’s doing time for the murder of my friend). The thing that creeps me out the most about this Betty season is that she had no family support. I feel sorry for her. Amanda Peet and Christian Slater, you guys did an awesome job, because you scared me.
*DJ Dre Jolly Oh my goodness yes!! Kevin Costner in Robin Hood was a great movie. He looked amazing! I still remember Christian Slater in Heathers and was instantly in love. He had and still has the “wow” factor.
Well Hey ---was right on , with what was said . I totally agree with her there is a way to handle something and there’s a wrong way to handle it and Betty Broderick totally could have handle it the way it would have brought about a better outcome. I understand the time period she was in . However she was given a very favorable settlement that was very lucrative in that time. Her problem was she never excepted the fact that he had a right to leave her and get a divorce. I do not condone nor agree with her choice to ambush her ex-husband and his wife in their bed . Pulling out the telephone showed cruel and unusual punishment. Because this would have given him a chance to be rescued and receive medical attention. Even if she hated him it was very wrong for her to do that to her children’s father. what I have seen and read about her response to her children it does not surprise me she didn’t care how they felt. she just used them as a pawns anyway to send negative reactions to Dan Broderick and that was so wrong.
Its time to petition to #FreeBettyBroderick 35 years as model prsioner, a book detailing her regret for her actions but no legal system will help her. They used illegal recordings to help prosecution but refused witnesses who would help hers even the ones who knew he was trying to put a hit on her. Yet they praise Dan. #FreeBettyBroderick
What a crazy series! I’m almost done with it, but seeing the real life footage.😳🙈 I’ve always loved Christian Slater and he’s always been very good at playing sadistic bastards. Also, that interviewer is lying. LOL. She was not around in the 80’s!! I was and I don’t remember this story. I think there was so much crime at the time. My parents were always focused on the kidnappings and crazy people putting razed blades in Halloween candy.
Yes, I agree. Betty was abused and mistreated but the judge gave her $16, 000 a month and visitation with her kids. She could have walked away and lived a pretty decent life instead of murdering two people. Now she will probably sit in prison the rest of her life because of her poor judgement.
There was no visitation with her kids. The house Betty lived in was under Dan’s name so the $16,000’/month went to the house expenses. So basically his own pocket. Betty explained this since many brought up these points against her.
I would completely agree with Christian and Amanda. My parents were of the baby boomer generation like Betty and Dan and watching this series - which was brilliant and they were both fantastic in it - was like watching my parents life! My dad was hitting 40 at the same time, super successful and having affairs as part of a massive mid life crisis like Dan! My mum like Betty was a housewife and mother to me and my two sisters and basically gave up her career to support my Dad even flying and moving to Australia from the UK leaving all her family and friends behind! So like Dan my Dad left my Mum for another woman who he had been having an affair with, tho he lied like Dan to mum when she would ask why he was late home & was he cheating on her and like Dan he did a very good job of gaslighting her and saying she was paranoid and acting crazy! Like Betty my mum fell apart when Dad left I was 12 and my sisters were 9 and 6 and I had to grow up overnight and basically become the adult my mum couldn’t! Like Linda the woman my dad left mum for knew he was married and knew he had 3 young children but pursued him relentlessly anyway until he finally left! Honestly before she killed Dan & Linda I don’t think Betty acted so very different to my mum, mum hated that the other woman got the life she had been living. Mum was bitter for a very long time and she used us as a way to hurt dad because she unlike Betty retained custody of us. Tho she did say to us at one point that she was going to drop us at dads house where he was living at the time with Gail (the other woman) to see if he could cope coz like Dan dad was never home and never ever got involved in raising us that was mums job! So he had no clue and still doesn’t on what it actually means to be a parent! But mum couldn’t do it I guess we were all she had left and I think a small part of her wanted to use us as leverage or a way to get back or hurt dad. It was a terrible divorce they hated each other and we were in the middle unfortunately used by them both so they could find out information about the other which they’d both use to get back at or hurt each other, so this sort of behaviour wasn’t unique to Dan and Betty! I think it was just that generation they grew up in the 50’s and 60’s and were expected to get married, have kids & stick to the specific gender roles of the time ( the man works the woman stays home and raises the kids) and talking about feelings or showing emotions wasn’t really encouraged they just had to get on with it!! Which is why I think they like Dan & Betty were sooooo bad at dealing with things, talking about things esp with us kids. They never sought outside help for themselves or us because they just didn’t know how to put their shit aside, to put our welfare first, to be amicable and not argue or in mums case go a little crazy, break down and rant to us ( more specifically me who was 12 at the time) about how much she hated dad, tell me explicit details of his numerous affairs, particularly the affair with the whore as she called the woman he left her and us for. So like Dan and Bettys kids we weren’t safe in a stable environment, we could never talk about the divorce, our hurt or pain and we could never ask them for help because their stuff especially mums was so huge it eclipsed everything else and spilled out all over us. They also went through divorce and court in the late 80’s and I actually don’t think Betty got screwed over solely because Dan was a lawyer and had connections because her experience was similar to mums. I think the courts or law at that time seemed to favour the man especially when it came down to the financial settlement/aspects of the divorce. Being a housewife and mother were not really seen as valid work contributions that today they would be. In some ways it’s more labour intensive because it’s not only unpaid labour but there are no built in breaks especially with young kids they and we at the time certainly didn’t stop pestering mum or demanding her attention so she could have an hour off for lunch!!! The courts obviously saw dad’s work and therefore his earnings as a much more valuable contribution and that while mum was entitled to support, the amount she received was pretty pitiful because they saw it as his money not their money so didn’t feel she was entitled to half of what he had earned. So getting next to nothing in child support or alimony meant mum then had to work full time just so we could keep a roof over our heads. Like Dan, dad also hid or squirrelled money away and even refused to put us his own kids on his private health insurance coz he didn’t want to pay all the bills and thought it was a ploy by mum to get more money!! At the end of the day it really is the kids that suffer and lose the most, you lose your parents, your family, your childhood, the unconditional love and support and the safety and stability to grow up and thrive! You see & hear things from your parents that as a 12 year old you should never have to see or hear and it destroys a part of you you never get back & causes untold permanent damage! I’ve struggled with mental health and addiction issues my entire life and at 45 have never married or had kids because I just couldn’t bear & was terrified of repeating my parents marriage and inflicting that pain and hurt onto any kids I may have had. My sisters have also struggled especially with their relationships, but tho I truly believe that my life would have been entirely different had my parents stayed together or split amicably and put our wellbeing before their mid life crisis or anger I don’t hate my parents and I have forgiven them! People forget that they may be a mum or dad or a husband or wife but they are also just human beings and as humans they are flawed, live through trauma, loss and hurt and like us all they will constantly make mistakes and fall down!!! It’s kind of liberating when you realise that and take them down from the pedestal that you’ve had them on from the day u were born!! Watching this really was like reliving my childhood and my parents marriage/divorce! It was uncanny how so much of what happened to Betty & Dan, how they behaved, their choices and actions actually mirrored that of my parents when they split! I know that the time period, the 80’s, had a lot to do with it but I also think being a part of that generation- the baby boomers - was pretty significant and a fundamental contributing factor as well.
@@waqif8928 Haha - yeah well sort of - Dad eventually married the woman he left mum and us for but then wouldn’t you know it like all notorious womanisers he ended up cheating on her with a woman literally about 5 years older than me! So he left his second marriage after a huge financial pay out for this younger woman who moved herself and her kids in with him and basically used dad for his money as he was pretty well off by then. But then karma- she started cheating on my Dad with younger guys and actually a few of his work colleagues 🤣🤣🤣 I think mum was extremely happy about that!! So she ended up leaving after Dad had to then pay her out - so even more karma 🤣🤣Dad’s remarried again tho but at least his wife now is a really lovely person and we all love her and told dad he better not stuff this one up or we’re not talking to him again!! Lol 😆. Unfortunately mum hasn’t been as lucky she’s had one relationship since that didn’t work out but I don’t think she will ever trust a man again after what dad did to her. That’s sad and she has never sought help so she still holds onto some resentment and bitterness but she is in a much better place than she was and obviously has me and my sisters and my sisters kids who all try and look out for her! It would have been nice tho if she could have had a happier outcome but I guess that’s just how life works out sometimes! ☺️

Nothing wrong with saying you've studied it, but no, you don't remember this. It's not something children would have access to and no decent parent would let their kid watch the news coverage on a horrific murder case.
Clearly, this mini-series *("The Betty Broderick Story")* exists to victim-blame Dan Broderick & sympathize with his cold-blooded murderer, but considering that I don't believe Slater's worked in a while, I suppose I can't blame him too much for accepting the role.
What are they playing with this story? Amanda looks NOTHING like Betty. Betty wasn't a sweet dainty little housewife. She was narcissistic and entitled. Where is the scene where she threw the ring across the floor on Christmas day "because it wasn't the one she wanted" while screaming "You ruined Christmas" or the scene where she set his clothes on fire?
MsRainbow Brite Get over it, they are great actors and Christian Slater always plays a great villain. Betty was beautiful when they married and Dan was a dweeb and got a nose job. I like this version because it has more depth of why she was driven to the point that she killed them. It’s much nicer than just watching the queen of lifetime movies running around like a crazy person with no justification.
She wasn't supposed to be getting $200,000 a year. The total Dan was paying her at most was $160,000 each year. But at the very end of it all, she owed him so much in fines that it totaled almost $300,000 by the time that dirty ex of hers got done.

Jeanine Foster She shouldn’t have to say sorry Jack! When are we going to give women the same standard when they dare to fight the PATRIARCHY?!?

Wow they both hit the nail on the head with this story and how different the story is today and how different things would’ve turned out For the divorce which may have really helped Betty had the results been different and perhaps this never would’ve happened
I first saw Christian Slater in The name of the rose. He was 17 and played Edso. He acted opposite Sean Connery. He was brilliant in Mr Robot too. 😃
SO detailed! Love this show
no wonder Christian did such a great portrait of Dan, since he himself has been drunk driving, fought cops, been trying to take a gun on a plane, and even been violent against his girlfriend !! and bettter yet, he groped a woman on the street. well done Slater.

So, I guess she was a murder fan in kindergarten.
GetMeThere1 The Betty Broderick movies came out in the early 90s, maybe that is how she knew of it
Being a San Diego resident having familiarity with the Broderick murders - Christian Slaters brilliant portrayal of Dan Broderick.
BRAVO
Excellent portrayal of two selfish and ego driven people who felt entitled to what they wanted in spite of the pain inflicted on their children.
Watching it now! Love you guy's 💜
Great interview
He was very kind when I met him.i was at the wrap party of Interview with a vampire
I pray every single day that this man is not part of the disgraceful things being reported

No matter how hard they tried to pad up and make Amanda peet look unattractive they just couldn’t! She really played the part well though so did Cristian.
The show is amazing! I love Christian Slater
Thank you.

Christian is wonderful in everything he does.
Slater captured Dan very well. Peets' performance paled in comparison to Meredith Baxter's, portrayal of Betty in "A Woman Scorned: the Betty Broderick Story".
Peet was way better than Baxter to me.
He's still hot. He looked like a creep as Dan in that crazy wig lol .
Its a shame all the interviews had to be virtual. I loveddddd this!
They did an incredible job loved it
Christian Slater and Amanda Peet did a great job. Fine actors.
Put the next episode on TH-cam. I saw the others were taken down. Surprised,
Christian Slater is awesome in this role. Holy cow, the ultimate jerk. Amanda Peet was amazing as well the 2 together made the show. Well done all.
Jenn Lahmers was born in 1984. This happened in 1989. 🙄
Highly underrated actors & show
I feel like you did such a good job, it was scary. I was married to a real dirty John (his name is John and he’s doing time for the murder of my friend). The thing that creeps me out the most about this Betty season is that she had no family support. I feel sorry for her. Amanda Peet and Christian Slater, you guys did an awesome job, because you scared me.
In heathers I thought he was so cute
Yes he was 💖💖💖 that and Robin Hood with Kevin Costner 😉
Jamie C he is still just as good looking! His mom is beautiful too, he must have gotten it from her
*DJ Dre Jolly Oh my goodness yes!! Kevin Costner in Robin Hood was a great movie. He looked amazing! I still remember Christian Slater in Heathers and was instantly in love. He had and still has the “wow” factor.
Get Christian Slater to play Uncle Ben in the MCU.
LOVING !!! this one. Wow.
FREE BETTY
I think Betty was a sadistic and demented individual. Dan made a fatal error of underestimating her and he paid with his life.
MEN PREFER FLOOZEES
Christian Slater has gotten hotter with age.
Its Mr. Robot!!!!!
With Betty's anger no matter how much
Christian Slater is à good actor 👍👍🔥🔥🔥👏👏👏👏
HAPPY 51TH BIRTHDAY CHRISTIAN SLATER !!!
So enjoyed this movie!! Just glad there was not the scene where betty smears feces on her walls!!!
Why is this called “Dirty John”?
So True about Dan...
Did ur dad stick to the other girl or did they face karma ????
Slater came upon my radar when he made Pump Up the Volume...totally 90s cult classc
That's awesome I want to see it
I think both christian slater and amanda were perfect actors for Dan and Betty. Slater did such a great job that i hated Dan Broderick!!
How old is this interviewer...I was 9 when this happened and dont remember, and she looks about 10 years younger than me......how the HELL did she remember??
Very silly comment she couldn’t possibly remember the 80s early 90s
Slater can geeet ittt, fiiiine ass!!!
I hate hollywood - with the exception of these two actors .. I have not watched a movie in years.. but I will be watching this movie.
She so pretty lol but she lookin like she just wakin up or been exhausted haha
Did you notice the pedo signs in this show and the reference to 666.
Even id Dan gave Betty half ..she still would have killed him is more than about the money..years of her sacrifi e ..Dam even said in the movie he cant work he needs to go to school
Jenn Lahmers being a poser acting like she remembers the original trial. Liar! She was 5 years old. Hate it when media have to act like they know something they do not.
Christian Slater is always a guarantee.
Lifetime did a great 2-part. Not interested in seeing it again.
Nothing like the LIFETTIME movie. This one is much closer to the book.
Kris Simmons Good to know... I just don’t want to see the same story again.
Honesty it’s not the same story at all, this show goes a lot deeper into Dans character, it’s very interesting
Annoying interviewer!
Love Amanda and Christian!
And I’m sure they will show those scenes.
It was a powder keg just waiting to go off. The only victims here are the children bc they grew up without both parents
MsRainbow Brite
She doesn’t need to look like Betty 🤷♀️ it’s a role.
Ummm Dan was the narcissistic pig!
Peet looks awful to me?
Reality is that no one looks amazing all of the time...sigh
LillianaBMS no, i mean as an Esthetician' I noticed she is very sallow, and sickly looking to me

Knowing the children this series is so not true to ALL facts.
It's not supposed to be exactly true to life. It's for entertainment purposes. Don't take it so seriously.
Where is the evidence, that Dan emotionally abused Betty?
From their children's interviews...
@@espreedupree Reference? Evidence?

What fucking evidence are you gonna have?

Irrelevant. She was entitled to 50%.
@@Melbelle-nl9vn no...she was not entitled 50%
She should have got 100%
She wasn't supposed to be getting $200,000 a year. The total Dan was paying her at most was $160,000 each year. But at the very end of it all, she owed him so much in fines that it totaled almost $300,000 by the time that dirty ex of hers got done.
Great show. The movie didn't go into such detail, but this did. I trust that this was probably closer to what actually happened.
