- This is an epoxy hybrid piece of Manzanita wood that has a double coat of clear epoxy for the finish. I’ve always wanted to try this I think it turned out very well ask extremely beautiful piece of wood that was mixed with the epoxy to fill the void and then I came back and clearcoated the entire outside as well as the inside with two coats of epoxy. I hope you like the video. I hope to make a few more of these as we get into the summer. I have found a few of the manzanita Burls and I’m looking forward to make more and learning the Ins and out of doing these. I hope you watch and learn as we go. Thanks for watching the videos.

Darren, great job there buddy the colours in that wood is amazing
Thank you Alan, I’ve been trying for long time to find a way to show the beautiful colors that is hidden inside these little burls.
Beautiful
Thank you Clyde
Looks good. I have a large manzanita burl that was originally an epoxy coated table base and my plan is to cut it into smaller pieces and I hope it works out as well as yours.
That’s a great idea Walt, just give it a new purpose. Look forward to seeing what you come up with.
The epoxy finish really made the color pop! Do you think if you’d turned it at a higher speed, there’d be less chip out? Pohl Barn likes turning his wood/epoxy bowls at 1200 rpm.
I don’t know if the high speed would help. The angle of the carbide tip seems to be the issue. If it’s not beveled I always get chip out. I take older carbide and bevel them on the diamond wheel. Theo they peal off this long ribbons. I don’t mind the chip as long as a big chunk doesn’t fly off making a deep hole. That’s hard to recover from. Thank you Mr Taco. Appreciate you watching my videos
Aiden says hi!
Please tell him hi for me
I was wondering how you kept he epoxy from running a guess just appl heat and remove bubbles. You’re bowl turned out nice love the dark color
Thank you Jim, I just
Kept the lathe running while it dried and that prevents the epoxy from running and dripping. The slowest setting on my lathe was 50 RPMS. That worked well. I just don’t want to run my lathe that slow for long as it might over heat the motor.
