Hiking in Southern England, Combe Gibbet in Berkshire UK

  • Combe Gibbet is on top of a ridge in West Berkshire, UK. From the ridge you can see four counties, Oxfordshire to the North, Wiltshire to the west, Hampshire to the south, and you're stood in Berkshire.
    The gibbet was built in 1676 for the public display of two people found guilty of murder. They were hung here but previously killed in a public hanging in Winchester, 30 miles away.
    Combe Gibbet is located around 10 miles away from Newbury town centre and 8 miles from the famous Highclere castle from Downton abbey.
