I print on Kokuyo paper for my inserts. It’s thinner but does well with gel pens and FPs too. It’s helpful to keep your planner bulk down. Can’t wait to hear how your gonna setup your new system Sam!
I've always kept a minimal, pared-down ring planner. I have a few blank (or partially blank) pages in the front for notes, then the year's and quarter's goals to use when planning months & weeks. Financial tracker fold-out, monthly activities tracker, month of daily routines tracker on the back of the monthly calendar, hobonichi weeks-esque weekly but with grid on the left and days on the right so I can see both month folded out to the left and week on the right together. A few pages with notes. I have a long-standing color code, & I use a stripe of juicy neon hightlighter (my faves, I'm not a mild-liner person :) across the top: pink for personal, orange for house, green for finance (might be useful as a way for you to categorize your notes without tabs). I print on Tomoe River paper & use TRP for notes pages, so I can have more pages for less bulk. I keep only the current month & current week in my planner. I do have a "future log" -- 2-pane fold-out, 3 months on a page -- where I keep Holidays, Birthdays & Anniversaries, appointments. I was using a Personal size Filofax Clipbook, but just got a Personal Compact Filofax Holborn -- 15mm rings -- so I need to keep bulk pared down. The Clipbooks have very little overhang, so most conventional tabs would stick out; I've made the 3 dividers I use from patterned cardstock cut just ever so slightly larger than personal page size.
LOL, this is the problem with disc/ring set-ups--they enable hoarders like me! Yet, it is so gratifying to do a purge! Cleansing! And then you re-discover something you forgot about and now you want to visit it every day/week/month. I have learned so much from my "purges," and it is bringing me Peace!
I‘m totally with you when it comes to a slim planner. Just moved back into a Filofax in personal size and found out that all my stuff easily fits into 23mm rings and I love it. I even don‘t need 25mm anymore. I use weeklies (WO2P) and dailies from Filofax and have only printed a few inserts like monthly habit tracker and health log. Apart from a flower dashboard I don‘t decorate my planner at all.
Must admit I do love a chunky planner, but everything in my planner actually gets used. I go through mine beginning of each month and take out stuff no longer needed. The best thing I use is my coded inbox inserts from Plan with bee. I could not survive without those ❤️❤️
Sam, I honestly tried printing custom daily and weekly inserts and besides costing a huge not worth it amount, I felt compelled to go back to Filofax inserts. I like week on a page with notes (lined) on the other side. If I want to track I can sketch in a quick tracker on the lined side. For the price and convenience they are the best. The stress of making, cutting my own inserts was too much. It’s a fun craft but after all I don’t always have that kind of time. Plus, I must be an idiot but I wasted so much paper trying to print them properly. The poor trees sacrificed! I still love my rings but pocket. I love your set up and how well your insights work for you. I also use a Travellers Company system for other things but my main planner is still the Filofax. Now prices are so high for the Filofax Croc I’m so glad I got mine 4 years ago. I also enjoy the pear Filofax pocket planner. I use it on off season to house any inserts or sections I still use but not as often. I don’t carry mine with me though. I plan and then leave it behind. I do carry a Field Notes leather cover with 2 Field Notes books in and there I have all my lists. Groceries, wish list, planner supplies, to dos and other lists. It doesn’t need to ever be decorated and is light and portable. I’ve got a desk full of stuff for these 3 systems so I don’t ever get FOMO! anymore! Happy Fall. I know you love this season. C
I'm looking forward to your plan for 2024; I've been trying to find a way to keep up with a daily tracker but also have it as a bigger picture situation. :)

Where do you get your Hobo Weeks-esque pages? TY
Agree with using rings makes things changeable and move pages around, I'm enjoying my commonplace in my binder rings 😄

It’s always good to pair down a bit in my opinion.
This was so satisfying 😂
I am like you. I keep a slim personal ring planner. Every time it gets bulky, I trim it back down. 👍

Noooooo, no junk in my planner! I’m not a chunky, decorative planner person either. I do like stickers tho! Happy Halloween Sam ❤

If you use it all, definitely chunk it up!

Sounds like you have your system figured out! As much as I like choosing and printing inserts, I don’t have as much time to do all the things.

I’m excited to share! As soon as everything gets here. 😅
TFS Sam. Glad this is working for you 🙂 My fave Filofax inserts are the week on one page diary with notes & the yearly fold out sheet.
Those are both on the way!
@@samplans Oh nice that's awesome 🙂 Look forward to see how you use them. I use the fold outside for impt dates & tracking.
