    Man you like 25' tapes! I like a little variety. I have 9' ,12' ,16' ,25' ,35' ,100' all different brands. Old USA made Craftsman, new Craftsman's, old 80's USA made Lufkin (before Crescent bought them). Lol I love tape measures!

    The Lufkin looks cool. I like the Stanley fat max, but the locking mechanism seems to break easily. I’ve had two where the black thumb lever just broke off. The tape can still be used by whirling a little wedge out of shim stock.

    Was walking thru Lowes today and I seen a 16ft & 25ft bundle for 19.99 put on a random rack like somebody decided halfway thru shopping they didnt want it. I snatched it so quick. Was planning on getting one anyways instead I got 2 for half the price of 1 lol

    I started in the building trades in 1992. The standard tape back then was the chrome 25’ Stanley power lock. Then along came the fat max to change the game. Now it’s 2021 and the fat max is still the most popular tape on the jobsite.
    My 50 year old eyeballs like the idea of an easier to read tape by lufkin but they just don’t hold up to heavy use. Probably OK for the homeowner but not up to par for the professional.

      A lot of people are reporting lufkin's tips snapping off in paricular magnetic ones - it's a shame as I like this design more than any other... eventually decided to get Makita based on positive reviews but am thinking about getting FatMax too to see which one's better to use and will outlive the other.

      That Lufkin got all messed up the first day on the job. Did not mistreat it. Went right back to Stanley.

    I agree
    I have
    Stanley power lock
    Stanley fat max
    Lufkin shockforce nuteyes
    Powerlock was my first
    Then had Lufkin really nice the lock had problem
    Shockforce is my highly recommend tape, it is heavy I find it worth it.

    I have 4 of the lufkins, 2 ends have snapped off but I keep buying them for whatever that’s worth. I build and install custom cabinets and I otherwise love these tape measures

    @3:19 the tape measure hook at the end isn't just diamond coated for grip. Primarily, the use of it with such a coating is to scribe through just about any material. It's one of my favorite features.

    Semper if! Good review I’ve been trying to look for a solid tape measure and it can be exhausting like many other tools out there but I think Milwaukee you can’t go wrong with.

    for 15 years i always used stanley fat max but last year i got a free lufkin shockforce from crescent tools and its awesome

  • @jeffalan6339
    @jeffalan6339 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Your not the only one that likes the night eyes.
    My old ld luftkin the numbers are hard to read, tried stanley fat max while nice the auto lock at times jams, the blade is starting to break from pulling it out and retracting.
    One fault on the night eyes it is dark cover colored lay it down as I did building a deck blends in with the soil. Other than that the best tape measure hands down.
    Being self employed need quality and durability, the night eyes is all that.

  • @bearded_electrician
    @bearded_electrician 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    That crescent brand tape is nice, but the blade is paper thin and brakes very easily.
    I bought one when the first came out a few years ago (when Lowe's stopped carrying the fatmax tapes). Used it for all of about 10 minutes and then gave it to my helper. He used it for the rest of the day and then I never saw it again, (I assume he retired it to a home use tape) I didn't care enough to ask what happened to it.

    Yeah, but... your choice in tapes is obviously for building-scale projects. That's all well and good and your reasoning is well explained but I've been looking for an ideal metric-only woodshop-use tape to be carried in my front pants pocket. Years ago a metal case 12' Stanley with the belt clip removed was first choice and I kept 3 or 4 good ones scattered around plus another at the house and in the truck. Anyone with similar needs ought to take a look at the more expensive of the Hultafors brand 3 meter (roughly 10') tape. Hultafors is a Swedish company and their tools seem to be brought to the US by a Brit outfit. They're expensive, about $30 a pop, but if you're going to work with them every working day for the rest of your life, what does it matter?

    I’m interested to see a review of the nite eye after daily use. I only ever see people talking about them while showing off a brand new tape measure. That’s fine, but I’m curious about how long they last. If anyone knows, please leave a comment! Thanks

      I have been using all my lufkins daily and I really like them. We have broken any of them, a few have some dented up tapes but this certainly aren’t unusable

  • @TheDurtyFrank

    You're supposed to put the nail in the hole and then use the end of the tape for a pen pencil or marker

  • @0ggi
    @0ggi 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    What about the numbers from 1-30mm (metric version) on the markers not being visible due to the mechanism on the end? You're simply left counting lines.

    I have to say the Lufkin is cool but the tape itself sucks. I returned the first one. The tape was bent up. They replaced it and after a few uses its all dented up and won't slide out strait. So all though it's tough on the outside the tape part sucks bad. Just too thin to handle the wood shop. Back to the Stanley.

    I see lots of good reviews on TH-cam for Lufkin tapes from reviewers. Yet when I look at reviews across the web from people who are paying for Lufkin tapes, the reviews are much more 'average' and mixed. What goes on?

    • @TheDurbinCompound
      @TheDurbinCompound  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well I buy all of my stuff for the channel and I do love the Lufkin tapes. They are my favorite among every single brand. I own pretty much every single tape on the market. Milwaukee second place. Stanley FatMax third place

  • @michaeljmccurdy9449
    @michaeljmccurdy9449 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    sorry but I had to give a thumbs down because you didn't cover the one issue I was concerned with; how long before each tape gets floppy. Maybe it would've taken too long to get that information but that's what I'm interested in. I'm tired of buying tapes and have them go flacid within a relatively short period of time. I need the tape to stand out 14' feet or so, with rigidity for a long time....maybe I ask too much....but I wear them out quickly and hope that there's one that will last. Right now, I'm using the Milwuakee 25' Wide Blade but it's my second one; I wore the first one out (a 16') pretty fast.

    Dont buy Lufkun Nite Eye... Their blade is pure garbage, gets way too many kinks, and creases. Belt clip is stupidly placed inside hight friction gummy ring. It also starts to struggle to retract the more you extend it. I really wanted it to work, because its really cool looking tape, but I would not recommend it.
