when I render the video in davinchi for final cut x for some reason it doesn't write down as xml and gives me individual clips as quick time please help because it didn't do that before of all videos I've done before
THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH I came from a premiere pro background (ouch) where I used to cry going into resolve and not even back.... Here your explanations are spot on
Very useful. While doing so I have problem with Sony Alpha DSLr footage (.mov) not coming/ linking to DR. Mavic n GoPro footage no issue. Any specific reason /setting Serge?
2:54 So... I click Ok and Davinci doesn't find any of the linked videos. What's going on? I try to relink and guide it to the folder, but it just can't import the clips. The timeline shows all the clip names and placement, but can't compute the files.
This is awesome Serge. Thank you. As I start to get deeper with my color, I'll definitely need to start learning DaVinci. And, I am excited to learn it.
This round tripping doesn’t work with Sony files : I use a Sony a6400 and even I succeed after many search to use them ( by retiming each sequence at 00:00:00:00 ) when I reimport it on fcpx no color grading is kept ... hope you had this problem and solved it and if it does do you know how to succeed ? Thanks 🙏 by advance and bravo for your work I always follow
Hi Serge! I have followed step by step as you show in this video, but after finishing Render in DaVinci Resolve I cannot find the XML file on the iMac. I only find colorgraded files. What has gone wrong here, do you think?
Question: So I followed these steps, but while importing the XML into final cut (After color grading in Davinci), a menu popped up saying "Your XML was imported with the following warnings", and none of the color graded work is showing up. Did I skip a step by accident?
It doesn't work for me, all my clips appear "not found", when I do the clips attributes thing to fix that it works but especially for the slow mo shot, they appear like "not found". So I can't color grade my project if the 2_3 slow mo shot can't be color graded to
i always get this error message: "the clip was not found, Do you want to select another folder to search?" and davinci can't find it, any idea why? i have the media on an external ssd but added this ssd already under preferences .. also the problem persists, when i have the media on the macbook itself
If u used certain fcpx features (ex. stabilization), when importing into DR does it just ignore/remove stabilization? Or does it carry over to the DR’s stabilization values? Or just it just conflict?
what bothers me is before when i xml my video to 4k and editing them in final cut and render and when i look at the info. For some reason it doesn't render the same quality anymore like 4k and instead 1080p60fps. The first time it happen i was like maybe it was my fault and now again as i am recently uploading another video and i know my eyes i did render xml in 4k in davinci for final cut and again. when finishing my finishing touches in final and now rendering the video again only up to 1080p60fps. This never happen to me before and i feel bum out not uploading my gameplays in 4k like before what is happening?
Hiii I have done everything like the same but my footages are unlinked when I am importing that XML project file to davinci resolve... 16 How to fix that... How can I linked all my footage...
Hello, unfortunately I did not manage to import, that is, he writes to me: 103 of 103 clips were not yet found. do you want select another to search? can someone help me ? Is it because I'm working on the project on an external hard drive?
Thanks for nice straight to the point video but one question In case client feedback received how the whole workflow will work to incorporate feedback .. is the project files are linked or can be synced between both the software or have to do it from start again? I know the other work around is share the rough draft with the client to receive feedback and then do the color grading
Hey Man ! I need to do it but to nother computer. At the start you say that we need to copy the source files and re link the medias but how should I do that ? Thank you !
Can you do a video of how to transfer the source media to another external (and possibly another computer) using this method? (XMLs from FCPX to DaVinci & back to FCPX) Thank You!
Hi Serge. Is it possible to transfer all the files that I saved in a FCPX Library (so within the library itself) to Davinci? What is the best way to do it?
Good video thanks - question: I want to do a final sound mix using Final Cut Pro. Does the Davinci XML file contain my audio clips and once imported into FP, can they be mixed? thanks
Can you export the files from FCPX to resolve while they are in proxy mode? And then back to FCPX? Exporting full size files with the color grade from FCPX?
Shouldn't this also work for Black Magic RAW? I want to shoot with BRAW but Final Cut Pro can't edit BRAW. So initially start with Resolve, color grade then export to Final Cut Pro?
Great tutorial! I have followed step by step but my files say they are missing. When I try relinking, Davinci does not give me options as to where I to find the footage. It only shows one folder. Please help!
I exported FCPX XML into DaVinci Resolve 17 but there is no audio sound. The sound metering bars in Fairlight are moving as if there is sound, but no sound can be heard and nothing is muted. Sound is fine in FCPX. Any ideas what is causing this?
hai guys anyone have problem with xavc s sony footage xml from final cut pro.. i do cutting in final cut pro X then export xml to davinci resolve for colouring .. the ''media offline'' (davinci resolve) .. this problem only from sony footage.. i try do a relink but still not working...... my other GH5 footage have no problem
Found solution! FWIW: here's what worked for me... 1. Create new Resolve project first, and import all the source footage into Resolve (same files that I originally imported into FCPX) 2. Import XML with the two 'automatic' options NOT clicked. (when I first tried with them selected it didn't work) 3. Boom goes the dynamite. A few issues with transitions, but all files reconnected fine.
Really good explanation but i‘ve got a big issues with roundtrip. Export from fcxp to resolve is Fine. Resolution is C4k. Import in resolve also Fine but after importing the two clips into fcpx again, one Clip has the correct Resolution but the other one hat only 720p. How‘s that possible?
I just started to use davinci and im in love with their color grade but it is so damn laggy! I have no lag on fcpx so I might try this to speed up the process. thanks! and if you have any info how to speed up davinci please share
DaVinci Resolve 17 media offline when importing XML from FCPX since the 16 to 17 beta update. Just wondering If this issue is just temporary due to the update.
You need to link davinci resolve to where your rushes are stored if not on your computer's hard drive. I was editing from an external hard drive, so in davinci resolve I went to preferences, media storage, clicked add, and added the hard drive that I was editing from. You then need to load in the xml of your timeline. I hope this helps!
I output to DaVinci after editing in a job that is not 1920x1080. Resolve, there was no problem at this time, but when I returned to final cut pro, I encountered an unexpected value. The movie imported into final cut pro did not resize the information, and the video was reduced. Why? Can you answer me? I am using davinci resolve15 Pro.
Excellent video, very detailed. I followed all the steps in your video using DJI drone files and also Sony A73 video clips. The DJI files showed up in Resolve after exporting the XML file, but all my Sony files could not be found, any clue as to why that is?
Awesome method, only interrogation is : Resolve Renders are taking up a TON of free space. Is there any way to link my final timeline in FCPX not to my Render Files but to my Master Files?
I can get the XML into DaVinci for grading fine, but no matter what settings I try, when I render it for FCP X and then try to import it I get an error message saying "encountered an unexpected value..." and then the imported timeline XML file is visually smaller and has a border around it. It's odd because the QuickTime file that is created from Da Vinci at the same time as the graded XML file is perfect. It has to be an issue in FCP X with the import settings, and is probably something stupidly simple, but any help would be very much appreciated!!
Thanks Serge! Excellent tutorial as always. I was wondering what rendering settings you'd recommend to maximize image quality for an FCPX project filmed on a Sony A7III (Input: HLG BT2020. Output Rec 709) before you color grade in DaVinci. Is it best to choose the highest rendering settings to capture as much info from the full frame sensor, even if it is an 8 bit camera?
awesome, thanks! Two questions: 1. when I make final adjustment to clips in fcpx at the end like lengthening a clip, does the new part still contain the color information from DaVinci Resolve? 2. does this method require twice the amount of free space or does it not because the source files are the same? Thanks in advance!
The rendered files from Resolve will only be as long as each "clip" or "shot "was in Resolve's timeline. Each cut that was color corrected is rendered out as separate clip, and then pieced back together using the instructions in the XML file. As a rule of thumb, color grading should always be the last step in your editing process, otherwise, you're wasting time with unnecessary renders, or having to re-render clips with the new edits. ALWAYS color grade last! If you're short on storage space, time, or both, Davinci Resolve can export your color grade as a LUT. That way, you can skip the render times completely, and not have to deal with the render files between Resolve and FCPX. Simply add the LUTs for each shot onto the appropriate clip, and whee! Hope this helps!
Here's a question I've had for years. You do what you describe, then the client wants changes; cut a clip, add a clip, trim a clip; slip a clip? 'Cause this happens all the time. You think you're locked but the client comes back with requested changes. You make the changes. Now what? Can I go back to Resolve and round trip again without losing the color correction work I've already done the first time? If so, would you be willing to do a tutorial on this? Thanks!
Great video! However I Resolve can't reconnect my footage. Using the original .mp4 AVCHD footage imported to FCPX from Sony a6500. I have successfully edited projects in resolve with footage from same camera. Both FCPX and Resolve are most recent versions. Any thoughts?
Found solution! FWIW: here's what worked for me... 1. Create new Resolve project first, and import all the source footage into Resolve (same files that I originally imported into FCPX) 2. I’m finding it confusing that I have to upload my Raw DnG 2.5 k footage to DaVinci just to render it in the Apple pro res 422HQ to be able to use my FCPX just to start my Director Cut Is there an easier way ? Please help I have a big project coming
Hi Serge, thanks a ton - very helpful and concise! What do you think of DVR? I am about to begin diving deep into an NLE and I can't make up my mind between FCP and DVR. Maybe some thoughts from you? A comparison video?
That was one hell of a straight to the point, no useless crap in between, value video. Thank you sir.
Most straight to the point video ive ever watched. Lord.
Exactly what I needed - no fluff, just straight to the point information. Mahalo from Hawaii!

Serge, you did it again man! No messing. Just good information. Great video!
would love to see a Blackmagic raw round-tripping workflow. I can't get mine to work properly.
I would definitely love a Resolve basics video! I'm dying to learn it and I'm finding it overwhelming.

This was incredibly helpful for a new DR user who came from FCPX and misses his library of animations and templates :)
Thanks Serge. Very educative and simple!

i tried doing this but when i imported the xml to davinci it said it cannot locate the video files

Dude best part of DV is the use of internal GPU and eGPUs at the same time. Long live my 5.1. Together FCPX has its place and DV has its place.
I would definitely like to learn more about other things we could use Davinci resolve for with FCP... What kind of things can we do on timeline edits?
