not going to lie, Iam very new to cameragear and software. By far u are my favourite person to watch when learning new stuff. Keep up the good work. Thanks
Still watching through the video but wanted to mention if you use duration markers and marker keywords it's very similar to fcpx, but takes a lot more clicks. Hoping they improve this.
Thank you for this video. As of today, May 7th, 2024, out of more than 6 videos about "Switching to Davinci Resolve", yours is the BEST. It's because you DEMONSTRATE in details many advantages & disadvantages of each app. For example, Final Cut Pro disadvantages are: For Noise reduction you have to use plug in, it's not built in. Also FCP is rarely updated compared to Davinci. Davinci Resolve disadvantages are: Steep learning curve. It took you 2 - 3 weeks to learn it, etc. Final Cut Pro advantages are: J cut & L cut editing, Keyword organization. Magnetic time line and Trackpad make editing faster and easy. Davinci Resolve advantages are Audio, video track features. Auto track selector. Best color grading capability. Clip features: Move, link clips. Color management. Easier audio editing. Frequent updates. Group features. Masking tools. Noise reduction. Power bins. The Reliability is the same for both apps. NO OTHER TH-camR has made such a DETAILED and WELL DEMONSTRATED comparison.
I've watched a lot videos about this but none of them actually connected with my thoughts except your approach. Showing some comparison on the fly is way more efficient to understand both side. Thank you Roma for the effort!
Been a Premiere Pro editor for 8 years, 1 year of Davinci Resolve, past 4 years been primarily Final Cut. With editing a first ever feature... oh man is FCP STRUGGLING. Seriously making me consider switching back to Davinci. Question though! Since you're on Mac. On PC I would sometimes have glitchy exports on Davinci where certain frames would have a black blocky artifact on them for a sec or two and it was super frustrating. Do you get those at all? I have no idea if it's just exclusively a PC issue or maybe something with the graphics card? My friend just got the same export issue with it.
Yeah, FCP is really behind in terms of features, but it’s still a solid editor. Honestly, I sometimes miss how easy it was to use. However, I do a lot of color grading, and Resolve is just too good for that. About you export issue, I never experienced something like this with my computer. I had a few crashes and some minor lags and glitches, but nothing like you've described..
Sorry in advance if you answer this in the video, but would you mind sharing your render settings? I'm struggling to find a good format for youtube clarity
Just don't use the TH-cam preset in the Deliver page. It sucks and is only meant for ease of use for noobs. Bitrate is king. Upload a video in 4K at 10mbit/s or lower and you can't even be sure, YT will generate a 4K video. +50K is the best. And since YT prefer H. 264 or ProRes or DNxHR or DNxHD for high quality, use at least 80K for H.264. The other formats I mentioned are for professionals, but you can still use them. Just be aware, the files are enormous.
That's not a lot of information. What GPU? What do you mean by initialize? What version of DaVinci Resolve? You need Resolve Studio ($299) to use most GPU acelleration in the software. Any Intel CPU with Quicksync should be fine.
@@Romafedorov I bet that thing is a work horse though. I would love that upgrade. Currently rocking a 16” 2021 M1 Pro with 16GB of ram and running FCP X…but you’re making me want to convert to Davinci
It's really awesome. I love it, especially coming from a small 13" M1 MacBook Pro, and FCP is great overall. But if you're serious about color grading, I highly recommend trying out Davinci. It's just so much better for that than FCP.
It's nearly impossible to compare render output times between different software. At least, you should disable any color grading. DR's color grading is so more advanced and accurate, than PP or FCP, but also more complex for the same reason. And even then you can't really compare. Even when using similar settings, like variable bitrate 80000Mbit/s, the output quality is not the same. To compare quality, you'd need to just render through the NLEs with no grading and use a software like FFMetrics (Windows) to compare the original clips to the rendered ones from each NLE. I don't know if FFMetrics has a Mac version, but there's probably a software, that could do something similar, on Mac.

I still have a lot to learn about Davinci Resolve, but so far I love it!

Thank you for showing some very useful Resolve tools.
I think I learned a lot with you, we are are always with you keep growing ❤
If you want the magnetic timeline in davinci just hold ctrl and shift to swap clips around
It's not a magnetic timeline, but it's a nice workaround..
@@Romafedorov if you have macros you can make a key to toggle it on and off
I using prem pro, and for the longest, deciding if to switch , but your experience helped me making a decision.
for doing faster j and l cut in resolve, hold alt and drag.
Yeah, I know that, but its way more elegant in FCP.

I export in 4K25p, MP4, H264, Quality 80000kb/s. The rest is set to default.

I just bought a windows laptop, where should I start learning video editing from now??
TH-cam is the best place to learn video editing, at least in the beginning.
I did the same thing. Not used to Davinci yet but so far, it's just fun to me than Final Cut.
I love it now!
Is there budget friendly pc you recommend for DR 19? I have intel processor and 16gb ram and GPU fails to initialize

You need Resolve Studio ($299) to use most GPU acelleration in the software. Any Intel CPU with Quicksync should be fine.
And let’s not forget, Davinci runs on iPads with all the features of the desktop version.
This week I purchased resolve studio, so happy to leave final cut. Feel like apple has quietly abandoned FCP. They should rename it to FC.
Welcome aboard!
What MacBook are you using?
16" M3 Max 1TB 64GB RAM
Rich man!@@Romafedorov
Got it with a student discount, which saved me around $300 😉
But, yeah, it’s not cheap…
