    Love the images but maybe 2 stops was a bit over the top !

    • @therealsirrobin
      @therealsirrobin  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I asked the lab to keep the images rather bright but it would be easy to darken them in the scanning process. Portra has a huge latitude and can handle a lot more than 2stops over. 😀
      BTW... You are the winner of the prints. Can you send me a message on Instagram? 👍👍

    the giggling girls shot was my fave. Because they chose to hide their faces, it's actually not that important to have them in focus. Leaves more to the viewer's imagination. Great shots Robin.

    Wow lovely colours !!!! they look like old Kodachrome similar look to N.Y pictures of Joel Meyerowith in the around 1970.
    Best pictures for me the one on the stairs with the couple at the top and the reading guys.

    What's the consensus on where the exposure compensation is happening? In the f-stop, aperture, or shutter speed? Or a combination of two or all?
    Might be why focus is slow or lost on some images?
    As for compact film cameras I use a Nikon 28t and Fujifilm Cardia mini Tiara, but I'm sure that all these are fairly similar in how they execute.
    Always fun and insightful. Really enjoy your series Robin. Cheers from Tokyo.

    I love my Contax T2. The T2 spot focuses in the center, so I see a lot of out focus subjects. The T2 has snap/manual focus, which you can preset a focal distance. That might help for street photography.

    • @akyerit
      @akyerit 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I always thought that could be achieved? Is the focus wheel losses at all? Or does it stay in place ok?

    • @chemical_sunsets
      @chemical_sunsets 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just got a t2 and was reading the manual. Apparently if you are focusing with AF program, when you hold down the shutter halfway it will engage the AF lock. From there you can frame your shot while the AF is locked on your subject. Haven’t been able to try this yet but I hope this helps!

  • @phila3884
    @phila3884 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Here's the T2 hype in a nutshell: It's the size. It's for unplanned, grab on-the-go, all-around shooting when you don't know if you should bring your "serious" camera, but you might want some quality shots.

    • @quasarcreator
      @quasarcreator 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I got a Contax TVS for that exact purpose. It’s a bit more versatile than the T2, and the exp. comp dial is easier to turn and has a tighter focus wheel than the T2 (from what I’ve heard). Mainly, it’s much less expensive than the T2 so I’m not concerned about taking it out and about

    Once again a very entertaining episode. you usually have your camera on the hotshoe of the camera, where was it attached to? as an architect i love the james simon gallery and if i would win i would take the minimalist picture from there.

  • @gobo6844

    Is the shutter lag just the camera focusing? Great video. I do agree with many here in most cases these super expensive point and shoots are no better than Olympus xa, canon, or Nikon af point and shoots. I have a canon and love it except occasional missed focus. Will always prefer full manual but point shoots are really fun and nice for hanging out. I’d like to try a film Ricoh myself.

    I really like the first one, the one with the stairs. Looks super clean and elegant, and also I really like the minimalistic look that it has, with the straight lines of the stairs. It gives me a feeling of peace, because it's geometrical but at the same time the two people at the top of the stairs give it a whole new dimension, and guide the eye of the viewer up towards the sky. But in general I think all pictures are great, it was pretty hard to choose! Portra 400 is one of my fav along with Ektar 100, and I think giving the weather it was a great choice to overexpose by 2 stops, it gives a nice kick to the colors. Great job overall!

  • @bernardchampeau225
    @bernardchampeau225 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes, the shutter lag is pretty surprising at first when you shoot with the T2, but it seems very consistant, at least on my T2, so you have to anticipate just a little bit and hope for a happy result. It is not a kind of camera where you can carefully compose your picture, meter and shoot, it is an instictive camera with automatic features and a very good lens to help you capture great pictures. My favorite from your prints is the minimalistic stairs. It is good to have you back on the channel, cheers !

    In general the more something gets hyped up the higher the risk of one's expectations and getting disappointed!
    Also the whole price thing is just silly, for example a Olympus mju plastic compact camera becomes at some point not worth the asking price!
    I can't remember if I have shot new Portra 400 so I don't have much to say about it!
    My favourite is the marble(?) stairs photo where the person/s take less space and the lines helps the composition!
    Keep up the good work!

    Greetings from Hong Kong. I like the one taken on the white stairs. This one shows the image quality of T2 which is very sharp with good contrast, and the details are so fine. I think you may make a even larger print up to 16x20 big size without problem. Originally I believe it is better to take this photo in B&W film. But I am wrong when I suddenly discover that the beautiful skin tone of the two tiny subjects pops up there. Finally, I found that you have burned the two patches of strong sunlight near the middle of the stairs, a successful post editing work which is amazing. I really enjoy the video. Keep shooting guy!

    I like all the photos, overexposed Portra is ok, but flare resistance of the Contax isn't. In addition to that, shutter lag and noisiness of film winding, I would not take the T2 for street photography....

    The Contax T2 may be a nice camera but in no way is it worth what it is fetching for. I have a Yashica T3 and an Olympus Mju II and both of these perform the same if not better than the image quality that is coming out of the Contax T2 at a fraction of the cost.

      Well most all of the contax t and g series tend to have a special pop in the pictures. I didn't understand it until I got a G1. And now I totally get it. None of my other cameras have that pop. Hard to explain but its true

    Beautiful photos! This is my personal opinion: there are a few images that perhaps don't need to be overexposed, and the colors captured may be more vibrant and intense. I liked the Contax T2, but it was too expensive, so I opted for the zoomable Contax TVS.

  • @MrFiJy
    @MrFiJy 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think the T2 is an overpriced iconic camera that could be easily replaced with and Olympus mju or Nikon L35AF and many others. I liked the photo with the couple in the left corner. The warm sun gives that @tender@ vibes.

    Definitely not a good idea to overexpose that film by two stops. Even Kodak Gold 200 provide better results. The shutter delay of the cam would be a show stopper for me. I don’t understand the hype about the G2
